This is from a post on another site regarding the fate of Eilistraee since I believe she is still listed in the dieties of Faerun:

"okay, I talked to a friend that -has- the book, and from what they tell me (and I'm still gonna read the book), in the Epilogue, Eilistraee -doesn't- necessarily die. She allows Lloth to take her Mother piece and feigns death, and then Lloth moves to take another piece that is actually Eilistraee in disguise. Before Lloth can lay claim to all of the Drow, though, Corellon steps in and takes Eilistraee's place, turning all of her pieces from Drow black to a brown tone, and the only real change to Eilistraee's realm was that the moon became new rather than a full or half moon.

So, dead, huh? I think not

That would explain why I found Eilistraee's name on a list of confirmed living deities. It seems likely to me that the Mother piece that was lost was infact Qilue. We won't know until July if she is alive or not.

Also I wouldn't put it past wizards to use this as a stunt for 4th Ed. "

No one really assumed she was dead. In fact, it is widespread that, after the death of her brother Vhaeraun, her church and possibly herself have made a drastically change... but nothing about defunction.

Uh ... that was another headline spoiler blunder!

Please remove the topic of this thread as there are lots of people out there who have not even had a look at Ascendency of the Last, not to mention know what is going to happen.

Re Eilistraee ... I haven't yet read the book, but it could well be that she becomes some sort of heroine/demigoddess/XYZ figure under the wings of Corellon.

No ... that's not it, for the spoiler is still in the headline! ;) Something like:

Spoilers - "On Eilistraee's fate"

... is the what is needed. You already tell everyone that she might or might not be gone in the topic's header - which is causing bother.

-Can you cite the location of the list of officially confirmed deities to make it into the 4e Forgotten Realms?

-Oh, what, the background of the boards themselves? Heh, I thought you were talking about the general outlook of everyone here. You can adjust the background of the boards with that little bar at the bottom left, you know. That's temporary, and if you go into your personal preferences, you can make that permanent.

Dunno, for a time it was very kiddie like, or as one of my friends once put it (comparing Window XP to Win98): "Welcome to the world of the 13-year olds!" All was just strangely coloured and large and cudly and ... Lolth tlu malla, it is gone again!

My Lady Penitent III book will be on my desk shortly, so I can give an "expert's analysis" on the matter.

-Yes, the Boards default background (was white and blue; very Windows-like) was erased because for whatever reason, it was causing those glitches a few weeks ago. Now, the Gleemax default is the new default. It is quite "loud", yes. "Obnoxious", even.

Although it would be great if i missunderstood the ending, but Eilistraee doesn't grant spells anymore and Corellon's servants fetching Cavatina's soul from the Fugue Plain confirm Eilistraee's death.
The moon in the realm was eclipsed because Eilistraee was hiding. Afterwards Qilue and her goddess are cut down by Hallistra who is tricked (by Lloth) into believing that it's actually Lloth she ist killing.
The realm doesn't vanish afterwards because Corellon probably pulled it into his realm.

I only hope that there will at least be some silver haired 'dark elves' in FR $ed in honor to Eilistraee (and the fact, that I don't want to play a black-haired darkelf...I can live with the brown skin, but the hair should have become silver-colored...).

Best wishes

It might be interesting to see Eilistraee as a deity attached to Selune, imo. Then again, it may be because I like Selune more than Corellon ;)

In any case, you wonder why allied deities, and I speak of very allied deities here (Selûne, Eilistraee, Sehanine) do not step in and cater/mascerade for the worshippers/clergy of a "fallen" deity. Obviously, this would go against the reduction policy currently applied by the designers, but it would be the far more logical approach.

IIRC Cyric is allowed to do something like that, since it fits into his portfolio, I am not shure if AO would allow it.

Honestly speaking, Ao would have no influence whatsoever. Those priests will know about their deity's affiliations and if they'd turn to ... say Selûne instead, I'd doubt Ao happens by and says: No-No! Or if a priest of Sehanine happens by in a former Eilistraeen camp and asks what's happening and starts to evangelize, Ao won't stop Sehanine from answering that call. If he actually has the power to do so. I mean, he does not intervene if say a lilitu or brachina snatches clerics from a deity's faith to serve one of the Abyssal Lords or Archdevils instead.

I don't mind novels giving background story. I do mind if said novels create canon and lore and leave you "in the open" for the better part of 6 real time years. And if that canon is not sufficient or satisfying (all those question marks) or happens to conflict with previous / other sources, well well. AND if it all is just done because of something that has not exactly a direct impact on the setting as such, i.e. 4E and the enforced Spellplague, well, well, well ...

Yep, switching to dark hair...imagine all of them marked as being visibly different in the midst of their drow brethren. Glad most were close enough to an exit.

Spoiler I guess (highlight if you must):

Looks like Eilistraee planned it out well in advance and had her father step right in. Now, mind you, it makes no sense (to me) why Eilistraee didn't manifest back out of Qilue's body and thus...oh well, they had to make it a clean sweep of wiping out the bunch.

Spoiler done.

Now...I recall something in the book about the redemption being finished. Umm, really? Wouldn't there be more of an incentive to develop or rediscover the ritual for purging Wendonai's taint from other drow, 'redeeming' even more in decades and centuries to come? WotC has been too hasty in doing this. Borrowing a bit from 4e I could've imagined:

Corellon--'Good' (Why they chose 'unaligned' for Corellon in 4e is...unfathomable)
Sehahine--'unaligned' (The more 'fey' middle ground)
Eilistraee--'unaligned' (also more 'fey', the adopted daughter of Sehahine)
Lolth--Chaotic Evil

And if I may bring it up...Remember Liriel from the Starlight & Shdows series? In previous editions she was a cleric/fighter/wizard of Lolth, then Eilistraee...and finally Mystra. You gotta know she'd be hating the changes wrought by 4e FR. (I like the character but I still see some dark humor there.)

Yeah, there's going to be a lot of things that we need to wait for the FRCS to clarify. I'm planning on playing Living FR, but i don't want to get too attached to creating characters only to find out that I did something that the FRCS (and the LFRCS) won't allow.

-I was talking to someone about this. I was telling her how, in my opinion, the WotSQ series could have easily been condensed into a trilogy. There seemed to be so much stuff in it that was just extraneous. Valas being captured by the Aboleth, for instance. We didn't learn anything particularly interesting, it wasn't integral to the story, it didn't play into the storyline at a further point...Filler.

If I remember correctly, the late drow wizard used a polymorph spell to save Valas from suffocation. Not that there is some time restriction on such actions ... or an unlucky greater dispel magic might undo this. But maybe my memory deceives me here ...

(Managed a chapter of AotL now and instantly wondered how that Sting of Lolth lass was able to talk High Drow and hoping that the wild elf prisoner would understand her. As High Drow is a language nigh exclusively used by priestesses and even late Pharaun did not speak it ... ach well, just nitpicking. BTW, Sting of Lolth refers to MM IV / DotUD and a drow "ninja". Lolth wept.)

-Either way...The entire scene with the Aboleth was completely superfluous. Don't add it into the book, and it changes nothing in the overall story. Do enough of that (and there was a lot of that), and it turns that six part series into a trilogy.

Well, according to Elaine Cunningham, Liriel was never actually a cleric of Eilistraee, only a lay worshiper.
