State of Torm in 5E?

Hi fellow players,

my first D&D 5E PC is most likely going to be an Acolyte of Torm (background). However, I didn't follow the history of the realms too closely since AD&D 2nd (shortly after the Time of Troubles). It would be greatly appreciated if someone here could give me a quick rundown on the God's current status and it's history between the Time of Troubles and now.

Best regards,

Proletheus

Torms still here.  Here is the current standings for Torm in the Forgotten realms. http://forgottenrealms.wikia.com/wiki/Torm

He's definitely still around. With the deaths of both Tyr and Helm, he became an even bigger deal.

He assumed Tyr's portfolios and most of his worshipers, becoming a Greater god and ruler of Celestia. Also, as far as deities go, he alone shouldered the "guardian/sentinel" role he'd sort of shared with Helm.

Helm has returned, I believe (Yay!). We don't know if Tyr will return, as well. Personally, I think we'd be fine with Torm continuing as top dog of Celestia, but we'll see how the Sundering plays out amongst the gods living and dead.

I really hope that Torm stays as head of Celestia and top dog in the Triad. Tyr being back is fine, but I'd prefer him to play a role more along the lines of Jergal. The older god who's passed the torch and serves as aid and mentor to the younger god who's taken the reigns.

I think you will find the Triad possibly set up again. Tyr at the apex, Torm below and both linking up with Ilmater

That and Torm's elevation was one of the few positive changes in the 4E Realms. Back in the day the majority of the posters that I saw at the time were happy with the change, with only a handful of exceptions. Torm's the more active god, so it'd be nice if he remained the Greater God leading the Triad while Tyr, who's always been more aloof and standoffish, attended to the task of administering justice in the Realms.

Though it won't make a difference to my game (Torm is staying top dog and there is nothing Tyr can do about it), I wouldn't be surprised if the devs decide to make Tyr regain his throne and have Torm just shrug his shoulders and accept it out of "loyalty and honor". My inner pessimist keeps suggesting that they might go overboard when it comes to bringing back the old gods. That being said, I will be tickled pink if they reintroduce Tyr as a minor god in a mentor/advisor role; that would be much more satisfying.

I too like Torm better as the head of this group of gods.

To me Torm has always seemed more a follower than a leader, wheras Tyr was the just one, the one that had to make the decisions at the end of the day. Of course back then Tyr also had a LOT more followers than Torm

I see the Triad as a more of a Triumvirate.   A Triumvirate of equals.  Tyr is about Justice, Ilmatar is about Redemption, and Torm is about Honor and Virtue.  All three go in hand in hand.
