| #1centralscrutinizerJul 14, 2008 15:17:14 | Are the FR Gods and the main D+D gods now identical? I.e. isn't the game returning to more of a great wheel organization where all worlds share the same creation story? So could you list for me the 'Core' gods and who they officially are in the FR? |
| #2rauricJul 14, 2008 15:23:50 | They are not the same. The Bane in core is not the same as the Bane in FR. The book in August will explain it all. |
| #3markustay63Jul 14, 2008 15:33:16 | However, RB has mentioned some consolidation, and I feel confident in saying that we can expect at least a few of FR's gods to turn out to be core gods in 'disguise'. The Raven Queen is definately in - I would be willing to make a cash wager on that (if I had any cash). :P |
| #4centralscrutinizerJul 14, 2008 15:42:06 | Could one of you all run down a quick list of the core gods and their alignment? |
| #5lord_karsusJul 14, 2008 18:03:05 | -The Forgotten Realms deities and the "Core" deities will still be separate, as it always was. The "Core" deities can be found in the Player's Handbook. The deities of the Forgotten Realms can be found in Faiths & Pantheons, or (alternatively), in more detail in the 2e books Faiths & Avatars, Powers & Pantheons, and Demihuman Deities. As for the changes to the "Faerûnian Pantheon", we're going to have to wait until the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide is published to know for sure. There's going to be a lot of change- we know that it's been condensed from circa 100 to about 30. So, a lot of deities are going to be either (A) dying; (B) turning out as never having existed to begin with or; (C) turning into 'exarchs' (saints) of other deities. |
| #6centralscrutinizerJul 29, 2008 17:01:29 | Folks, so the dragon article (365) revealed that Tyr is dead too, does this mean tha Aumantor is now LG? |
| #7lord_karsusJul 29, 2008 17:05:54 | Folks, so the dragon article (365) revealed that Tyr is dead too, does this mean tha Aumantor is now LG? -No. |
| #8GreenKnightJul 29, 2008 17:10:57 | One thing has nothing to do with the other thing. As for the core gods, they're not Faerunian gods. There'll be some overlap, of course (there always has been overlap. Between Corellon, Sehanine, Lolth, Moradin, Bahamut, Tiamat, etc), but they won't be identical. The Raven Queen is definately in - I would be willing to make a cash wager on that (if I had any cash). Any particular reason why you think that? Because I haven't seen anything to indicate that's the case. Especially since we know Kelemvor's still up and around. But hey, if you're in a betting mood, I'm willing to put $20 on it. ;) |
| #9centralscrutinizerJul 29, 2008 17:11:05 | No, is not a very descriptive answer, but how does Tyr die by the way? |
| #10GreenKnightJul 29, 2008 17:12:11 | No, is not a very descriptive answer, but how does Tyr die by the way? Your guess is as good as ours. That snippet is pretty much all there is on the subject. |
| #11lord_karsusJul 29, 2008 17:13:40 | No, is not a very descriptive answer... -But, it answered the question. There's no reason to believe that Tyr's death is going to make the sun deity LG. The two are not connected in any way. ...but how does Tyr die by the way? -We don't know, last time I checked. It's just mentioned that he died sometime in between now and 1479 DR. |
| #12centralscrutinizerJul 29, 2008 17:19:53 | Actually there is a connection, since the new model is to have one major god on each of the axes of alignments, and reduce the lesser gods to the status of servants, the death of Tyr, who is the most powerfull LG god in 3e, creates an opening. An opening that can now be filled by Aumantor as a LG deity. If Tyr were not dead that would pretty much rule out LG as an alignment for Aumantor. P.s. My guess is that Tyr dies trapping Cyric in his Prison. He seeks atonement in this way for his 'temper' tantrum. |
| #13GreenKnightJul 29, 2008 17:23:32 | Actually there is a connection, since the new model is to have one major god on each of the axes of alignments Not really. In fact the opposite, as they've stated that they don't feel the need to create needless symmetry. Just because there's X of something doesn't mean they're should be an equal amount of Y. Although even if that's the case, there's no need for Amaunator to become LG, as Torm is taking Tyr's place. There's also Moradin as a LG god. It's also possible Bahamut may be a Greater God, as well (though I'm guessing Lesser God). |
| #14centralscrutinizerJul 29, 2008 17:25:59 | I thought you just said we don't know who is taking Tyr's place, how do you now know that Torm is his replacement? |
| #15askanipsionJul 29, 2008 17:34:30 | Actually there is a connection, since the new model is to have one major god on each of the axes of alignments, and reduce the lesser gods to the status of servants, the death of Tyr, who is the most powerfull LG god in 3e, creates an opening. I am thinking Bahamut will maybe fill the void of Tyr as it seems both him and Tiamat will have greater exposure. |
| #16GreenKnightJul 29, 2008 17:35:41 | I thought you just said we don't know who is taking Tyr's place, how do you now know that Torm is his replacement? I said we don't know how Tyr died. I didn't say anything about who's taking Tyr's place. And I know because the devs have said so. ![]() |
| #17centralscrutinizerJul 29, 2008 17:44:29 | Oh, gotcha, where did they talk about Torm taking Tyr's place, in the ask Rich thread. I like Torm better anyways, Tyr was always too LN for me. |
| #18lord_karsusJul 29, 2008 17:45:43 | -I like Torm. He's a favorite of mine. He's white and holy good, while Lathander is yellow and warm good. Both awesome. |
