| #1todesherrJun 10, 2008 22:58:01 | if only for lore's sake... Anyone else with me? |
| #2laerekh_jaelreJun 10, 2008 23:12:04 | I'm with you... I'll probably invest in the core 4e books once I fold up my DM screen and pass the honors over to the next player in our group, who is getting very excited about playing 4e btw. But for now I'm so emersed in my current campaign, trying to make the absolute best FR 3.5 campaign I can, knowing full well it could be our last 3.5 campaign ever. My campaign may go on for another full year, and I'm okay with that (so long as the PCs eventually save Mystra!). So it may be awhile before I buy any core 4e books. But I definitely plan on buying the 4th edition FR book as soon as it comes out for the lore, and to see what changed over 100 years. I'll give it a chance, but from all I've heard, it sounds like it's going to be a great read for those nights I feel like crying myself to sleep. |
| #3todesherrJun 10, 2008 23:45:50 | I'm with you... Well said...minus the crying bit. ![]() |
| #4lord_karsusJun 11, 2008 0:25:43 | -Nah, I don't see myself doing that. If anything, I'd buy the 4e Core books, for the rules and such, but not the 4e Forgotten Realms material. I will, at some point, take some time to flip through it at the book store, to acclimate myself to the "new" Forgotten Realms. -The 4e FRCS will probably be more useful to you than the 4e Player's Guide. The 4e FRCS is, from what I see of it, a DM's guide, with an overview of the setting. The 4e Player's Guide will probably be more "mechanical", so if you're not going to be using the 4e rules, there's less usefulness in that one. |
| #5AndrekanJun 11, 2008 1:12:17 | My group had a meeting, viewed promos, discussed changes (4E and FR). All ten of us decided we will wait for all the kinks to be worked out online, browse those books as they come out to determine if all of it is for our group. I've incorperated some 4E game situation into our weekly games still using 3E. They like some of the ideas just sticking with our methods and house rules for awhile. The FR changes brought fury into some eyes of these 19 to 26 year realm fans. I suppose I have enjoyed our weekly conversations before each game of how FR deity struggles might evolve throughout 100 year spell plague. I suppose these guys who have been playing the game for 30 years adventuring and converting with the systems when we feel it is time. We have much invested in 3E(3.5) and are content. It may take 100 years to completely convert them over. Honestly, I have been mixing 4E theories into the present game which they have been involved in since January. I also blended 1E (the 1st DMG) to add more flavor to the game random die chances and descriptions. Fact is we have fun. Once the final products are out they may decide it's time for spell plague... Until then I am going to let the PC's mold their own realm in some demi-plane of 3E FR. Not sure they'll ever see those famous NPC's anyway other than in their background info or some memory of something they can't quiet recall? :D |
| #6jimmyjimjam01Jun 11, 2008 2:08:03 | if only for lore's sake... Nope. Id only get the 4E realms if i saw it at a garage sale. |
| #7fabius_maximusJun 11, 2008 6:51:16 | Yep, I'm thinking about it, too. The Core Rules are pretty hard to swallow for me, but the changes in the Realms seem to be quite interesting. |
| #8todesherrJun 11, 2008 8:27:39 | I can't wait to read the Cosmology section and the Pantheon section! |
| #9merrikcaleJun 11, 2008 8:39:51 | if only for lore's sake... no |
| #10alediranJun 11, 2008 8:57:54 | I'll only read it in my FLGS. |
| #11rinonalyrna_fathomlinJun 11, 2008 19:13:07 | if only for lore's sake... Not really, I'm doing the opposite.;) If I decide to buy the 4E Realms sourcebooks, I will buy them second-hand only. |
| #12lord_karsusJun 12, 2008 15:03:14 | -That's what I am going to start doing with those 3e books I don't have. Lots of discounts there... |
| #13alediranJun 12, 2008 15:05:24 | -That's what I am going to start doing with those 3e books I don't have. Lots of discounts there... You should take this unique oportunity because 3rd edition books (even used) aren't going to be as available as 2nd when 3rd came, in Argentina just one person is going to play 4th edition, the rest are going to keep playing 3rd edition or going Pathfinder (I'm spreading the love). |
| #14suin_bahhar_02Jun 12, 2008 16:40:22 | Im holding out on buying the 4E core books untill I can suitably convert all fantasy concepts. And I dont have the spare cash at the moment, but might pick up the DMG next week. The FRCG I'm defeniately interested in if only for the maps and lore alone. |
| #15lord_karsusJun 12, 2008 17:25:45 | The FRCG I'm defeniately interested in if only for the maps and lore alone. -Maybe you can save money, and try to convince MT to draw up those maps...Though, I don't imagine how he'd draw little floating islands...:P |
| #16merrikcaleJun 13, 2008 17:47:06 | The FRCG I'm defeniately interested in if only for the maps and lore alone. But will the maps be useful? |
| #17todesherrJun 14, 2008 1:29:28 | But will the maps be useful? You don't like any of the changes do you? |
| #18merrikcaleJun 14, 2008 7:23:44 | You don't like any of the changes do you? Some I am abivalent about, others I hate |
| #19suin_bahhar_02Jun 14, 2008 8:55:39 | The maps with inclusion of the major changes will make an interesting tool for future realms DM's. I think the 15th century Realms will be a breath of fresh air. Including the fantastic elements who can have a real positive influence on DM's if they manage to link them properly into their surroundings. I think there will be many areas that with some DM creativity can make great exploration campaigns. And mostly I'd like to peek at the area's and spot any geographical and morphological inconsistancies (or try to come up with new proper theories for including those). I'm a geographer by heart so my campaign almost always start by looking at maps and thinking on what sparks my mind as nice adventuring locations. |
| #20lowtechJun 14, 2008 15:24:34 | if only for lore's sake... Hell, no. I might eventually buy it second-hand out morbid curiosity, but WotC is not getting anymore of my money, period. Also, I hate the new cosmology as much as I hate the jumped up timeline and super-imposed moon countries. |
| #21lord_karsusJun 14, 2008 15:29:31 | Hell, no. I might eventually buy it second-hand out morbid curiosity, but WotC is not getting anymore of my money, period. Also, I hate the new cosmology as much as I hate the jumped up timeline and super-imposed moon countries. -The settlement on Selûne (the moon) of "Selûnians" has been there since 2e. |
| #22lowtechJun 14, 2008 16:11:14 | -The settlement on Selûne (the moon) of "Selûnians" has been there since 2e. It was also never switched around with some of my favorite countries on Faerun; I wouldn't have cared so much if those countries had stayed on the moon, perhaps connected to faerun through portals and the extremely rare spelljammer. |
| #23lord_karsusJun 14, 2008 17:17:13 | It was also never switched around with some of my favorite countries on Faerun; I wouldn't have cared so much if those countries had stayed on the moon, perhaps connected to faerun through portals and the extremely rare spelljammer. -As far as I know, the settlement(s) on Selûne are still on Selûne. The illusion on the face of the moon has faded, and the settlement(s) can be seen from Abeir-Toril. -The settlements that replaced portions of Unther, Chessenta, all of Maztica, and a few other places are from "Abeir", not Selûne. |
| #24merrikcaleJun 15, 2008 22:06:29 | -As far as I know, the settlement(s) on Selûne are still on Selûne. The illusion on the face of the moon has faded, and the settlement(s) can be seen from Abeir-Toril. I believe you are correct. This hasn't been addressed in a long time |
| #25lord_karsusJun 15, 2008 22:08:22 | I believe you are correct. This hasn't been addressed in a long time -There was that one Countdown to the Realms article (I believe) that mentioned it, but other than that... |
| #26merrikcaleJun 15, 2008 22:33:51 | -There was that one Countdown to the Realms article (I believe) that mentioned it, but other than that... I don't recall that being mentioned but you may very well be right |
| #27lord_karsusJun 15, 2008 22:38:17 | I don't recall that being mentioned but you may very well be right -It's been "in the discussion" concerning 4e because it was mentioned somewhere. |
| #28merrikcaleJun 16, 2008 13:49:45 | -It's been "in the discussion" concerning 4e because it was mentioned somewhere. well, you better find it |

| #30lord_karsusJun 16, 2008 21:37:39 | Don't you mean cartographer? -At least he's not a Geomancer. |
| #31suin_bahhar_02Jun 17, 2008 12:00:07 | No, I have a bachelor in environtmental geography. But yes, in a month I'm training to learn CAD, so cartography might not be far off for me. And geomancy is but one aspect of my multiplanar power. |
| #32lord_karsusJun 17, 2008 14:49:30 | -Great, so he is a Geomancer, then... |
| #33ody_saraph_of_karsusJun 17, 2008 14:51:13 | The Geomancers looked AWEsome in Final Fantasy Tactics...just saying.... |
| #34lord_karsusJun 17, 2008 14:53:01 | -They were alright. Their abilities, you need to spend a lot of points for maximum versatility, they have decent range and side effects, but aren't that powerful. |
| #35ody_saraph_of_karsusJun 17, 2008 14:57:32 | That's true. they were cheap on points but they were so many.... |
| #36lord_karsusJun 17, 2008 15:00:05 | -Yeah. You really needed to get a bunch to be effective, over the course of a random battle. It would suck to not have the desert skill in a battle in a desert. ;) |
| #37ody_saraph_of_karsusJun 17, 2008 15:11:21 | Well, if keept track of it it wasn't such a problem...you now what? Now I have the total urge to buy that game (ebay's gonna be the end of me...) ...Build a PrC for it.... I can totally see it now, using incarnum.... |
| #38lord_karsusJun 17, 2008 15:17:23 | Well, if keept track of it it wasn't such a problem...you now what? Now I have the total urge to buy that game (ebay's gonna be the end of me...) -I don't remember when, but I was at Toys R Us once, and saw they were selling FFT for $9.99, for whatever reason. I bought two, in addition to the one I already had. :D
-There already is a Geomancer PrC...Complete Warrior? Complete Divine? One of those. |
| #39ody_saraph_of_karsusJun 17, 2008 15:19:38 | That one SUCKS!!!![]() |
| #40lord_karsusJun 17, 2008 15:21:06 | -It does, yeah. It's like five pages of nonsense. |
| #41ody_saraph_of_karsusJun 17, 2008 15:24:39 | I remember A thread in the D&D general about "the worst classes" and th CW samurai nad the geomancers were the top two |
| #42suin_bahhar_02Jun 17, 2008 16:40:54 | That geomancer should be forgotten (turning into a halfrhino? ![]() what where they smoking?). Geomancy is just a type of wizardry (some say a brainy druidic tradition) tied to the element of earth, crystal and stone, capable of powerful electromagnetic and terramorphic powers. Therefore I am more powerful in the correct locations (those areas where "leylines" of magic flow into a node). Whit elaborate rituals leylines can be diverted, combined and their power channeled into powerfull magic stones. |
| #43storm_silverhandJun 17, 2008 17:55:36 | Heya,Geomancy is just a type of wizardry (some say a brainy druidic tradition) tied to the element of earth, crystal and stone, capable of powerful electromagnetic and terramorphic powers. Whit elaborate rituals leylines can be diverted, combined and their power channeled into powerfull magic stones. That sounds strangely like one of the latest tidbits released about Wrath of the Lich King expansion for World of Warcraft. Some powerful dragon of magic (Malygos of the Blue Dragonflight) has got a bit ticked off with what he sees as the abuse of magic by the mortal races, and so has started to move leylines around and shunting arcane power into the Twisting Nether... (Malygos will be a raid boss, so he will be killed on a regular basis.) But that's really off topic here. :P ObOT: I'm the opposite to you, Todesherr - I'll be buying the 4e core books, but not 4e FR sources. I told Ed I'd at least flick through the book(s) in the shop, but I'm even hesitant to do that now in light of the death of Eilistraee. Talk about them hitting all my favorites with a hammer. ![]() |
| #44merrikcaleJun 17, 2008 18:38:02 | That geomancer should be forgotten (turning into a halfrhino? exactly, that CW class was horrible. absolutely horrible.... though halfrhinos could be cool ![]() |
