Now, I adress the communauty with a suggestion that was running in my head for a while... For the ones who are interested in the soon to come books (or at least 4th ed as a whole), why not pounder and organise a 'task force' project to adapt missing contents to this edition, and perhaps also homebrew things?

Something in the like of Elves of Faerun by example.

Sounds like an excellent idea.

That ought to help us jumpstart this forum and make it immediately useful to anyone who drops by for a visit.

My next CK article will be cross-edition compatible, if that is any help. Unfortunately, I can't provide mechanics, because that would violate the 'no double edition' clause in the GSL.

Methink it could be pinned here, or the other section... The Elves of Faerun thing was done that way.

Agreed.

Now to the question of structure and format.

I'd look at that, the stickied Compendiums of Races, Classes and Monsters topics too.

Maybe something like...

-Base mechanics if there is

-Races

-Classes

-Powers? Rituals? Feats?

-Monsters

-Gods? Religion things?

-Miscelany

Orders and organisation as see fit.

good deal.

one thing we need to try, lets not make 20+ elven races.... lets decide weather they are high elves (eladrin), or green elves (elf), and build backgrounds based on moon elf, sun elf... etc then we can move to background specific feats. some would need their own, like the fey'ri

Jul 26, 2008 18:27:39
ok heres my shot at it

There are many races of men, and it is important to note the difference between an individual's background and an individual's heritage. While a person may be from Waterdeep (background), he could be of Netherese decent. It is my thought that these different heritage's should instill certain options, thought I'm not going to attempt to invent said options here, I'm simply going to list the possible heritages.

the ones I can think of (I will edit this post)
  • Netherese
  • Jhaamdathian
  • Calim
  • Mulhorandi

I know I didn't get these tenses correct, so feel free to correct me and help me get more down.

Yes... the original concept for the 10th 'special Edition' was cancelled, and for awhile we didn't think it was going to continue, but VERY recently we got some impetus to release the next one.

I think they're just waiting on me. :embarrass

And perhaps Brian...

.... so do we need a new 'publisher' for 4e custom realms info(mechanics)?

As far as I know, it one or the other, NOT both. That means you can create any fluff you want (as long as you don't try to make money off it), but the mechanics can ONLY be OGL or 4e. Once you go 4e, you can't 'go back'.

At least, if you sign the agreement, and thus far there isn't one for fansites, so this is all theoretical until that comes to pass.

However, THIS is the WotC site, and they certainly aren't going to sue themselve LOL, so I'm sure we can post whatever conversions we want right here, because EVERYTHING posted on this site becomes their property (just read the COC and terms of use).

So in other words, don't listen to me, and just go ahead and continue with what you were doing. :embarrass

And once I know the 4e rules a little better, I may even be able to help... (but don't tell my friends) ;)

whats a good backup name for a bastion of faerun knowledge (that's not candlekeep), if it comes down to it I'd host a new site, and thus it'd be a new publisher.

The Herald's Holdfast?
Said to be a storehouse of knowledge equal to or even greater than the Vault of Sages in Silverymoon, the library contains a bewildering number of books, tomes, scrolls, stone tablets, all shelved or piled high on numerous tables. Almost all these sources of information pertain to the history or genealogy of the races to which the chambers are dedicated.

For a few reasons, I'd rather all have that in here around, than an offside web.

As for a more flowery name... well... it's cliché, but maybe simply the Library, with something added? The Salvaged Library, to go with the Spellplagues and all the general rough time that came?

The Unearthed Library? :D

The Forgotten Sepulchre? (cliche', and yet...)

The Library of Perpustakaan?

What? You never heard of it? Its the only library that contains more ancient history then the 'big four' combined. :D

Candlekeep is one, and the other three being the Master's Library in the Earthfast mountains, the Library of Curna in the Curna Mountains, and the Great Library of Shou Lung. :D

Sorry... I should have checked my Grognardise at the door. :P

The point is to do it here, where it matters the most. This is how we build the community on these forums and benefit the most from our contributions to everyone else.

Nothing against the FR Vault, but this place is simply more important.

Gotta say I really like the idea of calling it the Herald's Holdfast.

10-4 on that.

Now let's focus more on a breakdown of what we want to do.

I'd like to add stuff about Cormyr, specifically related to using H1: Keep on the Shadowfell in the Realms, but filling out more lore details for the adventure and giving it a stronger Realms-flavor without bogging it down in too many detail.s

What do y'all think?

I think this Task Force is a great idea, there are enough great lore experts on these boards and well I think it would be worthwile to enhance the FRCG writeups like MarkusTay63 did his awesome maps.

-You misunderstand. I said, specifically: The Seeming Lack of "Built-Upon" Lore. As in...Made-up example here...There are those bloodstones in the northern lands, there. Hence it's name. The Warlock Knights fit their armor with bloodstones, representative of every individual they've killed. Those who have higher ranks have been known to fashion these stones in their own skin, running out of room. The Voice of Telos, has transformed himself into a 'Bloodstone Golem'.

This is a quote from the thread about the Warlock Knights except, and a really nice example what could be done.

There is a problem with this, as I as usual overlooked details.

"4th FR" can means just adapting things in an historical/fluff-neutral way, continuing the current time period or the post Spellplague era.

So, I remark, which guys will tackle down specific Spellplague and later stuff, who want to specialise in this specific, direct things? Or it's global?

Because I want to support the incoming stuff, of course.

I'd assumed that if one was doing 4e FR it was 100 years after Spellplague stuff.

Jul 29, 2008 17:16:38
I was speaking because there is probably a portion of peoples who want to continue current fluff/era just modded to the newer ruleset...
#41

markustay63

Jul 30, 2008 12:03:14
The way I see it, if we ork on both fluff and mechanical adaptions, then the people who want to continue in 3e FR (with 4e rules) can just use the mechanics we present, and ignore any fluff as to how they got that way.

Since everyone doing that will be doing there own spin on the events at the end of the GHotR, it will be neaarly impossible to write fluff that suits each individual campaign.

So if someone here writes a set of mechanics for a 4e Lythari or Avariel, they can ignore everything outside of those mechanics.

I really don't see this as becoming a problem - someone running one of those amalgam campaigns are probably willing to do all their own fluff anyway (they'd have to) - the hard part will be converting the rules.

-I made a 4th Edition ForgottenRealms Handy Links Thread today. Check it out. I put all of the links since GenCon last year in it. So when a new poster comes along, (hopefully it will be stickied somewhere around here) they can read it. Hopefully it will cut down on alot of the 'redundant' threads. You know What year is the 4E FRCG set in. Those kinda threads. If the new posters read the links, maybe it will give them some ideas and knowlegde of what is going on.

The FR conversions mentions where Winterhaven and Thunderspire are located in Cormyr.

Just an though, but how are the chances that wizards would allow you do add to the map from the Cormy Dragon backdrop? After all they added you stuff :D

I think that anything I produce that enhances people's enjoyment of the 4e game will not be challenged by them, as long as I make no claims as to ownership of any of the IP contained therein.

And as long as I post it all here, it becomes their property, so there shouldn't be a problem in either direction.

I was thinking about a minor re-work of that wonderful map anyway (to correct the coast), but I was going to wait until the FRCG came out.

Now for the important stuff - Do members of the Task Force get to wear capes and have a cool 'TF' logo on our chests? How about secret decoder rings? We just gotta have secret decoder rings.

Decoder Rings are of course extremly cool, but I remember that my Dragon magazine came one day with some instant tatoos looking like Eberon Dragonmarks, so I was thinking about the same just a spellscars with azure glow in the dark effect. :D

Correcting the coastline seems tough, but you can do it

Btw the new FR conversions actually have some of the old plot hooks with the immediacy (sp?) (if someone doesn´t act soon.....) even if one of them has a typo (that of there is aready an Azoun IV).

Just a list of super-hero type generic names that have ties to FR and/or the desire to keep FR 'complicated' (not my take, mind you).

I had no-one in mind for any of them - not even the Greenwood/Schend ones.

Except Krashos - I editted the original list and added him - his name already sounds like a cool comic-book charatcer. :D
