Suggestions for minimal 4e Zakhara changes?

I want to use Zakhara in my campaign, and I want to do as little work as possible updating it, so here are my thoughts so far:

1. Keep the pantheons as is.
2. Assume that Fate protected her own and that the Spellplague had little direct effect on the area.
3. The nature of magic and so on *has* changed, so that the new rules for magic apply - this means that Sha'irs need new rules and that the various (2e) kits will need to be converted to 4e, though I think I can do that by choice of feats, maybe introducing or relabelling a few new feats and the equivalent of background benefits. The players aren't going to be from Zakhara at this stage, so it doesn't matter much anyway.
4. Sha'irs are as wizards, get wizard at-will powers with the fluff altered to fit and get encounter and daily power in the old way - sending their gen off to find them, with suitable alteration of the % to find (maybe).
5. I'm keeping the clock at the same stage as the 2e box sets rather than moving it forward, since the players haven't seen the adventures I want to use.

Thoughts?

-The least intrusive way to change things would be to adapt the classes that need adaptation to the new rules, if you are going to be using the new rules, and leave it as that.

That's pretty much what I said. I suppose I probably need to make space for Genasi, but that's not much trouble, and Dragonborn Mamluks might be fun.

Was there even much historical of Zakhara after 2e?

-None at all. AGHotR might have added a flourish here or there, to remind people that it was part of the setting, but other than that...

Considering that all the Faerûnian Middle-Eastern cultures got nuked in 4e FR, playing Zakhara exactly as-is is a good call.

I don't think you even need to update the material - you can probably just use everything straight from the books, considering there hasn't been anything official since 2e.

Genasi should probably be incorporated...

And the Dgen's point of origin has changed now (the Elemental Maelstrom, rather then seperate planes).

Really, all I see is a few things that need some tweaking, nothing major.

It should be fairly easy to re-flavor some of the classes for 4e Al-Qadim.

You can find additional resources in Dragon Magazines 179, 190, 198, 201, 202, 233, 241, 250, 268, 315, 321, and 351.

The grand history makes one mention of a bit of trading after 1355 or so.

-There are mentions in regard to Calim and/or Memnon I believe.

Nope - that was just conjecture based on some suppositions put forth in Schend's Lands of Intrigue stuff - nothing 'official' ever came of it.

You're probably thinking of my histories, some of which I posted in the Utter East thread, and some more of it over at CK.

There's a couple of mentions in 3e SS of Zakhara, pertaining to trade.
