So they are releasing a set of adventures in Fall 2013 along with a set of novels for the Sundering event.

My question is will these be 4th Edition adventures? Edition Neutral? or something else?

Although a lot of people originally expected them to be 4E, it now seems like they might end up as edition-neutral adventures.

Here's the link to the first one spoiled. There's no mention of it being strictly geared towards 4E in the product details, whereas past adventures have made it very clear that they were 4th edition products. I'm curious to see how they pull this off if they are indeed going for edition neutral.

EDIT: Well, assuming this isn't a prank (and let's face it, there is no reason to believe it is), it seems that the adventures are maybe not-so-edition neutral after all.

Here is your first official #dndnext product. There is no way in hell they would release this as a 4E adventure t.co/nv5EyShj #realms

Brian goes on to say that:

4E is dead, and it would be very difficult to write a system-neutral adventure, especially given that adv portion is only 32 pages

It might be edition neutral since the description has no mention of adventure level.  It might use  say use so and so monster from the monster manual and release appropriate monsters in a play test packet.  They are doing something similar in the newest release for encounters.

But how can the release a module with no set of core rule books out for 5 E,    Sure we could use our test packets but , it just seems odd.  Also why can't they give a straight answer, Hey WOTC. Is this a 4e, 5 E or edition neutral release.   It's very easy to answer!!!   We your paying customers await.......

It's extremely, extremely unlikely that it will be a 4E module.  They can't really call it "edition-neutral" either, as it's clearly set in the period of the Sundering (5E / Next) for the Realms, so they'll probably expect that people will use it with the most current version of the 5E playtest.

I don't really see that as a problem.  The playtest is pretty fun as it is right now.

But it's really too bad - it's going to have the 'plague-jump stink all over it.  I would have much preferrred a Baldur's Gate from any other period in 1E-3E.  This is going to be a Baldur's Gate after it's had the post-plague, post-timejump "influx of refugees" and all.  It'll probably have NPCs with spellscars, dragonborn, genasi, and purified light brown drow living on some ridiculous floaty earthmote hanging over the city, fighting Asmodeus worshippers and aboleth agents openly in the streets.

If it does, it will be another non-sale for me.

The smartest thing they could do with all the Sundering-era modules is provide 4E stats as well as 5E stats, either in the book or as online supplements.  People who liked 4E Realms also tended to like 4E stats, so if they don't provide a set of 4E stats I think it'll be a mistake for those customers.
