Tanarukk legitimacy

Looking at the Tanarukk entry in Races of Faerun (pg 123) gives the LA of the creature at +3, but the ECL of 8

I'm not the biggest rules-lawyer, but realize that based on the HD and LA that the ECL of 8 is "accurate".

But looking at the creatures abilities, I do not think that LA is accurate. Say we have a CR 8 Tanarukk (no class levels)...

It has a good attack bonus, 5 BAB + 5 or 6 STR bonus, and he's in the double digits. However that BAB qualifies him for only 1 attack around (not counting his secondary bite attack)... not that great for a CR 8 "melee powerhouse"

Spell Resistance is 14, given the party is 8th level, full casters are too worried about this

Saves are +4 across, Dex bonus helps, but there is no Con boost and Wis gets a penalty, this thing will have some weak saves and the spells at this level should get through fairly well.

So now my question, is the Tanarukk a solid CR 8 before class levels? Please give reasoning with your answer.

ECL and CR is not the same
ECL is used if a PC want`s to play a charakter
CR is used if someone is fighting against a tanarukk

The tanarukk has only a CR of 4 or 5 I think (Monster of Ferun)

Turns out it is only CR 2... which makes it even stranger to me.

Adding two levels of Barbarian would make it CR 4, but ECL 10? Seems to be a bit of a gap there... am I missing something else?

Not really. Racial HD and LA were always extremely wonky and, in general, didn't work. One of the reasons 4th got rid of it.
