Any good book on Thayd, who created the red wizard legacy?

How would you handle his stats if he would return in the 14th century realms? What is his favorite school of magic? Favorite spell?

Sourcebooks mainly but books might be good aswell. To portray a well roleplayed Thayd I envision him as a likening to Jaffar from Disneys Aladin, but deranged and more powerful. He still is somehow banished to the Far Realms and got some terribly warped plans for the Realms. His corruption already has tainted one of my PC's.

-Can't think of anything mentioning him in any depth, really.

wasn't he executed

I would create some unique, cursed (look for some egyptian ones), godless mummy for him. Stats, conjurer, imaskari tradition, portals, extradimensional spaces

-Personally speaking, I think that might be a little too..."childish", or "simplistic", although I love that movie. It's one of my top three favorite Disney movies. Perhaps Emperor Palpatine, but in a more outright, less secret way, if that makes sense.

I have read some where that Thayd was "the last apprentice of Immaskar". So I suspect that he had a strong understanding of the Imaskari arts... which would mean heavy conjuration, portal magic, and summoning. I can't remember if he was the one who summoned Errtu, or if it was just the group of wizards who actually succeeded in rebelling.

Other than that, there is really little about him known. Who exactly he was, why he rebelled in the first place, details about the rebellion, etc...

The only info i found was in the 2nd edition Old Empires book. He used to be the archmage and vizier of GodKing Mulan families. He was used as an emissary to the Imaskari I think before the Orcgate wars but studied and learned their portal magic from the frequent visits. He got impressed by their power to thwart a priests connection to their god. Later when he got back he spurred his fellow mages to challenge the Godkings in a magical rebellion. The godkings proved victorious and Thayd was executed.

The Orcgate that eventually was opened near currentday Thay was likely the work of Thayd who somehow had survived his execution by blinking to a new dimension.

Hmm, there are no other popular wizards I know who capture his character. He must have been quite the weasel to manage to convince the Imaskari to give away their secrets. But yes, as powerful an archmage and mystic theurge as he was, he didn't prove as effective as Palpatine. He openly rebelled with spells blazing... proto-Red Wizard Style mixed with Southern Magic. Hmm. perhaps Sazz Tam could model Thayd's behaviour.

Still want to give him that southern Far Realms vibe. The Realms' South has plenty of different types of magic which Thayd mastered. Some of his arcane spells can be cast as divine spells, he studied Imaskari antidiety and extradimensional magic... Hmm. The far realmsian elementalist mystic who might have opened the Orcgate. Perhaps give him abberant Orcs as minions as first signs of him. What plane where those orcs in the Orcgate wars from?

The prime material plane. Just a different planet than Toril, not a different plane.

Ah, yes. Whas the name of that planet known? Are orc dominated planets common?

So Thayd is coming back in my campaign, as upon his execution he used some sort of translocation spell to end up trapped on the far outskirts of realmspace, where entities of the far realm talked to him for centuries making him insane with revenge. His presence is due to a coven of Binders who managed to contact Thayd through a vestige. Think I'm gonna place Thayd prison on the former orc world. So making that world taken over by Kaorti or other Far Realms creatures makes Abberant Thayd complete for an maddened invasion of Mulhorand and its regions...

-One of the books in the Cloakmaster Cycle series featured one.

Since Thayd has been in the Far Realm for so long, consider giving him the pseudonatural template (either the normal or epic version). Alternatively, he may have spawned a line of half-farspawn red wizards with the denizens of that place.

Are those templates in Magic of Fearun or are there 3.5 versions of them?

OK. If I am gonna stat Thayd he must be quite the threat. At least an epic mystic theurge. Hmm. Perhaps Male Pseudonatural Human Wizard 6/Cleric of Kossuth 6/Mystic Theurge 10/Archmage 1 (CR25?) if he ever gets a new body on Fearuns Prime. Otherwise he'll only be able to manifest as a vestige; perhaps even possesing the highest ranking Binders of his Coven.

Half far spawn Orcs and mulan Wizards (some of his ex collegues in the rebellion Thayd might have saved from execution aswell) as minons.

The normal pseudonatural template is also in Complete divine, reworked tobe 3.5 compatible. The epic version of the template would be found in an online 3.5 conversion guide for the epic level handbook.

The version in the epic level handbook is far more powerful. Entities in the far realm vary in power, as their mere existence defies the logic of frail mortal minds. :coolcthul

Another possibility is to make Thayd a paragon human. The paragon template is also in the epic level handbook.
