| #1Charles_PhippsJan 19, 2009 18:40:05 | When last I left the Realms, there was just the release of the 4th Edition Realms and The Pirate King. I've heard vaguely rumors that Mask has been killed since then (a face palm moment) but nothing else in that time. Really, I was curious if anything new has been announced or interesting for the Faux Realms? (as I've come to term the 4E version of the land). I'm mostly interested in anyone has any GOOD news, so to speak, about what's going on in the Forgotten Realms or things to look forward to. |
| #2AegeriJan 19, 2009 18:46:04 | I was curious if anything new has been announced or interesting for the Faux Realms? Shar died when she couldn't see her infinite black staircase of shadow (as she forgot to install lights in her abode) and broke her neck. Elminster was turned into a sentient giant carrot and eaten by a rabbit. Szass Tam discovered Jesus and renounced his evil ways. Also the Abolethic Sovereignty had to leave when they were sued by Cthulhu for infringement of copyright and they hadn't returned the Necronomicon they had out on loan from the library. |
| #3Charles_PhippsJan 19, 2009 18:55:19 | Until the Ssass Tam bit, I wasn't sure if you were making stuff up. |
| #4vebrandssonJan 19, 2009 19:05:37 | Hmm I'm not sure if its good news but Wa, Maztica, and Zakhara all seem to have vanished from the face of Toril and from mention unless we see some unexpected additional suppliments |
| #5Charles_PhippsJan 19, 2009 19:18:15 | I was aware of Maztica disappearing. Wa and Zakhara have disappeared to? Why get rid of one of the two Japans? |
| #6rinonalyrna_fathomlinJan 19, 2009 20:59:48 | I'm mostly interested in anyone has any GOOD news, so to speak, about what's going on in the Forgotten Realms or things to look forward to. *laughs* Not me... Of course, it's not like I really care about the current timeline anymore. |
| #7Charles_PhippsJan 19, 2009 21:09:20 | *laughs* Not me... As little as I care myself, I'm not really interested in bashing. Just a list of new happenings so I can decide what and if should be picked up for my games from the new Realms. |
| #8rinonalyrna_fathomlinJan 19, 2009 21:13:35 | As little as I care myself, I'm not really interested in bashing. I wasn't bashing anything, unless stating my lack of interest in something is "bashing" it. Just a list of new happenings so I can decide what and if should be picked up for my games from the new Realms. Aside from Show Mask being absorbed into Shar |
| #918DELTAJan 20, 2009 0:30:51 | -Dont forget Show Erevis Cale getting killed. |
| #10Charles_PhippsJan 20, 2009 0:35:46 | Yeah, a lot of shocks there. |
| #11TheriseJan 20, 2009 6:46:19 | When last I left the Realms, there was just the release of the 4th Edition Realms and The Pirate King. I've heard vaguely rumors that Mask has been killed since then (a face palm moment) but nothing else in that time. Really, I was curious if anything new has been announced or interesting for the Faux Realms? (as I've come to term the 4E version of the land). Well, Paul Kemp's final book came out: Shadowrealm. It was very good, although not "new" in the sense of 4E newishness (it was set near the end of 3.5, of course). And Mask, well... did he die? I'm not sure it was explicitly stated exactly in that way, but you'll have to read it for yourself. ;) |
| #12uzzyJan 20, 2009 10:29:36 | Hey there Charles. Good to see you. There's been plenty of good posts of lore over on Candlekeep, on the Ed Greenwood questions thread. Which would (sadly) appear to be pretty much the only source of new Realmslore we have. Ah well. |
| #1318DELTAJan 20, 2009 11:24:31 | -Now lets not forget Rich Baker, Brian R. James, and others. Lets not forget what Christopher Rowe pointed out in another thread that over 2000 pages of new realmslore and material were produced in only two months. That being Novels, the 2 new Realms Books and 1 adventure, and the Living Realms materials. ;) 18DELTA (SUPPORTING THE FORGOTTEN REALMS IN CYRICS NAME) :P |
| #14IluvrienJan 20, 2009 11:30:15 | That being Novels, the 3 new Realms Books, and Living Realms materials. ;) I thought it had been concluded that although LFR material is indeed a possible source of Realmslore, that since there are availability issues (i.e. you cannot either request it or buy it in its entirity) at this time, that it shouldn't be considered a single total? |
| #15rinonalyrna_fathomlinJan 20, 2009 11:40:21 | Also, one of the aforementioned "three new Realms books" is actually an adventure, not a sourcebook. I have not heard that it contains an especially heavy amount of lore. |
| #16IluvrienJan 20, 2009 16:07:14 | I have a little bit of good news for you Charles; from the looks of the most recent article about character Origins by BRC it seems that they are steering away from the shoe-horning of setting features from one into another while retaining them as options. |
| #17lord_karsusJan 20, 2009 16:20:42 | -BRC as in Bruce Cordell? |
| #1818DELTAJan 20, 2009 17:00:26 | I thought it had been concluded that although LFR material is indeed a possible source of Realmslore, that since there are availability issues (i.e. you cannot either request it or buy it in its entirity) at this time, that it shouldn't be considered a single total? -I do dislike that part, yet griping about it wont change it. (Not that I am saying that you are griping. )Also, one of the aforementioned "three new Realms books" is actually an adventure, not a sourcebook. I have not heard that it contains an especially heavy amount of lore. -Yet it does contain some new lore. It may be a retcon or a reimagining of previous lore. Thanks for pointing out the 3 Books error on my part. ![]() 18DELTA (SUPPORTING THE FORGOTTEN REALMS IN CYRICS NAME) :P |
| #19IluvrienJan 20, 2009 18:04:36 | -BRC as in Bruce Cordell? Indeed. Sorry to abbreviate his name but I was in a serious hurry when I jotted that one down and although it may be acceptable to refer to someone by their initials in private communications, in public it is a different matter. Apologies again. -I do dislike that part, yet griping about it wont change it. (Not that I am saying that you are griping. Also true, and as you suggested I wasn't griping. Yet bringing it up (again) did have a dual purpose. If memory serves at least one person (maybe two) said they would look into the possibility of this lore being made available in some accessible form (given or bought). I haven't seen anything more on the matter so I thought my comment would either solicit responses such as "What in the name of ballet dancing badgers are you talking about? We already have access.. Here (Linky)" or that it might remind the person (people in question) or get someone else thinking about it. Underhanded I know... but there you are. |

| #25JudgeDookieJan 21, 2009 23:42:19 | What about me? :D ;) You are still being discussed. So shut up until such a time when I can determine your validity. ![]() Only Maztica has vanished (parts of it anyway) Great. The good parts got left behind, I guess. ![]() EDIT: BTW: Sorry if you missed the quotes referring to OSoC. While such validity should be applied to you, too, that wasn't my intent to state such previously. ![]() |

| #29MattDrozJan 22, 2009 8:17:28 | What happened to: We are only going to release 2 FR sourcebooks and 1 adventure? Those were the books Rino was discussing. |

| #34markustay63Jan 22, 2009 13:51:02 | ...parts of it? From all appearances (and measurements), Returned Abeir isn't as large as all of Maztica was, and if it in fact was centered on Maztica-proper, then the entire sub-sub-continent of Lopango could still exist. ![]() Ignore the continet of Xendrik in place of Katashaka - that was just me playing around. Anyhow, you can also see that a wee-bit of the northern area of that campaign setting could still exist as well (detailed in at least one of the modules - the one with the 'City of Gold'). |
