| #1taziraiJun 28, 2008 1:49:37 | Savras is one of my favorite gods from the Forgotten Realms. I love rooting for the underdogs. In Each edition of D&D that i've played, I've always played Diviners. Dunno Why but I like my adventures to be thoughtful and imaginative. So I created this PrC, with a lot of fluff involved. The current campaign i'm in deals with Halruaa, Tashalar, and Netheril/Shade. So I created this PrC over the last week (Still new at this), for my Diviner. Please let me know what you think. If it's too powerful, balanced, somewhat balanced, or weak. be honest. And well enjoy it. |
| #2taziraiJun 28, 2008 1:50:26 | Eye of Savras PRC Savras stood in the Center of the Great Temple in Dweomerheart. The Clear Crystal Ball beneath his gaze swam with hundreds of eyes. Grasping the ball he focused his mind. Once he was and arrogant and impetuous mortal mage. He was defeated by Azuth and imprisoned in a scepter. This imprisonment served to remove those flaws from him. Now he stood and watched over Toril, he would know her fate. He saw times of peace and times of turmoil. He pushed further ahead, He saw within only a few short years. Short to a God that is, a great darkness even his eyes could not bypass. He tried again, still nothing. The detached and calm look on his Crystalline face, did not betray his frustration. He would, in one way or another know this dark void. Thoughts of The Hidden Gods filled him, Cyric, Shar, Mask, and possibly Talos. They must be behind this somehow. Still weakened after his release from the scepter, Savras was but a Demigod. To take on those four directly, would likely result in his imprisonment again or even “death”. He would watch them instead, look for weaknesses in their own magic and defenses. Once he had the knowledge he needed, only then would he move to remove the darkness that blankets Toril. Reaching into his Crystal Ball he grabbed one of the Eyes. He had the worship of many Diviners, and Oracles at his hand. Many were simply powerful mages with great destinies. He would have them serve his church in a new capacity. They would become his Eyes on Toril. They would seek out what he did not know. Closing his mundane eyes, his third opened, and he flung the Eye towards Toril. He repeated this many times. In Halruaa Sybil a Diviner of near middle years lay asleep when she had a vision of Savras Gazing upon her. When she awoke the next morning, upon her brow was a closed third eye, and a deep sense, that she needed to go to Tashalar. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Eyes of Savras are a small order of Arcane spell casters, chosen by Savras for their ability to uncover the hidden. Their task is to determine by the dark void in Toril’s future by using mundane and Arcane. They are independent agents who work alongside and report to the Church of Savras. Most Eyes of Savras are Diviners because of their focus on knowledge gathering. A smaller number are non specialist wizards, bard, and sorcerers. A few Multi-class Cleric/Wizards also become Eyes if Savras chooses them. Melee professions are almost never chosen, even if multi-classed. This is because of their lack of focus on magic. A typical Eye works alone, Yet they will accompany and seek the help of more Martial Characters who can make up for their lack of combat prowess. They simply try to observe the world to gather what they can without interfering. They will interfere if the need is dire enough They are more partial to using magic for their aide than physical means. A Eye of Savras can come across as aloof and detached. This is because they were chosen to be objective, and refrain from actions until needed. In order to save the world, you need to know who it needs saving from.- |

They retain any EX abilities gained. | #4taziraiJun 28, 2008 1:56:05 | Class Features: All of the following are class skills of the Eye of Savras. -Weapon and Armor Proficiency: They gain no proficiency in any weapon, armor, or shield. They in fact lose all previous proficiency with weapons except for the dagger. The dagger is the favored weapon of Savras, and is representative of the class. They take a -4 penalty in all physical combat when not using a dagger. -Spell casting: At each level she gains spells per day and an increase in caster level (and spells known if applicable), as if she gained a level in Wizard. She does not gain any other benefit of that class. -Arcane Disciple (EX): The Eye of Savras at level 1 gains access to the Arcane Disciple feat. They must take the Knowledge domain as their chosen domain. They gain the +1 caster level boost benefit for all Divinations. -Ceremony of Visions (SU): Level 1 This special ceremony occurs only a few times a year, and only on nights of the full moon. The head of the Savran church or the head Sibyllite performs the ritual. The ritual supernaturally alters the initiate. During the ceremony they are to bring all Spellbooks, and scrolls. They then foreswear the use of another school of magic, and dedicate themselves to Divination further. If they have access to the school of Illusions, then that school is chosen above all others. They can never choose Abjuration or transmutation. All Spellbooks containing Illusions are altered, those spells replaced by Savras, with Divinations equal to the spell level of the spell removed. The next step of the ceremony is known as the awakening. A spectator (beholder kin), speaking in divine and arcane tongue, under Savras’ guidance, Opens the third eye of the Initiate. The opening of the eye is a strenuous process, but at the end, the initiate is granted a boon of great Wisdom. They gain an immense insight into the world. In game terms they gain +2 to Wisdom. But this boon comes at a great cost; their bodies give up a portion of vitality, for this. In game terms they lose -2 to Constitution. From this point on they have become a smaller portion of Savras; gaining spell like abilities thru their Supernatural eyes. -Divination Spell Enhancement (Ex): Level 3 Beginning at 3rd level, and again at levels 6 and 9; The Eye of Savras gains a +1 To all caster levels involving Divination spells, up to t max of +3 CL. This comes at a price, they lose -1 CL to spells of other schools up to a max -3 penalty. -Eidetic Memory (EX): Level 3 Upon Attaining third level, the mind of an Eye of Savras has reached the point where it can recall nearly any bit of information it has seen or heard. This includes knowledge and perceptions, committing specifics to memory, and making accurate observations. This ability functions like bardic knowledge. She adds her Eye of Savras level + Int modifier to a lore check. These levels stack if she has levels in Bard or Loremaster, or any other class that grants ability similar. |
| #5taziraiJun 28, 2008 1:58:00 | Savras being a god of order and details wants to observe as much as possible for as long as possible. This ability allows the EoS to cast any Divination they know as if it were Extended. The spells level does not change and the casting is the same. They do not need to prepare it ahead of time. At the time of their choosing Savras places a mystical closed third eye upon their brows. At the completion of the Ceremony the eye opens. The eye serves as a mystical connection to Savras, but also independent of him. It is a gift for their dedication to the cause of Order and knowledge. He may use the eye to see thru to Toril at any time, but only does so once the Eos is asleep. This is done with the permission of the subject. This way Savras can learned anything that has happened from the source. Below is a list of the Spell like abilities and weaknesses of the Eye. Level 1: +3 Insight bonus to resist Illusion spells and effects. +2 Insight bonus to Search and spot checks. Detect Magic/ Detect Shadow Weave user, useable each 1/day per Wisdom modifier. Level 2: They gain Low light Vision Level 3: +4 Insight Bonus to Search and Spot checks, +4 Insight bonus vs. Illusions, +3 Insight bonus vs Glyphs, Runes, and Wards. Level 4: See Invisibility/Discern Shape changer up to 60’, useable 1/day per Wisdom modifier. Level 5: +6 Search and Spot checks, +5 vs Illusions Level 6: Permanent Dark vision and Arcane sight 60’ Level 7: +8 Search and spot checks, +6 vs Illusions. Level 8: Remote viewing as the Clairvoyance spell, Chain of Eyes, useable 1/day per Wisdom modifier. Level 9: +10 Search & Spot, +7 vs Illusions Level 10: The All Seeing eye. They Gain permanent true seeing as the Cleric spell. For all the great powers the Eye bestows, there is a downside. The eye is Extremely vulnerable to attacks that attack vision, such as Gaze attacks. They suffer a -5 penalty to any saving throw involving a gaze attack. In addition any effects that dispel or suppress magic, for even their natural eyes are now supernatural, can blind them. The Eye of Savras uses their caster level to resist dispel checks against their eyes. • All Bonuses are Insight Bonuses. |
| #6taziraiJun 28, 2008 2:01:21 | -Observer (EX): Level 1 Upon completion of the ceremony of visions, the Eye of Savras is charged to stand apart from the world and observe it. To interfere only in the direst of circumstances, but to always watch and observe. One cannot save the world if they do not know who their enemy is. This detached observational method has negatively affected the combat prowess of an Eye of Savras. As their observational prowess grows, their physical ability falters. At each level of this class, they take a -1 penalty to all forms of physical combat. They also take a 1 penalty to armor checks, and a +10% penalty to Arcane spell failure while wearing armor. -Persistence of Savras (EX): Level 10 Savras seeks the truth at any cost, this persistence has led to many people being saved, and lives changed. Their Divination spells last for 24 hours as though prepared by the Persistent feat. This reduces the spells level to +3 spell levels higher, but does not affect casting times. -Scrying adept (EX): Level 7 Due to an intense focus on observing they gain a+2 Insight bonus to Scrying attempts. They also gain a +2 Insight bonus to Intelligence to know if they are being watched by a scrying sensor. -Spontaneous Divination (EX): Level 5 At 5th level they Gain access to the Spontaneous Divination ability. This skill allows an Eye of Savras access to ANY Divination spell she knows. She can then replace any spell slot with a Divination. This allows her to take spells to protect and defend herself and allies. -Stillness of Savras (EX): Level 4 He is a god know for acting only after he has learned what is needed to win. So he can spend days calmly observing the world. This ability allows the Eye of Savras to cast any Divination known as being under the Still Spell feat. This ability does not raise the spells level or affect it’s casting times. That's it.. I can fill in more fluff later.. Sleepy now though Thanks for Any input. I want to play this PrC, but before I hand it to DM, I want some objective opinions. This is not a combat class, and our campaign, hopefully is explained enough. we do engage in fights, but it's much more interactive than just bashing stuff. |
| #7taziraiJun 28, 2008 20:00:13 | bumping , because I'd really like some input. or should I move to the Forgotten Realms board? |
| #8ciaranJun 28, 2008 20:43:58 | It seems very complicated. I'm not a great judge on balance, but it does seem like the mechanics of the class have more Role-playing than Roll-playing involved, and balancing that is a different beast altogether. There was too much to really take in, but here's a few thoughts: -Religion: campaign specific is fine, but include a note on using it in other worlds as well. -Alignment: No room for deviation at all? Well, thats a flavor issue, so no prob I guess. -Skill: Thats ALOT of requirements. I'd cut it back. -Spells: the spellcasting advancement should appear in the main chart. Also, restricting the class to wizards only is strange. I could see a PrC being more appealing to certain classes, but not exclusive to only one. |
| #9taziraiJun 28, 2008 22:48:45 | thanks for the advice. I'll probably go ahead and post it to the FR boards also. Since it relates directly there. |
| #10ORC_NashiraJul 01, 2008 3:38:33 | Moved at VCL request. |
| #11suin_bahhar_02Jul 01, 2008 6:39:30 | If you can format the abilities a little better the class might work, but now it has too many abilities. I recommend placing the more flavourfull ritualistic abilities in an Affiliation ala PH2, and leave the improved divination spellcasting and the third eye abilities in the PrC. The flavour of the class seems to resemble a mix of the Divine Oracle PrC (Complete Divine) and the Unseen Seer (Complete Mage). Try looking at those to get a better focus on wording and assigning the right abilities. |
| #12lord_karsusJul 01, 2008 10:23:12 | -Might I suggest an "insight" bonus to AC, based on the character knowing the attack is coming? |
| #13taziraiJul 01, 2008 23:50:14 | Thanks for this. Im working on a newer "CLEANER" Version now. This one is kinda jumbled as it stands. The new one will also have a better layout and what I believe are better abilities. |

But this is my first PrC. you guys gave good advice. i'll have the next one ready by tomorrow. |
| #15Mr_MiscellanyJul 02, 2008 0:28:42 | This PrC is really awesome. I like how it fits the flavor of Savras. Question though: Don’t you see this PrC as being the ultimate incarnation of Divination-induced DM headaches? ;) Would this PrC be more likely to be found in any particular part of Faerûn? If yes, where would you place them? |
| #16valgardJul 02, 2008 2:18:55 | I don't see why they have to lose weapon proficiencies. This class is intended to wizard characters and they actually have few proficiencies, so I don't think it's necessary to restrict them even more. Even if you're not a wizard, you'll concentrate more on spellcasting rather than combat ability so your own will be somewhat poor, so this loss of proficiency doesn't really balance anything at all. Just my thoughts. |
| #17taziraiJul 02, 2008 23:03:31 | I don't see why they have to lose weapon proficiencies. This class is intended to wizard characters and they actually have few proficiencies, so I don't think it's necessary to restrict them even more. It's more for flavor than game mechanics. This PrC was made with less "ROLL-playing" in mind. Savras isnt known for his combat expertise, but he favors the dagger. My reason for his favoring of the dagger, Is it's piercing characteristics. He pierces Illusion and Lies. It isnt about balance for them to lose proficiency. This class is designed to avoid physical combat at all costs. They are to provide the information to those who can make a difference. In the description of Savras, It states he is detached, because he feels helpless to solve the problems he sees. But he cares for the world deeply. This PrC works in tandem with the Church of savras. They provide the information and the Monks and Sibyllites solve the problem. Thanks for your input though, it is greatly appreciated. This PrC is really awesome. I like how it fits the flavor of Savras. Thanks for that. Im a big fan of Savras, and the Campaign i'm a part is not going to kill him. We'll incorporate some of the 4E. The Idea behind this class, is to find out WHY Savras can't see past the gloom. Then to inform those capable of removing the gloom. Question though: Don’t you see this PrC as being the ultimate incarnation of Divination-induced DM headaches? ;) No not really. Because the power of this class lies not in ALWAYS asking the DM the obvious. Most of the Skills are designed around using common sense. The boosts in power levels only increase duration and effect. Not the amount of questions asked. I only play Diviners or Illusionists in Games, simply because of my imagination. I visualize things better than some GM's. Would this PrC be more likely to be found in any particular part of Faerûn? If yes, where would you place them? This is based in the Shining South, Around Halruaa and Tashalar. They are working with the Halruaa Elders, The Sibyllites of Savras' church, and working against Dambrath, Shar, Mask, and Cyric. The Revised PrC is re-written, and I'm typing it up in word now. Will Post soon. |

| #19markustay63Jul 02, 2008 23:26:37 | I may want to borrow some of this for my Utter East project... if I ever get back to it. I had worked some stuff out about Savras myself (I'm also a fan!), because I wanted to tie him to the people of Konigheim, some of whom have a third eye! Psuedo-canon, from the quasi-canonical Double Diamond series. Anyhow, I made him out to be a Halruaan who spent many years studying in the Utter East, and he became a follower of Surya (the Vedic three-eyed god). When that god was destroyed (by Talos, I believe), his 'Chosen' absorbed his divine might, and ascended. I don't know if that fits into what your doing, but its just some background to give him a connection to the Mar culture in the Ue, because he fits in with their Pantheon very well. After becoming a god, he was also worshipped by the lower classes of Konigheim, some of whom tatoo their forheads with a third eye. For the priesthood, this eye eventually become functional (and for a rare few natural births with the mutation, seen as a "Child of Savras"). If I may, when your done tweaking this, I'd like to add it into the Ue Netbook... which may or may not ever see the light of day. |

I like your Idea. Alot. Savras is a native Halruaan who ascended to Godhood, canonically. The premise wasn't even to create a PrC. But my Character Sybill, was to be a Child of Savras.. A direct descendant to him. While Making her the idea for this PrC came about. Spoke to GM told me to work it out, So im in tweak mode now. |
| #21lord_karsusJul 03, 2008 11:58:24 | -Just, as a side note, feel free to post the new, revised version you have in either this thread, or a new one. |
