#6 markustay63 Jul 21, 2009 10:53:02	Fey = Seelie Fey Goblinoids = Unseelie fey Elves = Fey that have left Faerie for the Prime Material Orcs = Goblinoids that have left Faerie for the Prime Material Ergo, Orcs are related to Goblinoids in much the same way as Elves are related to Fey, and all of them stem from the same Creator-group way back when. Thats my story, and I'm sticking to it. :P A bit Tolkienesque, but it's really more about folklore (where Tolkien himself drew much of his inspiration). Not sure about Trolls... obviously there are two types of those as well (not talking about sub-races here). The ones in the Moonshaes follow the more traditional Troll-under-the-bridge variety, being much smaller and having ties to Faerie. I would assume the 'normal' D&D ones are the ones who left Faerie for the Prime Material, in the distant past (something about the Prime makes stuff grow larger... go figure). They would seem to be related to the Unseelie, but thats too simple, and doesn't really make a whole lot of sense. I think they may be a seperate species altogther that originated in Faerie (perhaps they are even the aboriginal race of the plane, before the Le'Shay moved-in and took over?) On the other hand, we also have third species in Faerie - Giants! The D&D trolls may be crossbreed, or some sort of experiment by the Giants, using Faerie-Trolls (Trollkyn) as a base-creature. Also not sure how the Giants fit into the greater scheme of things with the Seelie and Unseelie. 4e seems to place them squarely in the Unseelie camp with the Fomorians, but I think there is a lot more to it then that. If I fall-back onto Celtic/Irish Folklore, the Giants were FIRST... which means they should have been the race that inhabited the Feywild before the Le'Shay discovered/created it (making the Le'Shay the equivalent of the Tautha De' Danann of myth). I'm re-building a lot of D&D's mythology to suit my homebrew world, and a LOT of it will be based on Celtic folklore (mixed with other mythology to make it all cohesive).

I've always been a sucker for the classic take that elves and orcs are antithetical parallels. As for your Giants dilemma, I've been wondering myself what to do with them in my own FR. I'm not particularly opposed to the idea of having them in the Unseelie camp, but in my mind I feel I could find a much better position in which to place them (and by "better", I mean one that isn't as black-and-white as Seelie v. Unseelie).

Small people with very hairy legs and tiny little 'bumps' for Horns (my halflings are Fauns). They also have large, hoof-like two-toed feet (but not the backward-facing knees typical of Saytrs). I don't have standard Gnomes either - I use a Gnome/Goblin amalgam (similar to the Goblins in WoW). I'm trying to make everything unique, while still preserving the flavor of a traditional fantasy setting.

Still I like playing the bigger ones more. At the moment I'm trying to reintroduce playable and NPC Lythari to 4E. Unfortunately they become weaker each edition, but it's the style that counts.

#21 ravenharm Jul 28, 2009 21:56:59	a cool way to blend this post to the realms is how fey can fit into realms setting. i used to have a npc/dmpc satyr/wild scout whos home was the high forest. we have three pc's and they wanted a fourth that noone wanted to play. so i created the best support class. he was unique without stealing the thunder or spotlight and even got players intrested in high forest politics. trying to keep this thread active because i love fey so much. lol
