So, you want to talk Realms and D&D...where to go next?
There's www.forum.candlekeep.com. Perks include their ask and answer threads with authors and game designers, and an enormous storehouse of Realms information on the main website, including an up to date product catalog: www.candlekeep.com.
ENWorld is about the best run and moderated gaming website out there: www.enworld.org.
RPG.net's forums have some interesting "Let's Read" threads that cover Realms sourcebooks from cover to cover: http://www.rpg.net/.
Oh, also The Piazza, which has a marvelous forum space dedicated to old campaign worlds. From Blackmoor to Talislanta, you'll find it there. They discuss new campaign worlds and currently published campaign worlds, so in addition to the Realms you'll find Eberron and Nentir Vale discussions there as well.
Oh, and the Piazza has rolled out the welcome mat to WotC forum refugees.
What's the old saying? Those who wander are not lost.
See you around the interwebs.
Edit: If you join up at Candlekeep, be sure to introduce yourself. And tell them Miscellany sent you.
Edit #2: If you have content on the WotC forums you'd like to save, EN World has started a new forum to dump content into and sort out later: http://www.enworld.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?538-WotC-Emergency-Evacuation-Lifeboat |
| #2CaolinSep 16, 2015 15:39:46 | So they are taking away the one way for fans to communicate with WoTC? Classic. |
| #3TyranthraxusSep 16, 2015 19:55:38 | Not really. You are actually far better off trying to communicate with WOTC via the various contact us functions: Emails/Phone than you are on the forums. WOTC staff havnt been incredibly active on the forums for a loong time. |
| #4LordManshoonSep 16, 2015 21:42:41 | I just made an ENWorld account. I've had a Candlekeep account for years but never used it much. I'm so used to lurking when it comes to talking FR and D&D in general that it might take me a while to get back into the swing of things.
As for the decision to close these forums, it's disappointing, but a part of me feels this was bound to happen sooner or later. The board transitions were just so disastrous that the forums lost boatloads of posters, not just drips and drabs, and they never really recovered after that. It's a shame because many of the people who left were very thoughtful and provided great detail to various subjects. I'll be here until the end, though. |
| #5Mr_MiscellanySep 16, 2015 21:58:59 | I think Caolin is speaking more in terms of people expressing themselves about current and future products, and WotC policy, than he is about someone trying to reach out to WotC and get them to listen. |

| (Reply to #6)Caolin | Yeah, smart entertainment providers provide a forum for their fans and customers to communicate with them and each other in an effort to provide the best content possible. Not sure there has been much WoTC presence here beyond a handful of Realms authors. But this move proves to me that they have no interest in communicating with fans and customers. |
