The Glass Mesa in Akanûl

Okay, so... I came across this entry under "Plots and Adventure Sites" in the Akanûl entry on p. 91 of the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide:

In the Akanûl wilderness rears a great translucent tableland, apparently a solid chunk of clear quartz. Sometimes a blot darkens the mesa's heart; other times it is absent. The genasi say the Glass Mesa is a remnant of Shyr, though none alive know what function, if any, it once served. By decree of Akanûl's first queen, the Glass Mesa is off-limits to all citizens, on pain of death.

Does anyone have any idea what the Glass Mesa actually is? Are DMs just left to create an adventure around this site, using only the description given? I mean... not to seem unimaginative or uncreative, but... that's pretty vague! I guess that's the point?

If anyone knows anything about the Glass Mesa or has any ideas, I'm all ears! Thanks! Laughing

thats about all we know  about it.

you could ask Ed Greenwood about it at Candlekeep or teaser tips about it, as I'd imagine that it may be NDA.

I'd imagine that it may have something to do with a primordial.

The_Silversword, look at the entry I copied, above. It says, in relevant part:

"The genasi say the Glass Mesa is a remnant of Shyr."

I did not read this to mean that, "all of Akanûl was a remenant of Shyr," only that the genasi believe, "the Glass Mesa is a remnant of Shyr."

And, yes, sfdragon, I know "NDA" can mean "Non-Disclosure Agreement" (obviously); I was just asking if that's what you meant in this context. It is not apparent - at least, not to me - why the answer to my question would be protected by an NDA.

Nevertheless, I appreciate your replies!

Maybe I should reread the book. I thought that all of Akanul was part of the Abierian contient of Shyr which was trasported to Toril during the Spellplague, so it doesnt make sense to me for this crystal mesa to be singled out as part of Shyr when I thought the whole area was. I guess it would be possible that it was a pre existing area on Toril that changed with the Spellplague, I'll have to go check older source material to see if anything matches up, but if the Genasi say its a remenant of Shyr then that seems unlikely. I would like more info on this as well (among other things). I'm behind on the novels maybe it was coverd in one of them? Or perhaps a LFR adventure? I agree with sfdragon it does sound like something to do with the Primordials, maybe one is imprisoned there? But the blot only shows up sometimes? Maybe the area is still in a state of transition or something, maybe the primordial and perhaps parts of the mesa itself are still phazing in and out with Toril? Who knows? But you got me interested in this now too.

If something is NDA in the Realms, it's because they plan on using it in a future Novel, Sourcebook, whatever. They don't want what you have to pay for to be free...

IMC, the dark shape therein is the imprisoned form of Karshimis, the primordial who ruled Shyr before the Spellplague came and ruined his fun.

The paragon tier of my current campaign is likely to end there. I actually want to repeat a scene from one of the I3-5 adventures from 1E and have the PCs sail across the glass on skate-ships while avoiding purple worms... or not.
