Furthermore, these creatures are highly intelligent, and by taking his undead form, he is uniquely placed in the effort of .. shall we say.. downloading their entire life expiriences when the day comes. Now for the trickier: how? Illithids reproduce via inserting tadpoles into peoples skulls, these tadpoles then completely change the body into a illithid while remaining in control. He simply made simulcras of illithid tadpoles, and inserted the same into various humanoids. Perhaps results of a few "origin: human" epic spells? This works, as the end result is a completely new creature, neither human nor simulcra, yet the underlying enchantment stays in control. In effect, a simulcra of sorts that can learn and gain levels, be wounded and heal... and feel frustratrated, the way illithids are bound to :D The reverse wouldnt work quite as well: simulcra human and real tadpole. There you would end up with a hostile creature. Unless you keep them on the special drug that keeps the humanoid in control, that is. |

No...In all likelihood, he was most likely planning his "transformation" into something more than Human before taking his apprentices. His current state (an Elder Brain Lich) wasn't an "accident", you know. |

Which is why magical interaction is about Control. Like the spell domination, yes, but also charm. The same stays true with creating golems and summoning monsters. Always about total controll, if ever possible. The "friendly tones" -diplomacy+10 for 1turn/level(?).. or "friendly community" -spells are all missing. Wizards are at heart a very paranoid bunch, so whenever absolute domination presents itself, they tend to grab it. By the Bleeding Heart of Karsus, your namesake, even distrusted magic itself! And thus sought to place himself in control. And oh yes, i completely agree on his transformation being no accident at all. He just neglected to tell Tabra.. Which no doubt reinforced the notion absolute controll of all around is neccesary for polite interaction. Not that the blasting of a few thousand illithid slaves of his really hurt him, but it must have been annoying to lose a year worth of work (or there about). |

Teaching yourself a foreign language from a textbook is much more difficult than having a teacher help you learn the language. |
