Other than that, Orc King covers some recent history of the Realms, though most of the novel appears to be a flash back, which covers how the area of Luruar reached it's ongoing political climate.
There may be other novels, but I'm not aware of them.
However, all you need to get going in the Forgotten Realms is in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide, and in a few weeks, the Players Guide for the same world.
I would recommend Swordmage over Orc King, but then I'm not a fan of the Drizzt books in general and read that one as a stand alone.

Maybe some of the newer books int he series deal with these issues.
Drizzt is alive in the current time line, as the preface and epilogue of Orc King show.

Karsus, if you're going to steal all our threads for your bit of the board... ;) ... could you and Wolfstar arrange for redirects between this forum and the Realmslore forum to go at the top of each? I have never visited the Realmslore parts of these boards - never really been much of a FR fan before - and being reminded of the resources and discussion there every time I look at the LFR forum would be good! I'd hate to miss out on all the info that doesn't get discussed over here :D
As mentioned in this thread - I've actually been contemplating asking for a shortcut link from the Realms forums back here to LFR as I see it's a natural fit. Just been looking to get a little feedback from others to see if the rest of the community thinks its a good idea. If I can get a little support I'll make the request in the Community Business forum and see where it goes from there.
As for Karsus stealing threads, so far as I can tell he's not a VCL anywhere, so I'm not sure how/where he thinks he'll be getting threads moved. That's

He *is* right, however, and this is more of a Realmslore thread, so I am asking it be moved (with fancy little pointers so we can still claim first dibs, of course).
Just released this month are two novels set in Waterdeep. One by Steven Schend, called Blackstaff Tower, and one by a fellow named Ed Greenwood, called Mistshore. (which is a new neighborhood or ward in Waterdeep).
Actually, Jaleigh Johnson wrote Mistshore. The full title of the series is "Ed Greenwood Presents: Waterdeep", but he isn't writing any of the novels (that said, each novel has a forward written by him).
And, just in case you weren't aware of it, Ed Greenwood is the creator of the Forgotten Realms setting.
