There have been many discussions speculating about the fate of the Seven Sisters in the fourth edition. This post is intended as a resource for those seeking information about their fates and whereabouts, and reports on a recently completed search of the fourth edition lore. It contains a brief summary of what is known about each woman, an index of all mentions of the Seven in the fourth edition lore published to date, and a list of the works cited in the index.

This post almost certainly contains omissions or errors and I ask the aid of any who read it in correcting those. I will also update this post as new lore is published and more information comes to light.

Please note that the index (which is the section most likely to be incomplete) contains eight entries, one for each of the Seven and one for the Sisters collectively. To foster ease of use, I have used what I believe to be the simplest and best known names for each of these women.

-------------------------------------

Alustriel: is mentioned in those places cited below. She is known to have died before 1479 DR while holding the office of High Lady of Silverymoon.

Dove Falconhand: has not yet been mentioned in the fourth edition lore and her fate is unknown (but see note, below).

Laeral: is mentioned in those places cited below. Based on the evidence of passages at page 236 in BT, she is believed to have died, perhaps after 1391 DR as that is the date given for her memoir, Lifelong with Regrets. However, the dating remains uncertain as it is unclear whether 1391 is the year of composition or the year of publication of that work.

The Simbul: is mentioned in those places cited below. She is known to be alive, but living in hiding somewhere in the Dalelands, fostering the widespread belief that she is dead.

Storm Silverhand: is mentioned in those places cited below. Her fate is unknown (but see note below).

Syluné: is mentioned in those places cited below. She is known to be dead, as revealed in the lore of previous editions.

Qilué: has not yet been mentioned in the fourth edition lore, but is known to be dead, as revealed in the lore of a previous edition.

Note: Though the fates of neither Storm Silverhand nor Dove Falconhand are known, on 23rd August, 2008, Ed Greenwood, speaking through an associate at this webpage, wrote that "...the fates of the Seven are revealed in the FRCS or in Realms novels, or will be revealed in the fullness of time. One of [Dove or Storm] is definitely NOT dead in the Year of the Ageless One."

Great idea for a thread, I'm sure it will be appreciated.

Indeed.

BTW--Simbul is alive. No question.

Oh yeah! That's why I bolded that bit. I meant that she was fostering the belief in the Realms that she's dead. If that makes any sense. I'll figure out a way to fix it and go in and edit this afternoon. Time to turn off the modem for the working day!

I thought I read in a post somewhere that Laeral is holed up in a magic tower with new baby twins. (Or is that just Angelina?)

Sorry, Butch--you bolded a lot of things. Never sure if these are statements of fact or simple assumptions.

No--she dead.

How?

Still up for debate, but she is definitely gone.

Buh-bye.

Well I personally hope Laeral is alive, she was always my favourite of the seven sisters.

Azalar Falconhand on pg112

What's this in reference to?

Azalar is Dove's son. However, if one is to list him, one may as well list all the other known children of the Seven Sisters.

The way the game designers trashed and retconned everything else in the realms I'm surprised all the 7 didn't die by a level 1 Bullywug commoner.

I wonder which one will turn out to be alive - Dove or Storm. Personally I'd prefer Storm Silverhand.

That would have been awesome. So much power, bought down by the end of a pitchfork.

I'll have to remember that if anyone ever asks.

Indeed, and no mention of his mother. Yet another of the things that makes me believe (hope) that the one of the two to survive is Storm... although what she might be doing now that at least 4 of her sisters are dead is beyond me.

I can't believe they killed them all .

I know, I hate it.

So superior, aren't we?!

"My Realms."

Well, my Realms are more superior, woman! In mine, I have 8 sisters! And they are all alive and have bunches of kids and stuff!! It's a magical NPC nightmare, I say!

A big magical NIGHTMARE!!!

Lets not forget tha 1425 DR is Year of the Seven Sisters

At first I thought they were going to tie all their deaths - or at least most of them - to that year, to make everything work out, but since they killed Qilue and Selune (again) in 3e, this year name no longer makes any sense.

Edit: It's still salvagable - I think I might have a converstaion with BRJ about this...

Actually, IIRC the name of the year is The Year of Seven Sisters. So, while I'd agree it makes one immediately think of THE Seven Sisters, it might have nothing to do with them.

But I'm sure it has to. What other reason to name a year so?

They don't even have to be literal sisters really... could refer to something like the Seven Plagues of Mulhorand (no such thing I know, but you get the idea)... or an alliance founded by seven different towns or city-states... or maybe a series of waterfalls on a river... or maybe an adventuring group that took the name to honor their childhood idols... or any number of other reasons that have nothing to do with Mystra's daughters.

Which I guess is the long way of saying that I agree with Rino. :D

Indeed, the year names are supposed to be cryptic and poetic, although in recent years a number of products have taken the year names literally.

So the current year is 1479 DR, Year of the Ageless One. FRPG page 4. To me this sound like a dirrect link to Elminster. I mean come on the Old Sage of Shadowdale has been the old sage for a very long time and really has not aged much though out the editions. Maybe the writers have something planned for future release. Gods I hope so. So far I am not overly impressed with the 4E FRCS but I am willing to test it out and roll with it.

Elminster isn't exactly ageless, though. He's not "eternal", and he does not appear never to age (he looks old, if nothing else).

The riddles with the names are good, though sometimes the connection between the name and events is too obvious (e.g. The Year of Lighting Storms, The Year of the Harp Unstrung, the Year of Risen Elfkin).

And just to add to Rinonalyrna's reply...

Remember, also, that the Year names on the "Roll of Years" are based on Alaundo and Augathra's prophecies -- which are cryptic and poetic, not descriptive, and many of them are nothing more than the year names. The idea is not that they definitely refer to large-scale events: sages differ, even after the fact, on what the prophecies refer to. These guys are crazy mystics, not big-man-theory historians, and their visions were not all of the RSE-type events that TSR has trained some of us to think 'important.'

In other words, "Ageless One" may not necessarily refer to Elminster, or any known aspect of the Realms at this time.

Could conceivably refer to a moldering wheel of cheese worshipped by some kook in a cave in Chessenta who goes on to conquer a tribe of kobolds that no one has ever heard of... wouldn't be the first time for that sort of thing.

Well, I must admit I was not a fan of the chosen, since I didnt like the feeling of being a lackey, but I did like the sisters. However, I wanted some change in that, but now I have a hard time in holding up my suspension of disbelief when I look at the events that occured within the last 100 years. Things we were told a hundred-thousand times to be impossible. Not because of scale or impact, but because of the mood the setting was supposed to possess. They destroyed things I liked and raised some stuff I never wanted to give even recognition to.

I guess thats a tribute to the phrase:"You should be carefull what you are wishing for. You might receive it."
