The spell plague and Cormyr

I've got a question for the community. I am at work and when I get home I will be running my campaign so no real time to check this out myself so I figured if anyone could answer my question that would save me some running around when I get home.

I have a player who is creating a new character. My campaign is taking place in Cormyr, near the Thunder Peaks. My player wants to have a spell scar. I am going to oblige him with his request, however; for my own sanity I need to know if the plague affected much of cormyr, and specifically my area? I realize that an individual hadn't need to come into contact with infected lands but I would rest easier if I new that it wasn't an extremely rare occurance to see spell scarred individuals in Cormyr.

I really appreciate any feedback!

-This belongs in the Forgotten Realms Realmslore section. It'll be moved.

-To say that the Spellplague "avoided" Cormyr would be wrong, but Cormyr avoided a lot of the more catastrophic effects of the Spellplague (and specifically the Spellplague. A lot of change has happened in the region, but it's not necessarily Spellplague related). A greater depth than the FRCG exists on Cormyr HERE.

I can't think of any near-by active Plaguelands off the top of my head. Starmantle isn't that far away, and I think that's still plague-touched.

Oh, the Tilverton Scar. I nearly forgot. There you go. The only known plagueland in Cormyr.

The Helmlands can also be considered active again. In Brian's Cormyr article, he pointed-out that some of the 'weird terrain' that appeared in northern Cormyr during the ToT is now permanently present.

I would think that any area where the Weave was already weakened by previous disasters would be more prone to a 'Plaguelands' effect. The Helmlands are also present on the map that came with Brian's Cormyr article, meaning they still exist in 4e.

That's a direct quote from the FRCG, For what that's worth.

Considering the source... Nothing.

Its filled with innacuracies and self-contradictions. :P

We've been told that effects of the Spellplague mirror the effects seen in wild magic zones during (and after) the ToT, and the Helmlands are still present on a 4th edition map.

Also, being 4e, Plaguedlands exist anywhere the DM feels like saying they exist. The FRCG is not the all-informative setting we once had, and DMs ar required to make-up any details they find neccessary to running their games.

In fact, in a 4e world, the setting guide is just a set of suggestions. Canon, for all intents and purpose, does not exist.

Wow, that's a big change. I remember never having to make up details before.

The diffence being that we have been 'freed' from the plethora of canon by the 4e changes. For whatever reason, many felt shackled by the lore, rather then enhanced by it.

Not my opinion mind you - just the one used by WotC for the changes.

With that in mind, DMs are free to use or not use whatever they feel like. This was always the case, but those fans (and players) of the setting who insisted on canoness have now been disarmed, and no longer present a threat to their DMs.

I can't believe I even just said that...

Anyhow, its all good. I'm finding it hard to understand why so many folks come here to ask our advice, when they should be talking to their DMs about what is where and what they can do. And if you're the DM... welcome to the all-empowering 4e! Put whatever you like wherever you like... at the end of the day, it's YOUR setting, not anyone else's.

This is actually 4e's strongest point, IMHO.
