| #1zombiegleemaxJan 14, 2009 19:52:41 | What ever happened to the Tree of Souls that was presented in the old 2ed Elves of Evermeet book? I'm wondering because a group of bladesinging elves in my campaign, the Blood Dragons, want to plant it. To them it is the logical first step of many before the elves can go back to Fearun (in a few centuries), the world or some part of it will be hospitable to High Mages. The only thing stopping them is the question of the where they want to plant it. Also, the old Anauroch book, in the Phaerimm section (page25) it is stated that players in the Buried Realms region (ruled by the Paherimms) should make a saving throw every turn to resist the charms or suggestions of the Phaerimm. My question is what are the Buried Realms? Is it Anauroch or just the Sword region or some part of the Sword or something else? Thanks! |

Granted, I am still reading it and haven't finished, but the Tree of Souls is mentioned and detailed (yes, you may already know this). "What ever happened to the Tree of Souls" may be a better bet for your campaign than simply looking to plant it. Spend 10 levels finding it, then 5 looking to plant it, then 5 or so more growing it.... As for the buried realms, I believe these are supposed to be the old Elven crypts that exist outside of Evereska and that are buried in the Anauroch. As always, LK would be the expert on the elves. Except when it comes to evolution...and stuff. ![]() |

| #5lord_karsusJan 15, 2009 17:43:17 | Is the Elves of Faerun a official WotC product? -No. It is a fan-project, which means that it bypasses all of the politics and such that happen in and with official products. And can anybody give around which year the Tree of Soul was planted. Is 1375 a good bet? -1,380 DR. |
| #6JudgeDookieJan 15, 2009 20:02:00 | Canon sux, dude. Simply, 'cause canon ain't canon half the time. ![]() |
| #7lord_karsusJan 15, 2009 20:19:13 | Politics? What do mean? -As in, "Well, in this source here, it says XYZ. Accidentally, intentionally, whatever, it says ABC in this source. So and so likes ABC better, so let's go with ABC from now on." I found the Tree of Souls in the Elves of Faerun netbook. Why am I under the impression that two Trees exist? The one that was planted in Myth Drannor and another one still in possession of Prince Lamuril. -The one in the possession of Prince Lamruil is the one in Myth Drannor. Note, Prince Lamruil's realm was devastated in 1,373 DR. Afterward, Lamruil returned the Tree of Souls to Evermeet, and began looking for his consort, Maura, who disappeared in the assault. The Elven Crusade brought the sapling with it to Myth Drannor in 1,374 DR, and at some point between 1,374 DR and 1,380 DR (when Ilsevele Miritar was crowned Coronal), the Tree of Souls was planted in Myth Drannor. |
| #8kaelenselunelJan 15, 2009 20:32:03 | Hmm, I thought Ilsevele was officially crowned in 1377 (though I could be wrong), and that 1380 was when Araevin finished repairing Myth Drannor's mythal and left the city. Of course, that's rather off-topic I suppose. I wasn't aware that the tree in Myth Drannor was the same one that Lamruil had taken with him previously, and had actually thought it to be a separate tree. |
| #9lord_karsusJan 15, 2009 20:40:09 | -I don't have AGHotR nearby. Let me go get it... -Yes, it was 1,377 DR. Until AGHotR was released, we knew only that, at some point between 1,374 DR and 1,380 DR the Srinshee returned to Myth Drannor and granted Ilsevele the Crownblade, making her Coronal of Myth Drannor. |

I imagine that's why it is called The Tree of Souls, rather than A Tree of Souls. Just an observation. But, BTW, isn't The Tree of Souls supposed to be planted in a place of elven refuge LK? |
| #11lord_karsusJan 15, 2009 20:46:47 | But, BTW, isn't The Tree of Souls supposed to be planted in a place of elven refuge LK? -It's a long story. To make sum up as much as possible: Yes, yes it was. It wasn't mentioned since Evermeet: Island of the Elves. In Final Gate, Rich Baker mistakenly believed that it had been planted on Evermeet, and included what seemed like a sapling from that tree. The problem was, it wasn't. So, Auseriel (Lamruil's realm in the north) was created in AGHotR, and then destroyed in AGHotR half a page later. This let the Tree of Souls go from Auseriel back to Evermeet. And then, by 1,374 DR, it made it's way to Myth Drannor when the Elven Crusade reclaimed the city, and was planted there at some point afterward. Note, Myth Drannor could be considered an Elven refuge if you want to stretch the meaning of 'refuge' a little. |
| #12JudgeDookieJan 15, 2009 20:51:13 | Note, Myth Drannor could be considered an Elven refuge if you want to stretch the meaning of 'refuge' a little. Um...no. Thank you very much, I don't. This is lame. Thank Bejebuz the dwarves don't have a detailed history--I can't imagine anything as frucked up as the history of the elves. ![]() |
| #13hanali-in-loveJan 15, 2009 22:22:28 | Um...no. Thank you very much, I don't. Actually, the history of the elves was just fine until 4'th edition came along and the game designers dropped a massive retcon on all things elven. ![]() |
| #14kaelenselunelJan 16, 2009 6:31:17 | I imagine that's why it is called The Tree of Souls, rather than A Tree of Souls. Heh, good point. It was a while since I read any of those entries, though, and I was just going off of memory. For some reason the mention of the Tree of Souls didn't click with my memory of Lamruil's realm. And yeah, it was the cutting I was thinking of. That's why it didn't click. |
| #15kerym_ammathJan 16, 2009 8:46:55 | Actually, the history of the elves was just fine until 4'th edition came along and the game designers dropped a massive retcon on all things elven. Actually that all occured in the 3.x days. |
| #16lord_karsusJan 16, 2009 11:12:55 | Actually, the history of the elves was just fine until 4'th edition came along and the game designers dropped a massive retcon on all things elven. -Asides for splitting them into 'Elves' and 'Eladrin', nothing has really changed. Their history up until the present has stayed the same as it always was. |

The one that was planted in Myth Drannor and another one still in possession of Prince Lamuril. Here we go again... ![]() The Tree of Souls was a unique tree which could only be planted ONCE, and then it was dug-up and moved elsewhere. Yes... I'm serious. I'm assuming some sort of epic journey deep into the Positive plane to retrieve the Shovel of Obad-Hai - an incredibly powerful artifact that has the abiity to move any form of vegatation from one locale to another. :P Or you could just say that the tree never fully 'took root' in it's new home... because it knew it wasn't planted in the right place. But that would undermine Elaine's creation - which I am loathe to do. |

Their history up until the present has stayed the same as it always was. Seeing how we are still in debate on 3e Eleven lore, I would say this-that-those are wrong. Which makes you… Actually that all occured in the 3.x days. …partially correct. Mrtyl! Where the hell is my tea! ![]() Heh, good point. Well, young man. That, indeed, is why I made it. ![]() And yeah, it was the cutting I was thinking of. That's why it didn't click. Um, no. Anybody that cuts The Tree of Souls needs to be immediately annihilated are sucked into the tree itself. It needs to be uprooted. |
| #19lord_karsusJan 17, 2009 11:51:51 | -Agreed. That the Tree of Souls can be 'cut', to make new saplings, or that it produces seeds takes away from it. |
| #20kerym_ammathJan 18, 2009 9:48:04 | …partially correct. Lets see it all came about in 1374DR. The Spellplague occurs in 1385DR. 4th edition begins in 1479DR. No sorry it is something that happened in the 3.x days. The coming of 4th edition did not somehow mysteriously make the error occur. I am less than happy that the tree got planted in Myth Drannor, and even more annoyed with the whole second tree controversy. I will deal and move on, but when we are discussing which edition owns this mistake there really is no argument, all of this did in fact occur in 3.x products. (Last Mythal Series, and AGHotR.) |
| #21kaelenselunelJan 18, 2009 18:50:53 | -Agreed. That the Tree of Souls can be 'cut', to make new saplings, or that it produces seeds takes away from it. Oh, I absolutely agree. But at the time of reading that trilogy i knew less about the Tree of Souls, so for some reason I didn't link the sapling or whatever it was in the book (it's been a while since I've read it) to the actual Tree from the earlier story. |
