Nov 29, 2009 12:56:18 I am currently running a campaign that is based in 4.0 Calimshan, and there are a few things I would like to know. Does anyone have any new information on the Twisted Rune beyond what is stated in the 4.0 FR campaign guide, and lords of darkness? Also, the campaign will involve the return of the Shoon Imperium. Under NecroQysar Shoon VII's writeup in Lost Empires of Faerun, and Dragons of Faerun it says that he is keeping a low profile and checking up on his rivals in the Twisted Rune. Does anyone know the history behind this? Or who in particular are his rivals in the rune, and why? Any info is vastly appreciated!

Nov 29, 2009 13:25:58 I couldnt really say on who is rivals are, I would assume it might mean that his rivals in the TR might be all of said orginization .

and no, there is no new info other that wahts in the current books.....

you could go ask Ed Greenwood either at candlekeep, or at loremaster this though.

Dec 10, 2009 8:43:38 I'm currently running a campaign in the Lands of Intrigue, focusing heavily on the Twisted Rune / Shoon VII, so I did quite a lot of research on the topic.

From what I know, the TR hasn't been officially developped in 4th edition so far, but there are some interesting plotlines left hanging.

For example, Priamon was captured by Halaster who also possessed his philactery, prior to the Spellplague. With Halaster dead and Undermountain destroyed, Priamon could have escaped, or he could have been trapped under tons of rock. Either way, he could make a great ally / pawn for Shoon and is probably bent on revenge against Sapphiraktar (assuming he knows her role in his demise), or the whole Twisted Rune.

Dec 15, 2009 17:47:10 -Given who the Twisted Rune is made up of, and given what they do, odds are that they continue plotting and such during the Post-Spellplague Era. It's not as if groups like this do not plan for cataclysm and the like.

Dec 15, 2009 21:12:45 I would agree with LK. There is no reason to believe the good old Rune ain't around in 4E. Or all that different from the previous editions

I wasn't aware that priamon was captured by Halaster. I knew that Priamon had captured him, but not vice versa. Also, what part did Saphirakktar play?

The only thing that led me to believe the rune had changed from previous editions was the sidebar on them in the new campaign guide, saying that their leader wore a perverted symbol of Kelemvor. I understand that Kelemvor is the enemy of all undead, and they are a powerful undead group, so I get the meaning if the leader means it as a taunt, but I've done a lot of research on the rune, and never found anything about this in previous lore.

So, any info on the rune, or Shoon VII, or speculations on what the perverted symbol of Kelemvor means would be very helpful.

-He was left in the "care" of Halaster at the end of Blackstaff.

But as far as the Twisted Rune itself goes, they are directly inimical to his designs on Calimshan and Tethyr, as they are a secret cabal of powerful spellcasters who could offer a great challenge to his plots. I wouldn't say that any particular member of the group is his rival or that some are his allies, but rather the group's very existence is a threat to his intent to resurrect the Imperium.
