| #1phelf_der_zemitAug 12, 2008 11:41:50 | Probably spelled wrong but hey.. it's what I do. So in the Realms what nations are run by a theocracy? I know alot of the leaders of nations have leaders who have spiritual guidance, or the church just has alot of influince, but I'm thinking of where the church is the law. The head of the Church is always the head of the Nation, and vicaversa. I'm having trouble thinking of one entire nation that is run by the church. Postspellplague thismight be easier, like Vassa. But I'm drawing a blank else where. Thank you in advance. |

I am a great lover of theocracies. There are some others, here and there, scattered throughout the Realms. Although I would say those are the big two that first come to my mind. |
| #3lord_karsusAug 12, 2008 11:59:35 | -For a world in which religion is so powerful, there really aren't too many theocracies. Mezro was a theocracy, in that the Barae were in charge. The Lolthite Drow, of course, have a massive theocracy. |
| #4markustay63Aug 12, 2008 15:03:49 | Impiltur is not a true Theocracy, but the Knights of the Triad do pretty much run things there. |
| #5phelf_der_zemitAug 12, 2008 17:28:31 | I feel a little stupid for missing the drow society. It seems blatantly obviouse now. Just out of curiosity, who does Mulhorand follow? |
| #6lord_karsusAug 12, 2008 17:52:53 | Just out of curiosity, who does Mulhorand follow? -The Mulhorandi pantheon. The Pharaoh of Mulhorandi is supposed to be the mortal incarnation of the leader of the Mulhorandi pantheon (Who was it? Horus-Ra?). |
| #7meldreadAug 12, 2008 17:53:03 | They followED Horus-Re. Mulhorand seems to be gone now with 4th Edition, all with all the Mulhorandi gods. The entire nation was more-or-less run by the Church of Horus-Re with the other Mulhorandi deities churches filling in certain niches. It was very lawful and very orderly. The Pharaoh was a Paladin of Horus-Re. |
| #8meldreadAug 12, 2008 17:55:33 | No, after the Time of Troubles Horus-Re and the other deities that walked the Realms in mortal form since Imaskar ascended into divine realms. Ao allowed them to do this. However, there are a great number of people in Mulhorand descended from the deities that once lived there. The same was true in Unther, for the Untheric deities. |
| #9leirilAug 13, 2008 10:05:11 | Minsorran in Amn was a Theocracy (see Lands of Intrigue, Book II). It was at the coast of Lake Weng. There were 4 Cities with different Gods (Shar, Mystra, Selune, Lathander). They started to settle there somewhat around 300 DR and were destroyed through a White Wyrm and harsh winter storms in 600 DR (Year of Fire and Frost). Whats about Evermeet? It is not a real priest or something like that, but then Amlauril is a Chosen of the (no longer existing, and never had existed) Seldarine with this kind of phone to the gods. So she would be a more direkt link to the gods, than some pope in rome. |

She doesn't really justify her rule by claiming any kind of divine mandate or anything, nor does she, when she makes rulings, take into account the Seldarine, in so much as she rules based on the wants and needs of the Elven people, not of the Seldarine, though usually the two match. |
| #11BadCatManAug 13, 2008 19:46:15 | Mourktar in Chessenta is ruled directly by the Banites, after they seized power following the abdication of King Theris. Also in Chessenta, Luthcheq is ruled by the Karanok family, but they are practically synonymous with the Cult of Entropy. |
| #12leirilAug 14, 2008 11:28:37 | If Asmodeus is now a god, would that mean, that a culture ruled by devils and there underlings (like stupid wizards with my nice profile pictures help) could also be some kind ot Theocracy? ![]() |
