Three Superficial Questions About Genasi

Aug 21, 2008 15:30:09 So we're currently playing KotS, and I'm making some backup character in case my eladrin wizard should meet a grisly end this week during the game.

I decided to make both a Tiefling Paladin and a Genasi Warlord.

But I haven't gotten to take a look at the FRCG yet, so I had a few questions.

Are there any pictures or descriptions of how A Genasi looks in the FRCG?

And if so, can someone give me a quick description?

I figure they probably look something like they did in 3E, considering how relatively out there Dragonborn and Tieflings look now. But I wanna know for sure.

And also, are their any examples of Genasi names, and could someone post a couple?

And are all Genasi now from Returned Abeir, or are their still Genasi with heritage on Toril?

Aug 21, 2008 15:34:35 I dunno about the 'look', but consider how a Genasi of various types have been depicted, so far as physiology goes, in prior editions. I'm assuming that they're still elementally-infused humanoids, at heart. What I don't know as of now is if they're now one single race touched unilaterally by the Elemental Chaos itself, or still divided among the classic four elements.

So far as the motifs go, well, in FR, seems the Genasi are most prevalent in, among other places, Calimshan, which has always had something of a middle-eastern reminiscence. Some kind of Arabian style both in appearance and name probably wouldn't be off the mark.

Aug 21, 2008 15:39:17 There is little info about genasi as a race in the book. I don't believe there is a pic. We have to wait to see if they even have air genasi, fire genasi, etc

Yeah, thats what I'm using for crunch. But I just need some fluff so I can kinda flesh the guy out in my mind.

-The Genasi that existed before all of this 'Returned-Abeir' stuff still exist. For the sake of simplicity, I'd say their stats are the same as the ones from 'Returned-Abeir', just like "old" Tieflings are statistically the same as "New' Tieflings.

Yeah, I knew the stats would be the same. I just didn't know if the old Genasi would be retconned out or not. Like I figure the old dragonborn were.

-I don't believe the old Dragonborn have been retconned out. They're just (A) not being talked about and, (B) statistically, they'll be something other than D&D Dragonborn.

They've got some pretty reasonable difference, if you haven't seen their stats yet. I was pleasantly surprised with the way they turned out.

Aug 21, 2008 22:31:19 -That, I'm not sure about. I do recall hearing something along those lines, however. Genasi with the 'Fireborn' ability, thus making them Fire Genasi. Genasi with the 'Waterborn' ability, thus making them Water Genasi. And so on.

Aug 21, 2008 22:36:27 Yep. A Genasi character selects their manifestation at creation. The manifestations are: Earthsoul, Firesoul, Stormsoul, Watersoul, and Windsoul. That choice then gives you a suite of racial abilities that make you different from Genasi with other manifestations. Windsoul Genasi, for instance, gain Resist 5 Cold and Windwalker (Encounter Power that lets them fly 8 squares as a Move Action), while Earthsoul Genasi gain +1 to Fort Defense, +1 to Saving Throws, and Earthshock (Encounter Power that causes a tremor in the ground around you, knocking opponents to the ground).

There's also a Feat that lets you have more than one manifestation. I don't remember where I heard it, but apparently that's something that's common amongst the Genasi from Akanul. So the basic idea is this: Genasi which originated in Faerun are always one Manifestation, whereas the Genasi from Abeir could have more than one.
