| #1askanipsionJun 15, 2008 14:35:07 | Have there been any FR novels dealing with Tiamat in anyway? Thanks to anyone who can give me some info! :D |
| #2JudgeDookieJun 15, 2008 14:36:06 | Nada. |
| #3askanipsionJun 15, 2008 14:39:08 | Nada. too bad...would have made sense if she was involved in the Year of the Dragon storyline...oh well Thanks for the help! |
| #4JudgeDookieJun 15, 2008 14:51:54 | Would have made sense if she was in a lot of storyline's lately. As is, she always seems to be a side note in the Realms. Hopefully that changes in 4e. Else I be bugged. ![]() |
| #5askanipsionJun 15, 2008 16:07:43 | Would have made sense if she was in a lot of storyline's lately. As is, she always seems to be a side note in the Realms. Hopefully now since she is more Core - she will be more active in the books. Though we don't really know her status in FR4e. |
| #6rinonalyrna_fathomlinJun 15, 2008 17:10:23 | The Alabaster Staff involves followers of Tiamat in Unther. |
| #7JudgeDookieJun 15, 2008 17:15:43 | Is it an in depth novel concerning Tiamat? BTW: Are you happy with your face one someone else? |
| #8askanipsionJun 15, 2008 18:17:53 | The Alabaster Staff involves followers of Tiamat in Unther. Thanks for the info! - I will pick it up and add it to the stack of Realms books I still need to read ![]() |
| #9lord_karsusJun 15, 2008 18:39:00 | -Given that she was active in Unther, and Unther is being replaced with Tymanther- which is filled with Dragonborn- it makes you wonder if, perhaps, she was involved somehow. Too many coincidences... |
| #10JudgeDookieJun 15, 2008 18:40:49 | -Given that she was active in Unther, and Unther is being replaced with Tymanther- which is filled with Dragonborn- it makes you wonder if, perhaps, she was involved somehow. Too many coincidences... No ? |
| #11lord_karsusJun 15, 2008 18:42:37 | -My, someone's testy. |
| #12askanipsionJun 15, 2008 18:45:57 | -Given that she was active in Unther, and Unther is being replaced with Tymanther- which is filled with Dragonborn- it makes you wonder if, perhaps, she was involved somehow. Too many coincidences... I was thinking of playing a Warlock with an Infernal Pact with Tiamat in my new 4E campaign. We are also going to have a Dragonborn Warlord who feels he has been let down by Bahamut......maybe my Warlock can sway him to serve the Dark Lady ![]() Since the FR campaign book is not out yet, it is really hard to create a new campaign in Faerun since the status of everything is so up in the air. They really should release the FR books in July. |
| #13lord_karsusJun 15, 2008 18:49:48 | Since the FR campaign book is not out yet, it is really hard to create a new campaign in Faerun since the status of everything is so up in the air. They really should release the FR books in July. -The Forgotten Realms and Eberron books both should have been released with the Core books, in my opinion. |
| #14askanipsionJun 15, 2008 18:55:07 | -The Forgotten Realms and Eberron books both should have been released with the Core books, in my opinion. I totally agree - now my DM is starting us right after the Spellplague as we don't know how affected each area will be in the aftermath. Of course they should also have released evil diety Channel Divinity feats too so the DM can at least make evil cleric NPCs. |
| #15JudgeDookieJun 15, 2008 19:02:10 | -My, someone's testy. Not really. You and I have been through this a couple times, so I figured I could get away with throwing out some frustration. I’ll take it back if you really want me to. Since the FR campaign book is not out yet, it is really hard to create a new campaign in Faerun since the status of everything is so up in the air. They really should release the FR books in July. While I understand that there are a lot of people wanting to play 4e campaigns, I just don’t understand why people can’t wait. Not even a few months? Can’t start it out in 3e and transfer to 4e? And I agree, FRCG should have came out with the core books. |
| #16rinonalyrna_fathomlinJun 15, 2008 19:03:03 | Is it an in depth novel concerning Tiamat? Is it all about Tiamat? No. However, one of the major characters is a high priestess of Tiamat. It's been a while since I've read that book, but I wouldn't say Tiamat's presence in the book (through her followers) is trivial. BTW: Are you happy with your face one someone else? LOL. I'm mostly indifferent to it. ![]() |
| #17rinonalyrna_fathomlinJun 15, 2008 19:03:42 | Thanks for the info! - I will pick it up and add it to the stack of Realms books I still need to read You're welcome. ![]() |
| #18JudgeDookieJun 15, 2008 19:07:51 | ...but I wouldn't say Tiamat's presence in the book (through her followers) is trivial. Thats what I was getting at. Tiamat is a back of the shelf deity. LOL. I'm mostly indifferent to it. Alright. But you were warned. ![]() |
| #19rinonalyrna_fathomlinJun 15, 2008 19:10:21 | Thats what I was getting at. Tiamat is a back of the shelf deity. Not in that novel, though. ![]() Alright. But you were warned. There are so many avatars to choose from here that none of them, as far as I can tell, have become ubiquitous. Therefore, I don't think there is any danger of being inundated with Sune avatars. ![]() |
| #20askanipsionJun 15, 2008 19:13:10 | While I understand that there are a lot of people wanting to play 4e campaigns, I just don’t understand why people can’t wait. Not even a few months? Can’t start it out in 3e and transfer to 4e? Because alot of stuff in 3.5 can't easily be transferred to 4e such as Psionics or alot of the 3.5 spells. Why go through all that hard working and then not being able to do it in 4e? Some people want to try out the new Dragonborn. What if you make a cleric of Shar and she ends up being dead in the new 4E FR rules....just some examples. Plus alot of the countries such as Thay and Rashemen will be totally different post-Spell plague. 4E is like getting a new Christmas toy but getting no batteries for FR fans ![]() |
| #21askanipsionJun 15, 2008 19:16:22 | Not in that novel, though. Cool the Dark Lady has always been one of my favorite deities next to Lolth. I will have to read the book after I get done with "Ascendancy of the Last". I always thought Tiamat should have more of an impact in Faerun...hopefully in 4E she will. I don't know why Tracy Hickman just wouldn't admit that Takhisis was just an aspect of Tiamat....the fans know it ![]() Too bad they had to ruin Dragonlance by killing Takhisis. |
| #22rinonalyrna_fathomlinJun 15, 2008 19:19:27 | Well, if nothing else, Tiamat is a major deity in the 4E core pantheon.![]() |
| #23entombmentofamachineJun 15, 2008 19:19:35 | Too bad they had to ruin Dragonlance by killing Takhisis. The thing I learned is, DL is about weaklings struggling to survive in misery. While FR is about some hero trying to be as badass as he/she can be. *Note*: This is not putting DL down, it's just a style of preference. Some people perfer to read about Drizzt dealing with these small time epic sword battles with orcs while others enjoy reading of Cale trying to take down a God and escaping a arch devil. |
| #24JudgeDookieJun 15, 2008 19:23:50 | Not in that novel, though. Whoa. Whoa. Read you backwards with the word "trivial." Got ya. There are so many avatars to choose from here that none of them, as far as I can tell, have become ubiquitous. Therefore, I don't there here is any danger of being inundated with Sune avatars. Alright, SunesKisses. Whatever you say. ![]() Because alot of stuff in 3.5 can't easily be transferred to 4e such as Psionics or alot of the 3.5 spells. What if you make a cleric of Shar and she ends up being dead in the new 4E FR rules....just some examples. I got ya. I do. But then again, I have to whip it out: SPELLPLAGUE!!! :D |
| #25merrikcaleJun 16, 2008 13:58:29 | Well, if nothing else, Tiamat is a major deity in the 4E core pantheon. Thats what I hear |
| #26lord_karsusJun 16, 2008 14:32:17 | Thats what I hear -In 3e Core, Tiamat wasn't even a deity. Tiamat was a creature that guarded some entrance to somewhere in the Abyss. |
| #27merrikcaleJun 16, 2008 14:35:47 | -In 3e Core, Tiamat wasn't even a deity. Tiamat was a creature that guarded some entrance to somewhere in the Abyss. I like Tiamat and Bahamut as deities that cross racial divides (in the Core setting) |
| #28lord_karsusJun 16, 2008 14:37:47 | -I like them better as deities, too. |
| #29merrikcaleJun 17, 2008 20:11:30 | I like paladins of Bahamut and using the dragon god for the God of Justice |
| #30askanipsionJun 17, 2008 21:07:00 | I like Tiamat as a deity also. It would be cool if in 4E she tried spreading her faith into Kara-Tur. |
| #31suin_bahhar_02Jun 18, 2008 18:52:54 | The Shou are dealing with the mulhorandi already. If the emissionairies travel a bit further they might come into contact with the church of Tiamat in Unther and turn out as a good ally for the troubled country! Thanks for giving me this idea for in my Chessentan intrigue campaign. Enter the Dragon, firebreathing monks with flaming burst nunchaku's and red dragon samurai. Hai! |
| #32GreenKnightJun 18, 2008 21:25:07 | I like Tiamat and Bahamut as deities that cross racial divides (in the Core setting) Me too. I really like how they've expanded the both of them and made them core gods. I especially love the idea of them being worshipped by multiple races. I imagine they appear differently to each race, too. To dragons, for instance, Bahamut appears as a massive platinum dragon. To humans and dwarves, he appears as a human or dwarf knight with platinum white hair and beard, and platinum armor. To Air Genasi, he appears as a gigantic, swirling air elemental. And so on. I love that. Glad to see both he and Tiamat have finally gotten their due in core D&D. |

| #34GreenKnightJun 18, 2008 21:38:59 | I was talking about the core setting, not the Realms (though my mention of Air Genasi probably sent mixed signals). I do want to see them elevated to Lesser Gods in the Realms, though. |

I do want to see them elevated to Lesser Gods in the Realms, though. OK I'm not sure how I feel about them as gods in the FR. Perhaps having them be intermediate or even greater deities wouldn't be so bad |
| #36GreenKnightJun 18, 2008 21:55:18 | Well, they already are gods in the Forgotten Realms. They've been around for years, now. They just haven't been anywhere near the forefront. As for rank, I prefer Lesser. Bahamut, for instance, has only recently regained his divinity in the Realms, so he shouldn't be that powerful. The influx of Dragonborn and the spread of his worship among the humans of Impiltur is pretty much what boosted him up. He shouldn't be the same as he is in core, though (Especially seeing as how, in core, he's the God of Justice, Honor, and Protection. And in the Realms, Torm should be the God of Justice and Protection ;) ). IMO, Bahamut should become a Lesser God in the service of Torm while Tiamat becomes a Lesser God in the service of Bane. |
| #37merrikcaleJun 19, 2008 7:39:51 | IMO, Bahamut should become a Lesser God in the service of Torm while Tiamat becomes a Lesser God in the service of Bane. Those aren't bad ideas. |
| #38rinonalyrna_fathomlinJun 19, 2008 9:46:46 | Me too. I really like how they've expanded the both of them and made them core gods. I especially love the idea of them being worshipped by multiple races. Agreed, and I'll go a step further and say I like how all the deities in the core setting are worshipped by multiple races. ![]() |
| #39merrikcaleJun 19, 2008 15:26:04 | Agreed, and I'll go a step further and say I like how all the deities in the core setting are worshipped by multiple races. Me too. We seem to have similar tastes on this stuff Rhee |
| #40askanipsionJun 19, 2008 22:41:03 | I am curious to see what Tiamat will be up to in 4E since they said Unther is gone and the Dragonborn have arrived where it used to be. Would be cool if Tiamat recreated the city with Dragonborn as worshippers. I don't see Tiamat though serving under any other deity - since I am sure the Nine Hells were barely affected by the Weave destruction, I am sure her area of control in Hell is the same. Bahamut I would actually like to see take Tyr's place. I like Bahamut as the deity of paladins. Tyr always seemed boring to me. Maybe Tiamat can be the new Goddess of War to take Tempus' place. |
| #41GreenKnightJun 19, 2008 22:55:38 | Well, Torm's already taken Tyr's place, so Bahamut isn't gonna hopscotch his way into that post, either. :P I like Bahamut a whole lot, but when it comes to the Realms, I like Torm more. Nice to see the guy finally getting his due. ;) As for Tiamat, I can see her doing so. Especially if Bahamut allies himself to more powerful Realms gods as well. And with the changes to the cosmology, would Tiamat even be able to call the Nine Hells home? Possibly not. It'll likely be the sole domain of Asmodeus and his devils. In which case Tiamat will need a deific home in the Astral Sea. So unless she's a Greater God in the 4E Realms, she won't be able to create her own domain in the Astra Sea, and she'll have to ally herself with a Greater God. |
| #42askanipsionJun 19, 2008 23:23:06 | Tiamat becomes a Lesser God in the service of Bane. Hmm I don't know if Bane and Tiamat would get along at all.....they both have control issues. :D Has there been any 4E FR mention of Tiamat at all? |
| #43rauricJun 19, 2008 23:31:31 | I think Tiamat will get a big "push" in 4E FR as will Set. Just a hunch. |
| #44askanipsionJun 19, 2008 23:42:33 | I think Tiamat will get a big "push" in 4E FR as will Set. Just a hunch. I am guessing Set will be the Zehir of the Realms with all the yuan-ti as followers. It will be interesting to see what the Yuan-ti do now that the psionic ruins of Jhaamdath have been uncovered. Since the Dragonborn will be in Unther...where are the Tieflings going to be? Thay? Is Tiamat in the Nine Hells in 4E Core or in the Astral Sea? |
| #45suin_bahhar_02Jun 20, 2008 7:16:23 | Some interesting points there Askani. The whole psionic angle of the Yuanti always felt good storywise. I envision them having used psionics as a sort of arms race against magic. That would lead to them getting a real edge right after the Spellplague. The Jhaamdathi artifects should not fall into their scaly hands... Wonder how fast the Sea of Fallen Stars gets drained. Set will have to hope his chained namesake will stay so during the Spellplague because those bonds might be weakened by it. If he gets to rule over the Mulhorandi things might get rather big for Set. He'll need some exarchs to atleast hadle some of his affairs on Torils prime... Tieflings are likely to be prominent in Vaasa and Narfell, and Raumathari might be their ancestors. Or perhaps they will use Hellgate Keep of the High Forest to leak in some Tieflings. |
| #46merrikcaleJun 20, 2008 9:07:45 | I think Tiamat will get a big "push" in 4E FR as will Set. Just a hunch. I agree about Tiamat. I think Set my go bye bye. Just my hunch |

| #51askanipsionJun 21, 2008 0:48:47 | -Wonder how that'll be handled, Psionics...? Uncovering of the Jhaamdath ruins will be a great way for Psionics to gain prominence in Faerun in 4E. It is quite possible that maybe the Spellplague didn't affect Psioncs at all. |
| #52lord_karsusJun 21, 2008 0:52:32 | -Yes, which is why I am posing the rhetorical question. ;) |
| #53merrikcaleJun 21, 2008 15:44:51 | Uncovering of the Jhaamdath ruins will be a great way for Psionics to gain prominence in Faerun in 4E. It is quite possible that maybe the Spellplague didn't affect Psioncs at all. It certainly doesn'y have to. I suppose it would depend on how different the system is. Although its so rarely used in official products they could just say "this is how it always was" in 4E even if its completely different |
| #54lord_karsusJun 27, 2008 13:31:26 | It certainly doesn'y have to. I suppose it would depend on how different the system is. | #55nymrohdJun 27, 2008 13:33:56 | I do wonder, was there any foreknowledge of Tymanther when Dragons of Faerun was written? Or is it unlikely? |
| #56lord_karsusJun 27, 2008 13:36:54 | I do wonder, was there any foreknowledge of Tymanther when Dragons of Faerun was written? Or is it unlikely? -Dragons of Faerûn was published when? I ask because it was revealed that work for the 4e stuff began about two years ago (circa '05-'06). So, in theory, basic ideas could have been present. |
| #57nymrohdJun 27, 2008 13:38:16 | First Printing, August 2006 |
| #58lord_karsusJun 27, 2008 13:46:36 | First Printing, August 2006 -Alright. It's likely, then, that some people might have had some idea that have been incorporated into the 4-Gotten Realms at this point in time. The authors/editors/contributors of this book might not have been in that group, though. You could ask Eytan, as he's usually floating around here, somewhere. |
| #59merrikcaleJun 28, 2008 10:30:24 | True. Plus, they have nbeen kicking around 4e since 2004 I think. They say something to that effect in the preview books |
| #60lord_karsusJun 29, 2008 21:43:21 | True. Plus, they have nbeen kicking around 4e since 2004 I think. They say something to that effect in the preview books -Really? That's even earlier than I was attributing to them. As has been alluded to, it'd be interesting to know just when exactly they began subtlely preparing for the transition. |

I was a surprised as anyone last Gen Con when the announcement came out for 4e. I had no inkling of it when I wrote DoF, though I can't speak for Eric (I doubt he did either, however). That said, I am heartened that threads from the book seem to have been picked up in the 4e Realms. I've only seen a small amount of what's been developed for the Realms in 4e, but so far, I am really encouraged. |

| #65merrikcaleJul 01, 2008 11:57:43 | Dragons of Faerun was one of the better 3.5 FR books |
| #66lord_karsusJul 01, 2008 11:59:41 | Dragons of Faerun was one of the better 3.5 FR books -Meh, I like Eytan a lot, so I wouldn't speak out on the book to begin with. :D |
| #67merrikcaleJul 03, 2008 21:47:27 | -Meh, I like Eytan a lot, so I wouldn't speak out on the book to begin with. :D His articles on the classes for the FR are some of the best on the Wizards site. |

| #69askanipsionJul 04, 2008 20:19:11 | I hoping there would be more previews for the new FR rules. It would be nice to at least see a list of gods so people who are making clerics/paladins for 4E at least know if their god is still alive. Eytan Bernstein - have you seen if Tiamat is going to be a Greater Goddess for 4E? :D |
| #70EytanBernsteinJul 07, 2008 10:29:24 | I hoping there would be more previews for the new FR rules. Nope. I'm more abreast of the mechanics developments than the story ones. |

| #73lord_karsusJul 09, 2008 19:32:05 | -They've certainly been (seemingly) gearing up for it. |
| #74askanipsionJul 09, 2008 22:01:11 | I would like to see Tiamat working her way into the Dragonborn empire. |
| #75lord_karsusJul 09, 2008 22:12:02 | I would like to see Tiamat working her way into the Dragonborn empire. -For those evil Dragonborn that exist, I'm sure that Tiamat will be appealing. |
| #76xhereticxJul 10, 2008 9:31:02 | Cool the Dark Lady has always been one of my favorite deities next to Lolth. I will have to read the book after I get done with "Ascendancy of the Last". Apparently we have similar tastes, cause those two deities are up there among my favorite deities as well. That's why I eventually stopped following Dragonlance. After they got rid of Paladine and Takhisis and the whole Mina issue was resolved, I felt like things were just going to get boring from there. |
| #77askanipsionJul 11, 2008 16:59:18 | Apparently we have similar tastes, cause those two deities are up there among my favorite deities as well. Yeah without Takhisis, it just felt there was no BIG bad guy(girl). The whole feel of Dragonlance revolves around Paladine & Takhisis' eternal fight. Lets face it...the other Dragonlance gods never did anything. |
| #78xhereticxJul 11, 2008 19:37:58 | Yeah without Takhisis, it just felt there was no BIG bad guy(girl). The whole feel of Dragonlance revolves around Paladine & Takhisis' eternal fight. Well, Hiddukel is the main bad guy in Taladas and gods like Morgion and Sargonnas certainly have caused some havoc in the past so I woudn't say nothing. I just think that removing the two deities that have been the very heart and soul of a setting kind of eliminates its purpose. Kind of like removing the Weave and Mystra in the Forgotten Realms, except I don't recall the DL fans getting as upset about it. |

| #80xhereticxJul 12, 2008 22:32:40 | I think by the time all that stuff happened, alot of fans had moved on already. Yep, though I am consitering reading Dragons of Highlord Skies just for old times sake. DL or no DL, Margaret Weis is still one of my all-time favorite authors. |
| #81lord_karsusJul 17, 2008 18:27:19 | -Back to Tiamat... -It's interesting that she's making a resurgence (being a part of the Untheric Pantheon) at a time when Unther is disappearing. |
| #82askanipsionJul 17, 2008 20:30:30 | -Back to Tiamat... She may have lost some followers in the destruction of Unther but she picked up a big following with the new Dragonborn. :D Oddly her new updated Holy Symbol looks like a shuriken. ;) |
| #83lord_karsusJul 17, 2008 20:37:32 | She may have lost some followers in the destruction of Unther but she picked up a big following with the new Dragonborn. :D -I was under the assumption that the majority of them did not worship Tiamat, or any other Draconic deities. Oddly her new updated Holy Symbol looks like a shuriken. ;) -Mind you, it isn't necessarily Forgotten Realms canon. |

| #87lord_karsusJul 21, 2008 11:40:34 | -Right. |
| #88suin_bahhar_02Jul 21, 2008 12:29:55 | I would like to see Tiamat's clergy still strong as the ruler in an Untheric region. But alass that area will be a useless changeland. |

| #91askanipsionJul 26, 2008 22:30:19 | -Unther is going to be Tymanther, now. Chessenta is still supposed to be around. Will be interesting to see how they deal with the new Dragonborn empire. Bahumut might start hanging around the area too. |
| #92darth_azalinJul 27, 2008 10:33:17 | Tiamat is known as Tchazzar in the nation of Cherssenta. Bahamut = Xymor and Null = Faluzure. I know the above are "Chosen" but if you read the Cult of the Dragon game accessory (2.0) it would state what I did above. Then read the Dragons of Faerun campaign accessory for more details on the church and such. |

| #94GreenKnightJul 28, 2008 10:04:54 | I'm positive. ![]() :P |
| #95lord_karsusJul 29, 2008 0:49:44 | Tiamat is known as Tchazzar in the nation of Cherssenta. -Tchazzar =/= Tiamat. |
