I've cherry-picked through the book twice not but don't seem to see a single mention of a Tiefling anywhere. Am I missing something?

The Loudwater section mentions that Lady Moonfire fancies Tieflings. IIRC ;)

Also, the guide lists Narfell as having strong tiefling bloodlines and many tieflings occupying positions of power among the nomads. If you have read the wizards excerpt on the tiefling empire of Askhosia, the ruins could easily be placed in Narfell as they have its history rich in tiefling pacts with demons.

Thanks I missed that. I'll put Narfell on my 3rd cherry-picking go around tonight.

Yes ... if only they had noted that nigh to no tiefling was seen there in AD&D and 3E FR, despite 1,500 years of FR history in that region since the fall of Narfell.

I mean, I can accept that regions rich in "fiendish traditions" will have bloodlines and all that, but just to whip them up out of nowhere in regions that never saw them before (possibly claiming that they have existed there all along) is not sitting well with me. Then again, the 4E half-fiend-looking tieflings will never enter one of my games anyway. That said, 4E won't either for some time to come.

What does ante mean?

Use ... the internet!

I'll give you a hint though:

"1838 (n.), 1846 (v.), Amer.Eng. poker slang, apparently from L. ante ..."

They are more like mystery meat from the planes. As long as some outsiders of the lower bent are in the bloodline..
Or well, even slaadis seem to go.

But i suppose a slaadiblooded would be even worse :D
Murder.. hmm.. freed and give hima medal! And then the watch should beat 3 random people!
Stole a chicken.. hmm.. decimate her family, random 1/2.
Stared at a noble.. hmm.. flog the noble!

1 more in the iron throne (werent all sold as slaves?), and another in the rune that had a dragon cloak and a upside down flying pyramid.

Tulrun of the Tent, he isn't mentioned, that's too obscure for them

think there were more than three tieflings before

Shangalar isn't mentioned either

I like the idea. Its only natural for a devilish tiefling to learn the law and its loopholes. I imagine he would be corrupt but not in a debased form. Perhaps it has some ties to the Shadowthieves or the Knights of the Shield.

In the 14th century realms Gargauth creates some tieflings with unfortunate women who he confides with for a day and ruins and abandons afterwards. These tormented but gifted tieflings are forever at search for a father who has a thousand faces, and most wont know it was Gargauth that caused their fiendish bloodline.

Narfell had strong links with demons. So their could have been some interbreeding demonic bloodlines, but the fiendish bloodlines should be as rare as everwhere else.

I agree.

A Tiefling with Devilish Blood (an Alufiend now?) would take to the law like a WotC designer to a bad idea.

On the oher hand, one with Demonic Blood (Cambion?) would probably eat the law book.

4th edition Tieflings are now completely devil-related in the fluff, no demon-spawn allowed.

What's more, 4e Tieflings in core are now universally the descendents of humans who made pacts with devils and were transformed into the first tieflings. 4e FR seems to have continued this trend, giving similar origins to the tieflings of Narfell and the Old Empires.

In fact, with no half-orcs and other half-breeds (except half-elves), and planetouched being their own separate races, they've completely removed the old ideas of monster ****, as well as mutants and freaks.

Has this been confirmed? I read the Narfell section and don't remember them mentioning their origin. I hope they clarify it in the FRPG.

I've had a look through for Tieflings. There's a few NPCs, and two lands for them, Narfell and the remnants of Mulhorand.

"A high concentration of tieflings lives in Gheldaneth. Many of them claim that they are mortal descendants of ancient Mulhorandi deities, though most believe they are scions of slaves who made deals with devils in an attempt to escape their bondage."

"Although the craft of calling and securing planar entities within Narfell is
referred to as demonbinding, the practice was not so limited. Ancient Nars made pacts with all kinds of otherworldly beings, including devils. Strong tiefling bloodlines are common throughout the Nar tribes, and many tieflings occupy positions of power among the nomads."

Both of these read like the 4e PHB's Tiefling entry: "Hundreds of years ago, the leaders of the human empire of Bael Turath made pacts with devils to
solidify their hold over its enormous territory. Those humans became the first tieflings..." That is, a people of old made a pact with devils, and became tieflings.

In both cases these are retcons of existing lore, in flavour of core fluff.

The PGTF placed tieflings in both nations, but kept their origins appropriate to the area - demonspawn tieflings in Narfell and Impiltur; Set, Sebek and Nergal spawned tieflings in Mulhorand and Unther.
