Time of Troubles?

I'm currently on a bit of a reading spat, going through the legend of Drizzit. (actually enjoying immensily.)

And I just got to the novel where the Time of Troubles occurred. (and is now over.)

I was wondering what the ToT was. Is this a literary reference to an edition switch? If so, which one? (I read the entry on the FRwiki, and it didn't help me much.)

Not a hugely important question, but if someone in the know could help me, I'd be much obliged.

-Yes, the Time of Troubles was when D&D 1e transformed into D&D 2e. It took place in 1,358 DR, the Year of Shadows. A lot took place during that year- hence the name.

OK, thanks. That's exactly what I was looking for.

And, I can't spell half of the words in my first language (English).

At least I didn't put the apostraphe in.

EDIT: although you'd think I'd know how to spell it after reading nearly 10 books with him as the main Character...

No, that was really it. I wasn't sure if it was the 1e-2e or the 2e-3e. (OTOH, i KNEW it wasn't 3.x-4e. I know what that one is.)

Is there anything big regarding the transition from 2e-3e?

-Nope. That's the "proper" way to do it, in my opinion. Nothing big* happened. There's no reason to have huge things happen with rule changes. Things that need explanations should be explained, but things shouldn't arbitrarily be changed/done for the sake out it.

*That's not to say things didn't happen. Bane returned from the "dead", for example.

(long joke amongst my group. They consider me NE at best, ammoral CN at worst. Not "actively evil," just, uncaring as to how I get my results. I do JUST enough good that my DM hasn't changed my Alignment in the game where we play ourselves. Touch of Chaos is my favorite spell.)
