-Since I can't draw, and I don't have any (free) access to people who can, I decided to partially go the WotC route concerning images for Elves of Faerûn: take images from other WotC books, giving them new "captions" and passing them off as the events they describe. Concerning the complete timeline of Elves in Faerûn, if anyone knows (or wants to peruse), anyone have any good ideas concerning matching preexisting images with Faerûnian Elven happenings. There's a few I already have, but it's a lot easier for everyone's input/suggestions.

[SBLOCK=
An example of what I mean]
757 DR, Year of Lost Wayfarers
~The first recorded murder of Humans and Half-Elves by the Eldreth Veluuthra takes place.

[/SBLOCK]

[SBLOCK=
One more example for posterity]
241 DR, Year of the Hippogriff's Folly
~In late autumn, Elminster Aumar enters the city of Cormanthor both to serve Mystra's will and return the kiira of House Alastrarra, which he has in his possession.

Well, its hard to find dark-skinned (but not Drow) Elves in art. Thats actually not an Elf, but the ears were justy pointy enough for it to be a stretch (since the rest looked about right to me). Even though they were creatures of nature and the forest, everyone insists on giving them milky-white skin.

Its hard to find any dark-skinned fantasy art.

Point taken. Still, the picture is ugly.:P

Beggers can't be chosers.

I can always modify something...

Anyhow, I'm not too sure about that 'Elminster' picture. El looks more fit then that hundreds of years later, and he looks too serene, and he also looked like an Elf when he entered Myth Drannor...

Hey! That means you can pull a WotC/GhotR and say "this is what Elminster looked like, when he looked like an Elf". :D

Pure cheese, but if they can do it, why can't you? :D

-Hey, that stuff is good! What books are those from? Looking at the URLs, I can tell what books some of those are from, but not all of them.

-That was the part I was having the most trouble with. Finding an image that looked like a random Elf, that could be matched with an existing NPC is easy enough. I was having trouble finding images that were 'scenes'.

Well, I don't think they were even supposed to be Elves, but their look was about right for the Ilythiir in the later stages of the war (after they had gone from warlike barbarians to a disciplined, evil army).

I like the Saracen-like look for them - almost like LotR's Numenoreans (I think those are the guys I'm thinking of - those evil men from the south).

Those 'evil men from the south' may have been modeled after the Saracens but the Numenoreans were the ancestors of the Kings of Gondor ending up with Aragorn. They were the Dunedain, the elf friends. Just had to throw that in.

I had a feeling it was wrong - it didn't sound right.

However, correcting me is proper etiquette - not just pointing-out my honest mistake. ;)

The name of the 'guys from the south' is the Haradrim - it's been a LONG while since I read those books (although they look more like Muslims in the movie).

Maybe I was thinking of 'Black Numenoreans'?

Anyhow, in some of the older art (Brothers Hildebrandt?) those Haradrim looked more Persian then Arabic, and thats what I was picturing for the "Ilythiir at war".

Fair point but I didn't know the correct term and that actually would have required effort (probably typing it in google... ) to find.

But now look what you've done. I can't place where the 'Black Numnoreans' came from (the term...) in my head. I will have to go look for it now...

I believe this is an excellent idea and so far I find all the pics pretty nifty.

However, I have a question about this:

Concerning the complete timeline of Elves in Faerûn, if anyone knows (or wants to peruse), anyone have any good ideas concerning matching preexisting images with Faerûnian Elven happenings.

Exactly what is meant by the "complete timeline" of Elves in Faerun?

Is this a general expression or does it refer to a specific timeline?

If so, where might I find this timeline?

-Man, this is actually kind of hard. Not all images are the same size, fonts, when enlarged/shrunk, change...

-Elves in Faerûn.

How so LK? Not sure what you meant there, but if you know how to work with scale, you shouldn't have any issues there...

If you need a lightweight program for scaling images, I'd recommend "Irfan View"
It was developed by my countrymen, so I promote it wherever I can :D
It allows for numeric scaling and percentile scaling. Which is more then a whole bunch of other programs do..

really like that nycaloth picture, perfect for Gaulguth

I was thinking Malimshaer... But any works really... Except Aulmpiter, he has a nice picture already..
Malimshaer was supposed to be a berzerker, and the pic kinda suits him..
Gaulguth was supposed to have been a "stealthy nycaloth".. which is kinda silly if you ask me, but mkay.

Oh, and yeah, not a lot of people know bout Irfan, but its awesome :D
I ain't speaking Croatian, cause its better not to jack someone's thread with meaningless chatter

-I have Photoshop, so I have software that can do that stuff. It's just that, not all of the images are the same size, same ratio, and so on. So, I can't do a blanket "shrink all images 45% to make them all the same size, and then use the same font, so that all of the fonts are the same sizes".

At this point, it appears you are just finding "random, cool pictures", and not staying true to the threads intent - finding images that SPECIFICALLY relate to events in the ELVEN timeline.

That could be "Elminster grows bored in Myth Drannor", but I really doubt he ever had the time to grow bored there.
