I was thinking of running some players through the ToH as a self-made LFR module, but I want to make sure it jibes with the FR setting.

Are there any ancient pre-spellplague demilichs in FR fluff that would be good to use as the antagonist?  Or at least an ancient powerful lich that could be used where maybe he/she/it formed their tomb and went demi prior to the spellplague, perhaps knowing it was coming?

Does it have to be a lich? Tomb of Horrors sounds like something Halaster would have set up.

Well, Acererak, the end monster of the tomb, is a demilich.  Although in the 4e version the demilich skull is actually a construct, so I suppose it could work out to be something Halaster may have done.  It then begs the question of what it is the final resting place of.  Then again, with Halaster I guess it doesn't have to have any rhyme or reason.

Frostrune of the Twisted Rune.

Sure at the end of Blackstaff he was Halster's 'guest' in Undermountain.

Steven Schend liked my idea about Frostrune taking over after Halaster's death and the Spellplague(Candlekeep).

Or he could have relocated and now you have the Tomb of Horrors.

It would be awesome to see an FR conversion for the new 4E ToH like they did in Dungeon mag for H1-H3.

Wulgreth immediately leaps to mind; he was a Netherese arcanist who endured the Fall of Netheril and carved out his own little niche in the city of Karse (in the High Forest), even going so far as to divide the Cult of Karsus and eliminate those residents of Karse who disturbed him. He became a demilich after a period of time (the length of which escapes me at the moment, but suffice it to say, the period between his initial activity in Karse and the Spellplague occurring is staggering, so he was a demilich for centuries before the trouble started). Wulgreth, like any malevolent mage, valued his privacy and hated being disturbed, so he tried to involve himself with the outside world as little as possible, and slowly turned the area into his own little macabre lair.

Honestly, to me the whole feel of ToH just doesn't fit well with the topside Realms.  Acererak is really a classic flavor of Greyhawk, and it just sort of clashes with top-side Realms.

To make it fit, I'd put it in the Underdark... extremely old and forgotten, and probably untouched by most Underdark denizens.  In 4E, lots of new areas of the Realms underdark were "opened up" and you could say perhaps that this is one of those ancient areas that has been lost for so long that no one really remembers it's origin.

I love the Wulgreth idea. Good looks there! I could also see the Tomb of Horrors in some remote part of the Realms or even an area deep in the Plaguetouched lands of Halruaa. Lots of ideas now floating in my head, lol.

In my 3e game I placed it in the Yuirwood (under a black stone "circle"), and connected it with Mourel (the final undead villain from the Twilight Tomb module [a 3e adventure]). I can't go into any more details, as my players are about to delve into it.

I placed the ToH in the Shadowfell. To access it a fey had to show the adventurers a cursed path through the forest in Cormanthor.

In my next campaign i'll use Tomb of Horrors and i'll choice a place on the Dragon Coast, maybe an isle, to reconnect it with the fate of the infamous Sammaster (lich and founder of the Cult of the Dragon).
