There is a thread currently going on about Larloch but what happened to the other uber powerful mages out there such as Ioulaum The Oracle of Ellyn'taal, The Ghost of Spellguard Lady Saharel, Qysar Shoon VII, Rhaugilath the Ageless, Arthindol a Sarrukh Lich, and Wulgreth of Ascalhorn (Karsus stone is his phylactery). Thats all the ones I can remember for now. I just want to know what happened to these guys. These weren't just lowly NPC's, these were your superpowers of the Realms.

Good question, I would imagine the official WotC response to be something along the lines of theyer whereever you want doing whatever you want in your Realms. Thats my main beef with the new Realms, the 100 timeline advance doesnt bother me, or that they killed off this or that god or that this god ir really this other god, or that most of the character i enjoyed in previous editions are now dead of old age or lost in limbo or what ever. What bugs me is that the Realms used to be the most detailed game world EVER! And they took all that and therw it out the window.

But any way i know with certainty that lady Saharel is still around, shes featured in the Scepter Tower of Spellguard 4e adventure. I think Wulgreth is gone, it seems i remember something about him getting offed and the Karse stone being destroyed, but i cant for the life of me remember where i read that or any other details. Of course we know that Elminster is living a quiet life in Shadowdale, and Sszas Tam is still around rulling the undead nation of Thay. As for the others I havnt got a clue.

I am honestly appalled by the new Realms. I thought campaign settings were supposed to be different than the generic settings where things "can" be where ever you want them. I remember when I could sit there with books such as the Grand History of the Realms and Lost Empires of Faerun and just get lost in the rich detailed history. Now this crap about "well it's where ever or how ever you want it to be" is really getting on my nerves. You can always not use or change the information thats there but when there is a lack of it then it just seems that the designers have just gotten lazy. The Realms used to be my favorite setting next to Dragonlance and now I look at it as a loved one who has died. I just enjoy the memories I have .

I definitely know what you mean. Im not ready to ditch the Realms just yet though. I still use the Realms and still have a good time with it. But yeah i would like to see more lore and information on what happened between 3e Realms and 4e Realms. They need more maps, they had maps for every city in the Realms, but now its like a 100 years later so most of them probably no longer apply. Id love to see a 4e Atlas. I think the designers were trying to make it more accessible to new players, but at the same time us long time players are left wondering about this or that and just saying oh just make it up doesnt really cut it. I think another part of it is theyre trying to limit edition bloat which really hampered 3.xe, so theyre limiting the number of books they put out for each setting. I can understand that reasoning but that just doesnt work for the Realms. Its always changing and evolving so we should get some like a gazzeter or something to reflect those changes and show what it means to the game world. I do like some of the changes, i think the Spellplague is an intersting idea and i like the Spellscars. I would like to see more official support of the Realms its like you said the designers were lazy.
