I wish Drizzt would become a vampire, it would ruin his life since it would probally go agaisn't his morals. Anyone else have any bad ass concept ideas they want to toss out since FR is hardcore-unoriginal? |
| #2naexAug 24, 2008 1:27:25 | Vampire and Dracolich are incompatible, two different forms of undead, maybe a lich with life draining powers, but no way you can justify a vampiric lich. Especially since a vampire requires the blood to survive, and liches draw their strength from Negative/Necrotic energy directly. |

Oh but it's ok to justify RAS BS with characters comming back after Lolth killed them? Or drizzt taking on a thounsand orcs? What about the Vampire shade though? That works right? BTW, don't even try to bring logic into FR, when it comes to "heros" anything is possbile for this easily ammused crowd. |

There are rules and guidelines that say that your idea won't work, though a vampiric shade would (though I would call it a wraith). The rules do allow for resurrections and combating large groups of lesser monsters without being destroyed. Also Lolth never killed any of RAS's characters, Wulfgar was killed and imprisoned by a demon, not a goddess. |

No, for you see I don't play DnD, I just read the novels. I am not limited to the restrictions you are. I am like a dog chasing cars, I wouldn't know what to do with it if I caught one...so I just do.. |
| #8ScererarAug 24, 2008 1:45:52 | wasn't Brimstone in the rage of dragons trilogy and vampiric dracolich? |

And I choose to be bound by the rules, because they give us a level playing field, just like any game (which is what those novels are based on - heroic fantasy at that, which has traditions that are as strong as rules). Without understanding the rules that are the foundations for those books you can not accurately judge the logic of those books. |
| #10naexAug 24, 2008 2:14:10 | wasn't Brimstone in the rage of dragons trilogy and vampiric dracolich? I don't know, as I've never read the series, though even a Vampire dragon is supposed to be against the rules. If Brimstone (very unoriginal name for a dragon, IMO) is a vampiric dracolich, then it is very unique, and falls well outside of the rules. |

RAS actually bashed the DnD game, saying something along the lines of stats and level can not accuretley lay the outcome of a battle. He gave a prime example in one of the re-makes of legend of Drizzt novels. Sold out the love that she had, left with a cut of the throat, Drinks all 'round on her before she strolls to the moat, The sun goes down, and so does she, Count your blessings, Come on, Count your blessings, 'cause I'm counting every lie, Christ, I'm asking you for just one thing, I'm asking you for just one thing, Eradicate this disease, Close your eyes, pray for plagues, Oh Lord, cleanse this Earth and bring upon our dooms day, Oh, close your eyes, pray for plagues, Cleanse this Earth and bring dooms day, So clap your hands to the sound of every first born dying now, Watch the rivers flow with blood, death will stand where life once stood,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AWggPLXeOkU |
| #12naexAug 24, 2008 2:30:09 | No, a game can't accurately portray combat, neither can a movie or video game. Combat is a full sensory experience, and no method, other than actually getting into a fight, is realistic. Those mediums give us a rough approximation and then we have to use our imaginations to fill in the gaps. Some people like over the top combat, some of us don't... I like JRR Tolkien's style, he rarely included actual combat, and reduced it down to the conversations of the participants (Legolas and Gimli in Helm's Deep for instance) rather than a blow by blow detailed analysis of the fight. I grew bored with Drizzt, and all RAS's work, not because his characters were the "best" at what they did, but because they were ineffectual characters, they were too caught up in dealing with their own issues, and I don't want a Soap Opera of a book, I want a tale of magic and mystery. |

Ever watched Fight Club? ;) Btw, I'd have to say that even though I despise Drizzt, RAS makes some bad ass battle scenes. The only thing I can relate to what you speak of is when he writes his stupid diary. That and reading about Wuflgar sitting by the fire, staring into it for 10 pages. I did not mind Artemis's inner delimas as much, cuz I felt I could actually relate to something such as that, unlike Drizzt who is unorgianally potrayed as the only "good" drow in the entire realms....is that suppose to be entertaining? Also on a side note, I had thought that all though Paul Kemps novels were decent, his battle scenes were awful with such fights like: "A flurry of slashes that were almost too fast for the eye to watch". That's just an excuse not to write it. His magic is ok to read, but when it comes to meele, friggin terrible. |
| #14strife026Aug 24, 2008 6:30:40 | Scererar, Brimstone was a vampiric dragon (forgot what type) not a vampiric dracolich. |
| #15entombmentofamachineAug 24, 2008 12:47:23 | (forgot what type) ?..meaning, like element based? Fire/earth/water ect.? They're are different variations or something? Kinda like in DL when they have the unoriginal dragons that, depending on what color your scales are, decides your morals. *White and Gold Dragons*= Good guys *Red Black Green*= Bad GJ Weis&Hickmen for excluding the ability of free will for a supposbley unmatchable creature of magic/intelligence/strength in DL to date. |
| #16minuetAug 24, 2008 13:15:21 | Well, in 3.X Good Dragons were: Metallic (Gold, Silver, Bronze; things of that nature), and Evil Dragons were: Red, Green, White, and things like that. I'm not sure how 4E classifies things as I've had no inclination to buy the sourcebooks aside from the Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide. |
