What happen to the North?

Okay I was looking over the excerpt from RPGA on the Players Guide to the Forgotten Realms and I couldn't help but notice that I didn't see a regional benefit for the The North. Now I'm not all that good with realms geography but Neverwinter is in the North right? Well we are playing a 4e version of NWN2 and so of course the main group is from the starting town in that game and I assume we'd all have either the North benefit or the Neverwinter one but neither exist. Is Neverwinter going to be around in 4e or am I missing the right region? I also realize that Neverwinter is only a city in the North but as I looked over the regional benefits I noticed that Waterdeep had one so I thought it might be possible that Neverwinter has one to.

That's just a minimal selection of backgrounds that the RPGA needed to get out. As I understand it the North has been minimally affected by the Spellplague and so on due to all the mythals and things protecting it, so most of it should still be there, subject to whatever history has happened in the meantime.

The Silver Marches are now Luruar. As for the rest I would use the Dragon Coast entry.

-'The North' is a big place. Some things will have changed a little, some drastically, and some not at all. Looking for information on a specific locale in the North, or just the regional feat thing?

Basically I was trying to find out if not narrow down what the regional benefit for us would be since we are in that starting town. (I forget the towns name)

It's possible there are more backgrounds than the ones listed (I'm not "up" with LFR, I don't know). I also wouldn't expect every single possible region to be available.

-Gotcha.

-Yeah. Within each region are subregions, and cultures, and subcultures, and so on and so on. I like that we are getting Human 'subraces', here, though. Finally.

Okay now that the Players Guide to Faerun is out for 4e. Any new ideas or suggestions. Are there any other potentially places where our group could have started from? The DM insight of seeing that Neverwinter is no more, has said our destination is now Balder's Gate. I don't really like that idea, but oh well. what are the regions near Balder's Gate, that our core group could have come from?

I believe the name of the village is West Habor, near the Mere of Dead Men.

If you want the group to be from Neverwinter, just insert it back into the setting. There's no rule saying you can't do that!

Neverwinter is not exactly no more, but it is a big question mark. If Luskan has a whole entry, and it's still in ruin, then you can believe that there is some kind of rebuilding effort in Neverwinter.

Part of me thinks that it would be kinda cool to have a "Restore Phelan" campaign for Neverwinter. I think having a campaign where Suahgain and a Dragon Master of some kind have taken over part of the city, and the fighting that is going on between the Heirs of Neverwinter and the Sea Devils is what is keeping Neverwinter from re-establishing itself.

In anycase, there is nothing in the world preventing you from choosing whatever place you want your character to come from. Choose something you like, and go with that! (The Gray Vale has a nifty Child of the Northern Wilderness thing going for it).

-Neverwinter, Waterdeep, Baldur's Gate...It's all the same, really.

That is a wonderful idea Kensan, and I thank you to Rinonalyrn. I'm sure at some point if my DM doesn't make a campaign about it, I will use Kensan's idea. Didn't see you there Karsus, thanks for you're input as well.
