I was checking out the 4E Faerun book (Which I haven't had a chance to purchase yet... damn those books are expensive) and I noticed that Mask was absent from the list of Gods. He was by far my favorite God in the setting. What happened to him?

-We will find out in December when next Cale Book is released. Also the FRCG says that his "Former Chosen" are seen periodically in Mask's old Domain. It has been speculated that he is hiding out in the "Fane of Shadow's".

-I hope that helps.

I can't wait. I've been waiting for that book since the latest one came out.

It's good to hear that he wasn't killed off or anything and could possibly make a reappearence at some point.

Right now we don't know if he was killed off or not, We just really have speculation about him. Personally I want to see him in 4E and no matter what happens with future books he exists in the campaign that I run.

@18DELTA: I don't remember seeing that, which pages was it on? I know I missed a few other things too but it hurts my feelings missing that one.

-Well, all has been said that there really is on this subject. Note, though, that if a deity dies, his/her/it's divine realm goes with it. Since it's implied that Masks' is still around, and that his Chosen visit it from time to time, it's likely that Masks' fate is something other than death.

We don't know. They made us all wait until December. That's really what all of this boils down to. It derailed one of my campaigns hard, too, because I'm ahead of their timeline in Sembia and it's making problems.

I would just make him a greater god os Shadows and Illusion. He is another foil to Shar next to Selune.

I vote that Mask will be responsible for the first 4e RSE. He's a loose cannon at this point.

Just take your storyline in the direction you want it to go in. Who says you have to wait for WotC? You know that I, for one, don't care whether or not your games match up with "canon".

I, for one, hope he's dead. My favorite book series in all of FR is the Avatar Trilogy about the time of troubles. I was very disappointed when in third edition they just decided to ressurrect every god who died that anyone cared about. And here I thought a god dying was kind of a big deal, but nope. Cyric kills Mask shortly after ascending to Godhood, Torm killed Bane in a big megazord fight over Tantris and Elminster exploded Bane in Shadowdale, Helm killed Mystra and now not only is she back but there's no mention at all of Midnight in fourth ed. Wasn't she there to maintain the weave in place of Mystra? Shouldn't she have stopped the spellplague entirely? Nope looks like the only thing from the time of troubles that made it into fourth ed canon was Kelemvor. Oh well...

By the way, what the hell happened to Helm? I liked him and there is no mention of him in the current FR books that I've seen.

-Bhaal is still dead, and Myrkul is not a deity.

Cyric kills Mask shortly after ascending to Godhood...

-Cyric never killed Mask. He killed Leira shortly after ascending to divinity, and she hasn't reappeared as of yet.

By the way, what the hell happened to Helm? I liked him and there is no mention of him in the current FR books that I've seen.

-He was killed around 1,385 DR. I don't have my copy of AGHotR nearby, so I can't reference the exact date.

Mask was never killed by Cyric. Bhaal was and so was Leira.

The Sword that Cyric used to kill Bhaal was the avatar of mask. After realizing this when he ascended to godhood Cyric broke the sword and Mask was not heard from for nearly a decade.

Aye but he was not killed, just weakened since that was only his Avatar.

-That did not kill Mask, however. Being on the lamb with a wound is a far cry from being dead.

Stop with the dark and empty swearing alrdy. Srsly, it's like that craze over "Blood and bloody ashes" from Wheel of Time fans. It does not sound kool if you use it in front of every single sentence and in the wrong context. Like oh em gee!

Well, Raven Queen seems to be carrying around his mask...at least it looks like the same mask if you look at the pictures.

(Spoiler below)

Per a thread from PK blog post, he said this about Mask...

Mags is, indeed, a half-fiend. A half-fiend and then some. Hence a much longer lifespan.

Mask is "dead," I suppose, but recall his final thought from the novel. He considers it ironic that he had been able to keep a secret from his mother. What secret? Well, that one has to wait for the next series.

I don't really know how that will play out in-game for clerics, but I'd guess that clerics of Mask (if any still exist in 1479) either would get no spells or would be granted them through Riven.

There's a bit more to it, too. As part of one of his posts on his blog said...

Show
"I'm very happy with the novel and with the arcs for all of the main characters in the series. I am looking forward to continuing to build on these stories, but doing so from the perspective not of Erevis Cale, but of his son. The story of Cale, Riven, Mask, and Abelar has not ended, but this was an ending, of sorts. The next leg of the journey will be shown through a different lens than that of my favorite bald assassin. I think it will be a good time and I hope that you'll join me in it. Past is definitely prologue for this next installment. "

So the question of Mask being "dead" or not, is still open.

Of course, that's sorta kinda true for every deceased deity.

So the question of Mask being "dead" or not, is still open.

Actually, he's not dead. He ceased to exist when Shar absorbed him. Now, whatever "seed" he planted would be a different deity (if it even is a deity), not the same one. Mask manifested entirely with all of his knowledge, stolen power, and etc in Shar's domain and Shar's will is that of nothingness/oblivion.

It's like in Sandman, when Dream died and a new Dream took his place. They have the same memories and powers but not the same personality.

I agree, thats another reason why his Dominion didn't go away in the Shadowfell. A:Its Shar's Domain,
