| #1Elemental_ElfDec 03, 2008 18:27:29 | I'm not an uber FR fan but I have enjoyed the setting in the past (love the Dalelands). At any rate, I was flipping through the latest FRCS and noticed the Mulhorandi Pantheon disappeared! Did I just miss it or did something bad happen to my man Horus-Re? |
| #2erevis_cale_dupDec 03, 2008 20:36:58 | Dark and Empty, they packed up and left. |
| #3RUMPLESTIXDec 03, 2008 21:07:34 | The Spell Plague tore Mulhorrand to shreds. After that, the pantheon packed it up and left. I think it is in the FRCG. Actually p. 138 says Mulhorrand's gods departed. |
| #4lord_karsusDec 03, 2008 21:09:31 | -Mulhorand (and Unther) were "removed". What is likely is that they've been "teleported" to "Abeir". Because the Mulhorandi went, their deities followed. -That said, it defied comprehension that every single Mulhorandi individual on the face of the planet disappeared. As such, as long as there is one being who worships a member of the Mulhorandi pantheon- Horus-Re, in this case- their "divine window" is still open, and they still have an area of influence. Albeit, it would be a single worshiper, but... |
| #5unfamiliarDec 03, 2008 21:46:11 | The History DC 15 result for High Imaskar Lore states that the Mulhorandi gods departed after the Spellplague & that Mulhorand (what was left of it, that is) was "completely barren of civilization." That much we do know. What comes next is just my best guess, but with the empire of Mulhorand pretty much wiped off the map by the Spellplague & most of its surviving citizens dispersed as refugees throughout the rest of Faerun, it makes sense that the Mulhorandi deities simply departed on their own to greener pastures. Considering the fact that they were always interlopers on Faerun as far as gods go (having come from the same world where the Imaskari human slaves were abducted from), they didn't have much reason to stick around after the Spellplague. With hardly any worshipers left on Faerun & an Imaskari ban on worship of the Mulhorandi pantheon, I'm guessing the deities simply returned to their original world, where one can assume there were far greater numbers of people still around to worship them. |
| #6Shemeska_the_MarauderDec 03, 2008 23:08:06 | Presumably the 4e design team didn't like them, and like many -many- things in FR, they gutted them out entirely and replaced them with things hitherto without presence in FR, like anything new in the core PoL world, or pet ideas like the Aboleth sovereignty. |
| #7lord_karsusDec 04, 2008 0:04:53 | -Hey, I will say, let's not diss on Xxiphu. It's one thing (THE one thing?) I like. |
| #8Elemental_ElfDec 04, 2008 0:10:43 | This is really sad news! Mulhorand was one of the biggest draws for me when I first started playing D&D. I loved the entire country, I'm really sad to see it disappear... Still I love the idea of being one of the few remaining Mulhorandi Clerics running around in the world... It has a really cool feel to it ![]() Well thank you all for replying so quickly, though I wish you were all bearers of better news ![]() |
| #9lord_karsusDec 04, 2008 0:14:20 | Well thank you all for replying so quickly, though I wish you were all bearers of better news -Here's some good news: Real estate has become much more available. |
| #10StiggerDec 04, 2008 0:20:13 | Except for that whole Dragonborn infestation thing... |
| #11lord_karsusDec 04, 2008 0:31:44 | Except for that whole Dragonborn infestation thing... -There are sprays and aerosols to deal with that. |
| #12markustay_dupDec 04, 2008 0:39:08 | So does that mean they came back HERE? ![]() And if so, can I start worshipping them? I've always been a Baast man.... |
| #13lord_karsusDec 04, 2008 0:52:43 | So does that mean they came back HERE? -Someone was granting those Egyptian magicians from the Book of Exodus their powers, and the Magi from the east... |
| #14yakmanDec 04, 2008 6:57:06 | This is really sad news! Mulhorand was one of the biggest draws for me when I first started playing D&D. I loved the entire country, I'm really sad to see it disappear... well... the whole country isn't quite gone. iirc, there's a city in the Imaskari Empire that is still Mulan (read: last remnant on Faerun of Mulhorond). The Imaskari are in charge, but the local Mulan aren't really happy about the situation.... |
| #15ScrinoverlordDec 04, 2008 7:00:17 | Except for that whole Dragonborn infestation thing... Oh, you wanna diss the dragonborn, eh? No; we need to kill all the Drow first. Drizzt among them. EXECUTE ORDER 66. Realize, topic starter, it's your world. So maybe the Spellplague left Unther and Mulhorand alone, and High Imaskar/Tymanther exists elsewhere? I see absolutely nothing wrong with twisting Realms lore to your liking/taste. Just about 2/4 of the Realms community thinks the Realms have been "destroyed" and "obliterated", and while I heartily disagree, this isn't the topic to discuss that. THUS, like I said...just modify it to your taste. |
| #16rinonalyrna_fathomlinDec 04, 2008 9:56:05 | -Hey, I will say, let's not diss on Xxiphu. Can I do it? Only, I'd replace "d" with another letter. |
| #17rinonalyrna_fathomlinDec 04, 2008 9:58:00 | -Someone was granting those Egyptian magicians from the Book of Exodus their powers, and the Magi from the east... I agree, those deities can help wizards in the real world! |
| #18lord_karsusDec 04, 2008 11:37:51 | Can I do it? -'Kiss'? You'd kiss Xxiphu? Eww...I don't know if I want to kiss you anymore. Eww! Gross! Aboleth slime! :P I agree, those deities can help wizards in the real world! -And then, of course, there's all their tales of magic using in actual Egyptian sources. Pyramid hieroglyphics, the Book of the Dead, and so on. |
| #19erevis_cale_dupDec 04, 2008 15:36:27 | Dark and Empty, ![]() |
| #20sfdragonDec 04, 2008 16:30:11 | sharess aka Bast is still in the realms, but thats it |
| #21markustay_dupDec 04, 2008 16:42:51 | I think I saw Amun-Ra on the unemploymet line yesterday. :P Dark and Empty, You are starting to make me HATE Paul Kemp's novels now. Just stop, before you turn him into another Drizzt. ![]() |
| #22uzzyDec 04, 2008 16:51:57 | Clearly, all the Mulhorandi went through a Stargate to escape. |
| #23bonzaiDec 04, 2008 17:19:03 | Is Set gone too? Having taken over the World Serpents portfolio, he should still have all the Yaunti and various serpent folk as petitioners... Or did they do away with the world serpent too? |
| #24erevis_cale_dupDec 04, 2008 17:35:58 | Clearly, all the Mulhorandi went through a Stargate to escape. Show Dark and Empty |
| #25lord_karsusDec 04, 2008 23:33:50 | I think I saw Amun-Ra on the unemploymet line yesterday. :P -Imagine, a divine unemployment line... You are starting to make me HATE Paul Kemp's novels now. -Agreed. |
| #26sfdragonDec 05, 2008 3:45:04 | Is Set gone too? Having taken over the World Serpents portfolio, he should still have all the Yaunti and various serpent folk as petitioners... Set is gone. Sseth rules the yaun-ti, and the world serpent separated and Zehir wants it all |
| #27lord_karsusDec 05, 2008 10:14:17 | -Zehir still never got a proper explanation into the setting, did s/he? |
| #28rinonalyrna_fathomlinDec 05, 2008 10:43:45 | -'Kiss'? You'd kiss Xxiphu? Eww...I don't know if I want to kiss you anymore. Eww! Gross! Aboleth slime! :P It may be hard to believe, but I was thinking of a cruder word than that.;) -Imagine, a divine unemployment line... I believe it! |
| #29lord_karsusDec 05, 2008 10:56:58 | It may be hard to believe, but I was thinking of a cruder word than that.;) -I know, I know (though kiss was the very first thing I saw). -And, FYI, even Aboleth slime would not stop me from kissing you. ![]() |
| #30rinonalyrna_fathomlinDec 05, 2008 11:00:05 | -I know, I know (though kiss was the very first thing I saw). I didn't think so!:D |
| #31markustay_dupDec 05, 2008 11:40:10 | Get a room. :P |
| #32StiggerDec 05, 2008 12:59:50 | Ah, jealousy rears its ugly head... Guess you're gonna have to find someone to replace LK one of these days Markus. :P :D |
| #33markustay_dupDec 05, 2008 13:09:29 | Jealous? ![]() Since my divorce, I HATE women. And no... I'm not playing for the other team these days... ![]() |
| #34todesherrDec 05, 2008 13:12:22 | Talos Killed Them.:D |
| #35todesherrDec 05, 2008 13:13:12 | Jealous? Me too. |
| #36elsenrailDec 05, 2008 17:01:57 | I didn't think so!:D You and LK are my like the the spirits of this forum... just like some treants are for the woods. ;P Without you, it would never be the same. |
| #37erevis_cale_dupDec 05, 2008 18:24:26 | Get a room. :P QFT. ![]() :P |
| #38rinonalyrna_fathomlinDec 05, 2008 19:55:10 | You and LK are my like the the spirits of this forum... just like some treants are for the woods. ;P Without you, it would never be the same. That was sweet, thanks. ![]() |
| #39lord_karsusDec 05, 2008 20:44:42 | -I am the Treant of the Forgotten Realms forums. -To be useful in making a post, I'll just say, I've always ignored a lot of the Mulhorandi pantheon, per se, and substituted information with the Egyptian Pantheon, from On Hallowed Ground. |
| #40gray_richardsonDec 05, 2008 22:53:04 | -Zehir still never got a proper explanation into the setting, did s/he? I think I read one of the designers somewhere mention Zehir was an interloper deity. So, I presume he entered into Faerûn from another world sometime after the Spellplague. But what his story is, we haven't been told any more than that. Like you I am curious to know. Perhaps he was traded from another pantheon in exchange for Mask. ;) I noticed he has the portfolio of poison now. And Talona doesn't. That has got to tick her off something fierce. No doubt she will hold bitter resentment against Zehir until she manages to reclaim her lost portfolio. I can see holy wars and bitter conflict between their clergies. I predict lots of plagues wherever Zehir's faithful are populous. I see prominent Talonite priests and church supporters dying from food poisoning, snake bites, insect stings, targeted assassinations, or just plane mysteriously for no obvious reason. It may escalate into an epic plague-off on the scale of Asram in -33 DR when Talona took out Kiputytto in order to claim sole dominion over the portfolio of disease. Of course, if Talona were powerful enough to take on Zehir, she wouldn't have lost the poison sphere in the first place. But perhaps she is biding her time, building her strength and waiting for the right moment to strike... ![]() |
| #41tyrantbaneDec 06, 2008 0:00:03 | She could also receive help from Shar (yeah I know naming her is dangerous, she isnt liked much around here :P)...Maybe Shar has in mind to take both poisons and disease for herself? |
| #42old_sageDec 06, 2008 0:53:07 | I think I read one of the designers somewhere mention Zehir was an interloper deity. So, I presume he entered into Faerûn from another world sometime after the Spellplague. The entry for the "Towers of Night' in the FRCG notes that Zehir is an interloper deity. |
