Ive read that you can destroy demiplanes which was what was happening there but you cant destroy real planes, like the Feywild. So all of their effort can't pay off anymore. So now what? |
| #2The_SilverswordDec 16, 2009 17:31:21 | Well whos to say? They hung out in the Ethreal plane right? Well with the Ethereal plane gone in 4e now, where would they likely be hangin out now? Astral Sea? Shadowfell seems more likely. Maybe theyve found another demi-plane to feast on? |
| #3sfdragonDec 16, 2009 20:43:48 | the demi plane they were attacking is in the feywild, I would wager that they are now either in the shadowfell or the feywild. |
| #4lord_karsusDec 16, 2009 21:07:27 | the demi plane they were attacking is in the feywild, I would wager that they are now either in the shadowfell or the feywild. -If they bothered to stay. I don't remember ever seeing it in print, but it makes sense what Doc said, that "true" planes can't be decomposed of like the Nilshai were decomposing the Sildeyuir. That said, if the Sildeyuir merged with the Plane of Faerie, it likely happened during the initial outbreak of the Spellplague ninety years, plur or minus, in the past. When/if the Nilshai arrived, and realized that they could no longer 'consume' the plane, it's likely that they packed up and left, going somewhere else, for whatever reasons their alien minds tell them to do things in the first place. Unless you want to merge them with the all-encompassing Aboleth-Slimes-Far Realms-Aberration silliness, in which case, they likely came to the Sildeyuir in the first place because of the presence of Stardeep, and the Traitor. |
| #5sfdragonDec 16, 2009 21:28:47 | that makes since LK. |
| #6lord_karsusDec 17, 2009 22:56:23 | -I was never too fond of the Nilshai. If they completely disappeared, I wouldn't feel too bad about their loss. They've always given me a Phaerimm-but-not-really vibe. Maybe if more was expanded concerning their motivations, origins, and just generally about them, I'd like them better. But, hey, if Washington didn't cross the Delaware, we'd be saying God save the Queen/King, so...(no offense to Illuvrien, of course.) |
| #7The_Simbul_of_AglarondDec 18, 2009 12:58:44 | The last account of the Nilshai written in the lore is in The Grand History of the Realms1376 DR The Year of the Bent Blade Since adventurer-mercenaries in Aglarond did not have many other great threats to contend with in the 1370-1380 DR period, given the peace affored by the treaty with Thay and the civil war of the Zulkirs, one can presume the adventuring companies who took up the bounty prospects were successful in eliminating the threat. The only possible reference to them in the 4E era is in the Aglarond section of Forgotten Realms Campaign Guide. The text states that some fragments of Sildëyuir that did not merge with the Feywild, and instead these pockets of that plane remain as "islands of solid ground inhabited by strange monsters". If nilshai still exist then this is the most likely place to encounter them, though the portals are not exactly safe to use after Mystra's fall. |
| #8ImruphelDec 18, 2009 19:20:11 | For a 4E game, perhaps the nilshai were not from the non-existent ethereal plane but from Far Realm "bubbles" or demiplanes? Maybe Sildeyuir's nature caused reality to fray at certain points allowing for the Far Realm to worm small tendrils through and those tendrils became the pathways of nilshai. In due course, like an infected appendix, the tendrils got swollen and ultimately cut off from the Far Realm but the remaining "bubble" still contained one or more nilshai. That now means that they're still waiting to invade reality. |
| #9lord_karsusDec 19, 2009 15:48:20 | For a 4E game, perhaps the nilshai were not from the non-existent ethereal plane but from Far Realm "bubbles" or demiplanes? -In trying to marry the Nilshai with the general "Aberration=Far Realms" theme, that certainly works. -Also, on a related note, if you ignore the concept that the Nilshai might or might not have been "Aberration=Far Realms" servitors, attacking the Sildeyuir because of the presence of Stardeep and the Traitor, and replace it with the concept that the Nilshai are/were some kind of extraplanar "colonizers", for whatever reason, they do not have to be limited to the Sildeyuir. That is, if they're "colonizers" of sorts, they could be "colonizing" any demiplane. |
| #10The_SilverswordDec 25, 2009 2:53:23 | Can we get some more info on the Nilshai? I admit im not all that familiar with them. What is their beef with the star elves anyway? IF i wanted to read up on them what sourcebook should i read? were they ever featured in any novels? |
