What level 26 utility power should a chosen of Talos get?

Aug 17, 2010 21:56:33 I'm playing a drow storm sorcerer who's been tapped to eventually become the chosen of Talos (we're running a 4e game, using the 3e setting, so Talos is a God (and not a stupid aspect of Gruumsh thank you very much).

I'm just looking to see if there is a Chosen utility power out there that fits the chosen of a Chaotic Evil greater god of storms. Not that I really see anything in the material so far.

Ideas?

Aug 17, 2010 23:08:15 Ah ok, That was going to be my first question upon forst seeing this thread, are you using Talos or a stupid aspect of Gruumsh, but youve already addressed that.

I cant think of anything at the moment, you might have to make something up, something to do with storms obviously. Maybe something like chain lightning or something? There might be some Talos spells in a previous editon sourcebook that could be converted over. Well I'll keep an eye open and if I come across something that just screams Chosen of Talos, I'll be sure to let you know.

Aug 17, 2010 23:13:12 Noen of the existing Chosen utilities seem to fit. (IMHO)

You could plug in an existing Sorcerer Utility. Storm Body fits well (if you haven't already taken it) although it's an Encounter so it throws the whole Daily utility motif off. Crown of Flames could work as well if you reflavored it to Lightning instead of Fire.

Aug 18, 2010 23:14:03 Yu could design a Utility power that sommons some form of Lightning elemental. Although you have to remember that utility summons never attack (those summons are Attack powers, not Utility powers), so youd have to find some nifty utility purpose for the elemental.

The old Stormlord prestige class allowe dyou to turn into an elemental. So maybe the utility could be some form of polymorph that lets you assume the shape of a lightning elemental. As a utility it won't include any sort of attack power (at least that does damage) but I'm sure you could come up with some utility for being in an elemental form.

That is an awesome idea actually. Some kind of lightning or storm shape utility power. It could grant flight and insubstantial for the duration of an encounter, for example. (perhaps also lightning and thunder immunity for good measure)

Aug 21, 2010 21:02:52 If you go to the Compendium in the Powers section and put polymorph in the search box and filter for utility powers you can look at what's there and try to gauge the relative power level you should be looking for.

Aug 22, 2010 14:28:07 I have to agree with angelus_obscura. I would take the Storm Sovereign ED and just claim I was a Chosen of Talos. Storm Sovereign just fits so much better and if you have a good lightning based PP like you're going it just fits so much better. Plus you won't need to have any discussion with your DM or similar.

Aug 22, 2010 18:46:38 Just to add more to my previous, bare post ... the Storm Sovereign ED is in Dragon 372, pg 43-44. The best abilities IMO are the aura 5 you get that deals auto 15 lightning/thunder dmg (lvl 24, after u die and become an elemental until you heal), and the utiity spell is all kinds of awesome. As an immediate interrupt, you can redirect an enemy's attack to a target of your choice within 20 sq and make it a NATURAL 20!!!!!! ahhhhhhhhh.

Aug 26, 2010 20:51:19 I would go with somethign that perhaps allows you to move a distance and then push away enemies or something along the way, perhaps knocking them prone. Or you could have something that does something drammatic as an immediate reaction of you using a Lightning or Thunder power.
