What's the future of the Realms?

Are we looking at a future of the Realms where its only presence is in adventures and novels?

I don't see any 5E FR support by WOTC and they aren't talking about anything down the pipeline in the future.

What's going on?

The sad thing is we that don't know anything and can't say anything at this point. There are info floating around the net that lead me to think that the lore for the post-Sundering FR is out there in WotC's hand, but we can't say when/how it will be released and -frankly- I'm quite discourgaed about the published Realms right now (even more so because -judging from this dragon related story- those ''adventures'' are more of generic stuff, their Realms specific content is only summary).

Well on the bright side, if they leave it to the fandom to keep the setting - in its' entirety - alive, we could be the ones to decide about its' fate. Look the world of Athas was kept alive from the fans for quite a while and it flourished, until WotC attempted to tap that stream of dedication for monetary interests, what was more to its' detriment than its' advantage. It's completelly different to share a world were everyone can create his own niche, rather than to consilidate all efforts to just catch the most lucrative market segment by superimposing changes to suit the target group and leave the minorities behind. Of course they want to please as many people as possible, but only in the vicinity of lucrative gain. Thus, as long as it is about revenues, it's going to be about what the majority of buying customers wants.

The future is a much reduced product....period.  We'll never go back to the 10-12 novel per year pace.  Which is very sad IMO.  I bought every book they released.  I never even looked at other fantasy novels.  But now, most of my reading is done outside the Realms.  That's money that's not going to WoTC.  One of these years they'll release their 3 novels for the year that will be of no interest to me and I might never come back.  AT least with the old release schedule, if I got a few clunkers, I knew that another would be along in a month or so.
