Hi to all m8.

I'm almost fainted when realize Drizzt doesn't figure in the new FR Campaign Guide. I know, I know, not all appreciate the drow's stories (really too long, like Beautiful ), but it's the best png ever created imo. 100 years have passed, but for a drow of about 90 years this time is nothing. He's good which means that he isn't a monster. Since he isn't a monster he doesn't need monster stats. NPCs don't have PC stats anymore, thank god

Hopefully taking a well-earned rest for awhile. If anyone spoke of FR, you had to either include Elminster or Drizzt...maybe that particular trend is over, at least for the time being.

This thread reminds me of the old balder's gate games, everytime I encountered Drizzl I would kill him and take his stuff. (Polymorphing Elminster into a squirrel was awesome too).

Never liked him, Elminster or the Realms so I don't really care, but the offing of all the Super NPCs can only be good for the setting.

HE IS NOT DEAD!
They put jaraxle in the book! so I am bettin that he is in the players guide.
Also you guys are pretty funny speculators about catti-bri she is not dead either, only changing her role.

How much sence would it really make that he killed himself after catti-bri dies, wouldnt you think that he would have done so after watching his zombie father jump into a acid pit. The rage will carry on, we just do not have the barbarian class yet so we shall have to be patient.

To add to where is drizzt where is Artimis, Wulfgar, and Bruenor?

If we do not get them I am ok with that.

*sighes* He isn't that bad. He mind his own business, he faces his demons, he do the right thing and he is not even 'overpowered' - as much as fanboys or writters make it.

Drizzt is actually a good example of a middle grade PC-folk hero.

But well, it's not bad that way. Adds mystery, and the DM can fit his own vision and ideas.

This is exactly right. He was a decent, if not overused, character.

As to the 4e FR. Do what I do. Treat it as another world entirely. If you want to game in the "old" campaign world with Drizzt, Elminster, and the rest, go ahead. The old book works just as well.

I don't know, but I was laughing at how much more like him the 4E Ranger Class was than the 3.0/3.5 version.

In any case I enjoyed reading his books, and one of the few times I played in the Realms I played a 1/2 Drow Drizzt fanboy, I'm not a fanboy, the character was.

He was a lot of fun to play anytime we got in a tight spot he'd relate it back to a simular situation Drizzt was in and try to get out of it the same way. Most of the time it ended with him getting his ass kicked.

In any case it's not like it's really that useful to have stats for him, the only use he can have in a game is:

"You walk into the tavern and see a Green Cloaked Drow sitting with a huge human, and a Dwarf."

Wasn't a damn thing wrong with Drizzt. If you didn't like him you didn't have to use him. He in no way had to affect your gameplay unles you were so hung up on him.

The only problem is people that want to try to be, play, or emulate iconics. That will never change for ANY game or even life. You always see somebody wanting to be someone else.

I've always wanted to run an FR campaign for my more "FR-Fanboy" players, where, in the end, one of the major NPCs have gone mad, and are the main "villain" of the campaign.

I think surviving a world-shattering event would be enough to justify that madness.

So Drizzt isn't dead. Yet.

Cash cows are much more important than sacred cows, you don't need to worry about:

Baldurs Gate
Icewind Dale
Neverwinter
Elminster
Drizzt

As long as wotc holds the FR IP these things will sticking around.

Still on the map so it is still there, maybe now NWN 3 will be a super dungeon.

AFAIK, I though the NWN line was being dropped after 2.....could be wrong. I know they are coming out with a NWN2 expansion: Storm of Zehir (and also the Westgate pack), which obviously takes place before the spellplague, but beyond that I thought the NWN line was not going into a 3rd version for various licensing reasons.

18DELTA ;)

Conversely this could also be leaving it -up to the dm- if they are -going to be in your game at all- Let's face it, there's always controversy about those two characters even existing. It's a great way to leave it up to the dm. And also discourages the "I want to be Drizzt 2.0" or "Can we meet Drizzt can we can we can we? I want to meet Drizzt he's the coolest npc ever! " syndromes even if subtly. Now if we can solve the "horny elf syndrome" we'd be right up there with makers of the cure for cancer.

Assuming Drizzt is -not- in the book I can think of several ways that he can be done, some do the fanbois service where he's a Solo and some make him a glorified minion if he's there at all.

Or as Greatfrio mentioned (and I didn't even realize he said it) make him into a villain... mauwhahahahahaha Pcs killing Drizzt... some how I can't help but laugh evilly here.

In my Realms game, Drizzt actually died during one of his many sojourns (get it? :rimshot to a disreputable Calimport bath house after slipping on an errant bar of soap and cracking his skull open on some marbel fixture or another.

The owners of the bath house, reluctant to involve the authorities over a dead Drow, simply bundled up the corpse and sold it to a local pig farmer who had a side racket disposing of bodies for the thieves guilds, and pretty soon the most popular Realms character was anonymously feeding a herd of domesticated swine. No one mourned him except his favorite "back scrubber" Pepe'

Soon the legend of Drizzt faded into obscurity and was eventually forgotten completely, except for one lump of petrified swine excrement, which has no magical properties whatsoever, but for some reason still can't get into most cities. It's on a road somewhere along the rode to Amn, and inquisitive and adventurous can seek it out and kick it.

Not true at all. I've run a good many campaigns & adventures set in the realms. And other than the names of various areas, cities, gods, local kings, etc, none of the famous NPCs have ever made an appearance.

The closest a group of my players ever got to meeting one of these NPCs came as they passed through Shadowdale & the bard realized that this was where the famous sage Elminister lived.
After some asking about they got directions to his place & set off to ask a few questions. Unfortunately for them Elminister was out for the day(?) & no one knew when he was going to be in next.
So the party had to settle for seeing Elministers' house.

My God, what the board needs is even more cynical replies about Drizzt...

You guys might want to consider relaxing, as the fact is Drizzt is a popular character, one with a history tied to the campaign setting for many years now.

It's so strange to me that he can be so polarizing... I mean, it's a hobby, a game, a story. Oh well, whatever, to each his own.

For nostalgia sake alone, it'll be cool to see some info on him at some point in 4e. Though it's not something that needs to be priority either.

Then you are very fortunate. When FR came out in 1E, I happily scooped it up and DMd the bejeezus out of it. Everything was fantastic. The feel of the Realms was wonderful, and it was just non-generic enough to have a look of its own...for a while. By the time WotC bought out TSR, I couldn't even begin a game of FR without some moron asking, "where's Drizzt live?", or "let's go see Elminster!". I had to hear that crap time after time until I got sick of it. Between the novels, video games, comic books, etc., Drizzt came to represent the Realms more than anything else going. It got so I couldn't play or run FR without a mention of Drizzt, Elminster, Baldur's Gate, or Shadowdale. Yes, I made novel-info forbidden, and eventually Drizzt vanished from my games...that didn't stop people from looking for him, though. He was a cool concept that just went too far. The old "dark hero with past demons" bit has been a bit too played out for me.

I do not know, all I know is that they even had a better dark elf in some FR books only one series but still Liriel Baenre was a much better main character. Frankly if anything Id rather see her in the realms books, but since Elistrae is not in FR, and Ramshamen blew up I bet shes dead or something, oh well if I ever dm I will be rewriting Elistrae in.
