Ok, so I guess I am making a thread about this after all. And, yes, the title is an intentional play on words.

This is a non-thread derailing continuation of a discussion about the presence of Elven Subraces from Here. Apologies again to Naex for derailing his thread.

It is mentioned in the FRCG. Now, to clear the air, I'd have liked to see it more, but I understand why they did what they did. That said, again, I believe that people who become interested in FR and want to know more will find out and understand very easily.

First of all, I hope like heck that it is in the FRPG although I now begin to doubt it...

You may be right, who knows?

Second, who said I was talking about it in the context of the PC character choices?

The subraces have an effect on NPCs, the current political climate not to mention the blasted history of the Realms? Why should any of those things be in the Players Guide? An example is that nowhere in High Lord Duirsar's NPC description (paltry as it is) does it mention that he is Gold Elven, yet it is obvious in the Archwizards books... and leads into a major argument for retaining it the inter-race tensions. Not only does this challenge history (The Gold/Moon Elf divide has been a contributer to some fair sized conflicts) but it also removes the option of using this in the game unless you already knew about it. That old chestnut is always lying just beneath the surface, why not offer it to new DMs now?

Because the DM's will have to get the Player's Guide, anyway. What we're talking about here is economy of space. Why have a discussion about this if there may already be a discussion of the divisions in the FRPG?

Um, my point wasn't that those things weren't supposed to be in the FRCG... but that considering that those things (as well as other less useful things) did make it into the CG... where was the racial information? Because I would consider that at least as important as some of those.

And if that information appears in the FRPG, then repeating in the FRCG amounts to wasted space. A DM will have to buy both, so why put the same information in both books? Leave the FRCG to be mostly about the regions and such, and the FRPG to be mostly about the people who inhabit those regions.

Statisticaly.

Yet, does that means that the Aerenal and Valenar elves are identic in Eberron, as they share the same base stats (but quite different cultures)?

-As I've said in...three threads now(?), it's not a continued trend that can be good for the setting. Where does it end?

Eladrin killed them and took their stuff.

But the question is, who did they take out first, the sun elves or the moon elves?

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Let me sum things up, here, before I go:

The Moon Elves/Sun Elves/Star Elves/Wood Elves/Wild Elves/etc weren't the only ones who went without mention. The FRCG had nothing or next to nothing on Gold Dwarves, Gray Dwarves, Shield Dwarves, Rock Gnomes, Ghostwise Halflings, Lightfoot Halflings, Strongheart Halflings, Calishites, Chondathans, Damarans, Illuskans, Mulan, Rashemis, Tethyrians, and specific varieties of Genasi.

If one's going to argue that there should've been information on Moon Elves, Star Elves, Sun Elves, Wood Elves, and Wild Elves, then you're likewise arguing that discussion of all those others be included. And if there's discussion on all those others, then that's going to eat up a lot of space which isn't being spent on the main function of the book, which is to talk about the regions in the world. Not to mention that all of that stuff is important player information. And so a book which really isn't supposed to be a players book suddenly becomes a must-have for players, as they'll now need it to get information about their PC race, which once again defeats the whole point.

Of course, you'll get no argument from me that they should've excised Loudwater completely. 30 pages on something which'll be used exactly once is a colossal waste of space. But even if those 30 pages could've encompassed that racial information, I'd still argue against putting it into the FRCG, as that's still vital player information, and a book which is supposed to be primarily for the DM's use shouldn't contain vital player information. The FRPG, which is intended for the player, should contain the vital player information. The DM will have to get both books, anyway, so it's not as if he'll be missing out on information.

Now, will the FRPG have this information? Who knows. The one and only hint I can think of at the moment is that Rich mentioned a "Ghostwise Heritage" Halfling Racial Feat in the book. So I imagine there would be some kind of description of what a Ghostwise Halfling is if that's in the book. And if Ghostwise Halflings are mentioned... well, we'll see. That's my point of view, anyway. Leave the vital player information in the books intended for the players, and keep it out of the books intended for the use of DM's.

I begin to doubt it because instead of actually using the names and putting in a (see page X in the FRPG) they didn't use them at all.

Even in the regional information.
