I sent him a private message asking him about something in my campaign and about getting something permanently attached to the top of the forum and he hasnt responded. In the past when I have he was always very prompt. Anyone know whats up? The thing about getting something permanently attached to the top of the forum can probably wait but the thing about my campaign I could use the help sooner than later.

Well, he wanted to establish himself as new god of magic in the Realms (i.e. admin, and here on these boards), but since Shar (i.e. a WizO or any other guy who has more rights than he has) prevents any being (i.e. user) from doing so, he probably got some goth-problems (i.e. legal action) :D

The clone we're doing of him isn't finished, and the mind-probe hasn't yet revealed his password, so give us a few days and he'll be back, better than ever and far more controllable... with only 30% the calories and no bad transfats. :evillaugh

But if he casts his spell again it will only fizzle - it was designed to take control of the Weave away from Mystra, so NO Weave = Useless Spell.

As for the other stuff, I've seen him posting over at CK for the past few days, so I think he's still around.

Maybe he got banned too... that's where we all end up sooner or later. :P

Why did you think he's been gone for a while? He has to re-research the spell so it works again! You think spells like that just up and write themselves?

(Then again, just move your mouse over the picture next to his name and you have Karsus's Avatar right there....)

By far the best thread on these boards here :D

Anyway, I think the casting of Karsus' Avatar hasn't brought him enough disgrace, for his taste, so this time he tries something even greater, i.e. casting a 13th lvl spell.

No.. it's not.

You yourself have recently experienced how 'liberating' being free of this site can be. By staying away, one learns to appreciate the Realms that much more.

If he is still making himself available over at CK, then so much the better. If he is completely gone for good, then NO, that would be a terrible thing for the community.

Funny... no one even noticed when I was gone for awhile...

-Yes getting banned was a good thing for me. Thats why I have bowed out of this "pointless edition war". I support the Realms regardless the edition. Sure there are things I dislike about the 4E Version, yet I also dislike some parts of the 1E, 2E, and 3E versions. If people want to talk Realmslore or about having a fun game set in the Realms regardless the edition then lets talk. I am currently running a 3E Realms game, plan on running a couple of more before I run a 4E Realms game.

-What I meant about LK "leaving" was I know what happened to KtM for the most part, I remember Dan leaving. I think its unfortunate "if" he did leave.

-Quit being melodramatic Markus. :P

Dunno if it can be helped. 4e just doesn't seem to inspire the masses like it used to, unless we're talking about a tar and feathering of each other. Think they need to roll out some RSE's to get minds off of the whole pro/anti-4e thing so we can all get back to some solid unified negativity.

-Well, the only way to remedy that is by posting more, starting more threads, asking more questions, and so on. I chuckle to myself when people (on this board, and in general) complain about the lack of X- be it activity, drama, whatever- but do nothing to "help" the fact.

Well yeah, but if they help the drama level along, they're likely to get banned, so... a little self-defeating. And despite my best efforts, reasonable discourse is still a long way off on some topics... :D

-I just was using 'drama' as an example, but...Point is, if you want things to be more X (active, happy, yellow, panda bear), take things into your own hands. If you are complaining about X, do (or don't do) X, and be the person to enact change.

Maybe I could skew that and interpret it as LK advocating 'drama' and bickering among the Realms forumites... :evillaugh

-Skew things however you want. It's not as if people haven't taken me saying things and twisted them around to suit the issue du jour.

-The long and the short of it, I already said, so...

I don't want it to be happy

-You don't want things to be happy? Why is that?

-Isn't it more enjoyable to visit a message board in which people are (more or less) getting along, rather than visiting a message board in which people have to look over their proverbial shoulders before posting, knowing anything they say will be, as Stigger was saying, twisted out of context, and used to attack you, or general lies will be made up, and used to attack you, and other kinds of behaviors like that? I know I prefer the first to the second. That's 50% of the reason why I skipped posting here for most of this month.

-Concerning forum traffic, compliance doesn't necessarily go hand-in-hand with activity. In other words, everyone doesn't have to be assimilated into the BORG in order for forum traffic to go up. Most conversations that are worth any salt that go on here stem exactly from two opposing views. Take one example: A discussion I was having with MT, concerning ancient Ilythiir. Reading the same exact book, the same exact page, the same exact paragraph, I saw one thing (I was right, by the way...:incog and he saw something else. If I saw one thing, and he saw the same exact thing, there's about two pages of discussion that never happened.

-I think that, like so many other aspects of life, people are a lot quicker to jump to the "extremist" side of things. For whatever reason, I am reminded of John McCain's concession speech, when the gathered crowd audibly booed and jeered multiple times when McCain mentioned President Elect Obama winning the election. I've never seen coverage of the losing nominee's concession speech before (I saw Kerry conceded in '04 while I was walking home from school, on a taxi, and before that, I was too young to care enough about politics to tune into the loser's concession speech). It spoke to me, though, and reminded me that people are indeed jumping to metaphorical sides, instead of milling around in the middle.

-Anyway, the point of that whole long schpiel is that: (A) Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that you don't have to participate anymore. By and large, I, like you, don't like most of what I've seen, concerning the "new" Forgotten Realms. When conversations come up, that doesn't preclude me from participating. If they're not about the "new" Forgotten Realms, super, I have even more to contribute. If they are, well, I'll see what I can do. (B) Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that you should be spiteful about it. I'm not saying you are, but it's very easy to get into that type of mentality, where, since I can't benefit, no one should. Those people, we call trolls, they came in both pro- and anti- forms, and no one likes them. (C) At the end of the day, things are (or really should be) business as usual. As has been mentioned in various places, contrary to popular belief, Rich Baker is not going to round up the WotC goons and take your books away from you, replacing them with the new ones, and some morphine to keep you quiet. You still have your books, and the same problems/strengths that existed beforehand still exist. We still don't know what Lantan was like. We still don't know what happened to Rowan, the last Ghazneth. There's still plenty of things out there that need to be done (A sourcebook on Elves, a sourcebook concerning Kara-Tur, a sourcebook concerning Cormyr, and various other things). Instead of withdrawing from the community, treat everything as business as normal. The phrase "Not in my Realms" comes to mind. Ignore things you don't like. That's what I do. I don't like it, I ignore it. I still try to be relatively in the know, but I disregard such things from any projects I am working on (for the most part). Keeping that philosophy in mind, nothing has changed. None of those unsolved questions have been answered, and all of those projects that needed doing still need doing. So, no reason to not ask, and do.

-And that, is a mouthful.

(And, keep in mind, I am not singling you out, Merrik, or even necessarily talking about you, per se, as much as I am using the general form of 'you', and talking about nobody in particular.)

-You don't want things to be happy? Why is that?

My only hope for the Realms is the unhappiness with the current Realms

(A) Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that you don't have to participate anymore.

I have no interest in talking about what they now call the Realms. Its awful and is not compelling at all. I will participate in discussions about the old Realms for sure. But certainly, my involvement here will not be the same.

(B) Just because you don't like something doesn't mean that you should be spiteful about it. I'm not saying you are, but it's very easy to get into that type of mentality, where, since I can't benefit, no one should. Those people, we call trolls, they came in both pro- and anti- forms, and no one likes them.

True enough. I am often spiteful in these discussions. It is sometimes hard not to be frankly. But as I said before, I feel the only chance (however slim it is) for the Realms at this point, is the utter failure of the 4e Realms

That is easy and difficult at the same time. Sure, its easy to just toss aside the 4th edition changes and pretend like they never happened. And I am sure many will. But to me, the real loss is the lack of anything new when you do that. I truly enjoyed getting that next sourcebook and digging into it. I enjoyed the discussions here about all the new lore that we got positive or negative. I enjoyed being a part of that. Thats now gone. Thats the real shame. Even more than the time leap. Even more than Mystra's removal or the pointless other changes that were made.

(And, keep in mind, I am not singling you out, Merrik, or even necessarily talking about you, per se, as much as I am using the general form of 'you', and talking about nobody in particular.)

I do not mind being singled out here.

Let's get the topics back on the Realms.
