Where is the Gray Vale?

May 21, 2008 17:11:06 In the first FR module, FR1 Scepter Tower of Spellgard, it states the following:

A mysterious presence has taken up residence in one of the towers of Spellgard, and now its dark minions plague the Gray Vale!

Is there any prior history on the Towers of Spellgard or the Gray Vale. Before I plan to run this for my group, I want to read the history of both the Towers and the Gray Vale.

Yes. The Gray Vale isn't ringing any bells for me, but there's prior information about Spellgard.

Spellgard is also know as Saharelgard, and it's ruled by the ghost (who was once an archlich) Saharel, who was once a lady archmage of Netheril. I believe there is information about Spellgard and Saharel in Lost Empires of Faerun. Saharel also makes in appearance (as a lich, btw) in one of Ed Greenwood's novels, but I forget which one at the moment. I think it might have been in the Shadows of the Avatar series.

I'm sure one of the other posters can give more complete information, but I've told you what I remember.

May 21, 2008 20:15:47 East of the Gray mountains, north of the Graycloak hills, west of Anauroch Desert, and South of the Nether mountains(?). Spellgard is shown as on the edge of the western border of Anauroch and the eastern edge of what I imagine is the Gray Vale.

Gray Mountains have young dragons, goblins, worgs, barghests, while the Fallen Lands are within the vale and consist of in 3e powerful individuals who do not want to be disturbed or something along such thoughts. Spellgard is supposedly a city/castle complex that once housed many magical treasures as well as mundane ones however it supposedly no longer does.

Awww man!! I liked the name Silver Marches.....dang it!

I love the north western part of Faerun the best followed by the cold lands, moonsea areas. Something about those heavily armored and fur cloaked dark knights that is just pleasing plus human barbarians and few wizards. The wilds and the great dangers from monsters, the environment, etc. Better to rule in hell then serve in heaven kind of feeling to those fronteir and colder lands.

Only thing better would be Netheril. I loved that campaign.

Well, Luruar was actually the original name for the Silver Marches. From what I recall, WotC declined to use in in 3E because they thought it would be too hard for people to pronounce.

Indeed. Besides, Marches helps pluralize its existence as a loose confederation of many, rather than Luruar, which makes it sound like one individual nation.

The Grey Vale is the area south of Luruar. It encompasses the town of Loudwater, the High forest, the Direwood, the Southwood, and the Star Peaks. Information on it can be found in the 4E Forgotten Realms players guide, and Campaign guide, and I am putting stuff here for the campaign I am running there.
