| #1naeglosJan 04, 2010 11:24:23 | now that szass tam is the uber-lich of realms, what happened to his superior who was so friendly with mystra? |
| #2sfdragonJan 04, 2010 11:31:07 | larloch is still around, I'd imagine. but if he isnt, its nda |
| #318DELTAJan 04, 2010 15:02:54 | Thats the $1 question.;) |
| #4LordManshoonJan 04, 2010 15:07:56 | Larloch is most likely still around, even if Szass Tam has become the new big, bad undead mage in 4E. He's probably just lurking in the background, becoming ever more powerful and bringing more liches under his control. Hey, maybe now that the Chosen are on the ropes, he'll make a play for the silverfire. I wouldn't mind seeing him knock the Simbul on her arse (she was always my least favorite Sister) and absorbing her soul for sustenance. |
| #5The_SilverswordJan 04, 2010 15:54:58 | Right, id say hes still around. The Rule is, if they dont specifically say that some one or something is gone, then we should assume that its still there. So, i havnt heard anything about Larloch being offed, so im assuming that hes still there. But you know what they say about assuming, it makes an ass out of u and Ming. |
| #6naeglosJan 05, 2010 14:18:26 | simbul and larloch merging into a new deity of magic, sexless, undead and alive, neutral with a touch of evil and chaos, hidden and powerfull, scheming and yet impulsive ![]() sounds great to me! but i doubt if realms would see a deity of magic as potentially contreversial as a sexless deity (and no ghaunadar doesnt count, everyone knows he is just an impotent -should i say jelly like - male) |
| #7LordManshoonJan 05, 2010 15:02:33 |
I don't think a sexless deity would ruffle too many feathers, at least amongst the gaming community (not its critics). I mean, Corellon is a dual-gendered, androgynous deity, and not many people bat an eye at that anymore. Plus, the gods are technically beyond the mortal concepts of "sex" and "gender", anyway; almost all the gods favor one side of the coin, but they could switch over to the other if they so desired. So, I could see a sexless one finding a place without too much opposition. But, that's just me. |

I wouldn't mind seeing him knock the Simbul on her arse (she was always my least favorite Sister) and absorbing her soul for sustenance. I know that they were guarded in their mutual interactions... Larloch and the various Chosen of Mystra, but did they ever have true full-on animosity? I read Seven Sisters or something similar where Larloch spoke with one of the sisters and asked to see silver fire (and she did humor him), but there wasn't any hint of a fight. Just more a sort of... hunger from Larloch for a magic he didn't possess. Personally, I've always seen Larloch as disconnected from mortal interests. Not evil per se, although he's written up as LE, just as a being that's completely beyond the concerns of mortal life because he's so immensely powerful. I can't imagine that they'd ever get rid of him, and if they did it'd be a huge mistake. Nor can I really see Szass Tam as ever being more powerful than Larloch. |

I think you're recalling Tears So White, from Realms of the Elves. That, to my knowledge, is Larloch's only appearance in a story. I don't believe he considers the Chosen enemies; given his nature and his role in Tears, I imagine he views them merely as obstacles, and only in an immediate, short-term sense. His hunger for power seemed to be kept in check by his survival instincts; he didn't want to go toe-to-toe with a battle-eager Simbul. However, the Simbul nowadays is quite weaker than her past glory. If Larloch was still around and retained his own magical might, suddenly obtaining the silverfire would become a more viable goal. Then again, he might just decide the fire isn't necessarily something worth pursuing with Mystra gone. He'd probably spend months weighing the potential gain and cost. Personally, I've always seen Larloch as disconnected from mortal interests. Not evil per se, although he's written up as LE, just as a being that's completely beyond the concerns of mortal life because he's so immensely powerful. I get the same feeling, although I'm not sure he's completely unconcerned with what the rest of the world has to offer. His active role in TSW made me think he still paid close attention to the affairs of other powerful mages; given the chaos of the Spellplague, I could see Larloch being much more alert, keeping to his Crypt for the past century and watching what became of magic-users (while also rebuilding his own strength). I think that even if Larloch is inclined to keep to himself, the magical catastrophe would have forced him to keep an eye on the Realms, if just for his own peace of mind. I can't imagine that they'd ever get rid of him, and if they did it'd be a huge mistake. Nor can I really see Szass Tam as ever being more powerful than Larloch. Agreed. I'm not too keen on Szass Tam suddenly being the pinnacle of magical strength in the Realms. One of the most powerful mages, sure, but not the unparalleled demigod he's been made out to be. |
| #10sfdragonJan 05, 2010 17:45:02 | is evilness was his enslavement of the other liches and dealings with his undead army..... hahaha, but he did have his own goals... I wonder how the spellplague set him back.. |
| #11yakmanJan 06, 2010 9:12:12 | he may well have finally gone Archlich and spends his time traipsing around the planes. or he might be sitting in his tower still, plotting and trying to divine the secrets of existence. or the shades might have tried to destroy him and succeeded or they tried and failed and now he rules the shade empire or he might have been sucked into Abeir and is busy there anything you want, really. |
| #1218DELTAJan 06, 2010 9:26:46 | He has a cameo(;)) in Ed's short story the 'Many Murders of Manshoon'. Its in Realms of the Dead. |
| #13AegeriJan 11, 2010 20:24:15 | I would assume actually that the chosen and spellplague getting whacked off would advance a creature like Larlochs plots. I don't think he's the sort to have been caught entirely unawares by such an event and with his main magical opponents that could challenge him dead, depowered or insane that's a major opportunity. |

I don't see why Larloch would have some knowledge beyond what those two might have had. Then again, it is possible. |
| #15The_SilverswordJan 11, 2010 22:34:38 | Well Larloch is Netherese, and as i understand they didnt rely too much on the Weave for magic if at all, So im guessing that the Spellplauge didnt bother him that much, maybe hes got a spellscar now or something? |
| #16LordManshoonJan 11, 2010 22:37:10 | maybe hes got a spellscar now or something? Why not? Everyone and their brother seems to have one. I might send a few of my spare old-model clones to the Plaguewrought Land. You know, see if I can upgrade my outdated models.... through trial-by-fire. ![]() |
| #17The_SilverswordJan 11, 2010 22:51:29 | I might send a few of my spare old-model clones to the Plaguewrought Land. You know, see if I can upgrade my outdated models.... through trial-by-fire. Excellent idea, im sure some of them would survive and get spellscarred. So are you affiliated with the Order of Blue Fire now? Thats just a cover for one of your little side projects isnt it? I freakin knew it!!! |
| #18LordManshoonJan 11, 2010 23:12:03 | I might send a few of my spare old-model clones to the Plaguewrought Land. You know, see if I can upgrade my outdated models.... through trial-by-fire. The Order of Blue Fire? Those militant sharn-lovers? They're not one of my own organizations. They're merely in Column B, with basically every other non-Column A group: organizations that I secretly manipulate to my own benefit. ![]() Incidentally, I think I might make an alliance with Larloch. We can't let that red-headed b_____d child that is Szass Tam hog all the spotlight. |
| #19sfdragonJan 13, 2010 21:00:23 | so... If I were to cast Karsus's avatar in the plaguelands, what ya think would happen? |
| #20LordManshoonJan 13, 2010 21:07:43 | so... If I were to cast Karsus's avatar in the plaguelands, what ya think would happen? ... You'd become an aboleth instead. An aboleth who worships Shar instead of The Eldest. ![]() |
| #21creyzi4zb12Jan 17, 2010 20:39:11 | I've always thought of Larloch as a neutral guy....even tho he is aligned LE....He doesn't seem to be the type who likes to fight. I think there was a point where Ed said that Larloch and Mystra work together to preserve magic...Mebbe that's why he gave Szass those artifacts. |
| #22ampithereJan 21, 2010 19:26:00 | First of all, Netheril has a clearly defined ruler. It isn't Larloch. Second, and more important, the main idea here seems to be that he has become somewhat inactive. I don't see that happening. I'd imagine that the return of Netheril would at least intrigue him, if not draw forth emotions he hasn't had in a very long time. I suspect that he is around, and when he makes his first official 4e appearance, it will likely involve Netheril in one way or another. Then again, everything involves them now. |
| #23Nai_CalusJan 22, 2010 1:05:30 | So, Where In The World Is Carmen SanDiego, or Where's Waldo? Which should we rip off? Also, the answer to what happened with Larloch and where he is is simple: I ate him. |
| #24sfdragonJan 22, 2010 9:59:19 | youreally want to know where he is? He is over there, plotting your demise. |
