| #1LashanJan 13, 2011 13:19:37 | Hi All, I've got a ton of old FR material. I've got books and boxed sets. I think I've got all the Volo's Guides books. They are all 3.5 and older. I don't play DnD anymore as I've moved on to Warhammer. If I did move back to DnD, I think I would rather play Greyhawk. So, I don't mind giving up on my precious Forgotten Realms books. So, besides ebay, is there some sort of place I can sell these books? I know there has to be some sort of online site that buys them. I don't want to go through the hassle and uncertainty of ebay. Is there some sort of business that buys them? I'm not posting here to peddle my wares, so I hope it isn't off topic. I'm not trying to disrupt the forums. They are all Out of Print stuff. Not competing with the newer stuff. Thanks! Lashan |

| #5LashanJan 13, 2011 15:06:15 | Well, there is the Warhammer Role Playing Game and there is the Warhammer Fantasy Battle game. They are set in the same game world, but seperate games. In fact, Games Workshop (the original company) sold the RP game rights to another company to focus purely on the mini wargame market. So, Warhammer Role Playing game = don't know much about. It's set in one of the best detailed fantasy worlds out there, though. Warhammer Fantasy Battle = great game with minis and painting and all sorts of stuff. They just came out with 8th Ed. I can go into more detail about the game world if you want. It's dark and gritty. |

| #7LashanJan 14, 2011 12:36:30 | Well, let it be known that there are two versions of Warhammer. The standard fantasy one and Warhammer 40k (years in the future). The second is basically fantasy in space. Early versions kind of merged the two with the Fantasy world having a Sci Fi link. In the space one, space travel is done through folding space by travelling through "the Warp". This is raw chaos. Humanity discovered that there are intelligences and craziness in the Warp and if you weren't proberly shielded, you could go mad...or even mutate. OK....enter Fantasy. The world was ruled in the Mists of Time by the Old Ones, a superior race that no one knows what they were like. Early versions have them as a space race that used magnetic poles of the planets to open holes in the warp to travel. The Old Ones created the servitor races before some climactic catastrophe ruined their Empire. They are all gone. The Lizardmen and Elves were the mightiest servant races. The accident left the Warp Gate open on the North Pole and raw Chaos spills forth constantly. This has caused those near the north to warp and mutate. Four entities slipped through and became the Ruinous Four Chaos Gods (one for Rage, Lust, Power, and Decay). They summoned many lessor demons, as well. The mightest servents of the Old Ones found themselves attacked by the Demons. The Lizardmen and High Elves got into a war with them. They won, but the Lizardmen civilization was wrecked. They became a shell of their former glory living in ruined cities in the jungles of South America (Lustria). The Elves lived on, but got into a war with the Dwarfs that weakened both. The Elves then had a schism due to chaos corruption at the heart of their society and split in a great civil war into High Elves and Dark Elves. Also, some elves stayed in the Old World (Europe) and lived within great forests with spirits to become Wood Elves. Dwarves were weakened in the War of the Beards with the elves, but then suffered from massive earthquakes that tore their underground empire apart. Through the gaps came lots of goblins and a race of mutated ratmen called Skaven. The dwarven empire went into decline. At this point, the Old World is mostly suffereing under Greenskin domination. The various human tribes survive, but do not thrive. A great man arises from one of the major tribes of man called Sigmar. He takes the fight to the Orcs and Goblins. During a raid, he frees a dwarven king and humans and dwarfs become allies. The great warhammer is given to the Emperor. Sigmar units the tribes of man and defeats the Greenskins at the Battle for Black Fire Pass. Sigmar forges an empire of man with the 12 tribes each getting a province. When the emperor dies, they vote on who the new one is. With his laws set, Sigmar walks into the wilderness to disappear. Soon, a cult arises around him and he becomes the God of the Empire. OK.....so, this is just the back story for the campaign world. There is a TON of fluff as to how it all is now. It's crudely set to look like our world. The Empire is based losely on the Holy Roman Empire (abolished by Neopoleon) that existed in the German states for hundreds of years. The Empire has bickering provinces that band together for mutual defense. France is known as Brettonia and is an independant kingdom. It's basically medieval france. Kislev is a small nation on the borders of the Chaos Wastes of the north and is much like Poland or Russia. Tilea is Italy and has numerous warring city states. The lands to the east are badlands filled with Orcs, Goblins, Skaven, mutated Chaos Dwarfs, and worse. The Ogre Kingdoms lie beyond that wasteland. Humanity fights forces from Chaos from the outside. There are evil cults to the Ruinous powers that rot away at the heart of the Empire from within. The Skaven plot in a dark parody called the Under Empire and most think them a mere myth and child's tale. Humans who have been mutated by chaos have fled into the woods and Chaos Beastmen rule the dark forests of the Empire. Goblins and Orcs bubble down from the mountains to wreck havoc with their mighty Waaaghs! Only the Empire hold humantiy together and the Church of Sigmar and it's Witch Hunters to purge the empire from within. Did I mention that it's really cool? That's just a quick snippet. I could go on for hours.... |
