| #1tkxmuseOct 08, 2009 6:56:44 | After seeing a few threads where people ask about which god a character should follow, here's a game. I'll come up with a few characters and you can give me suggestions to what god they should follow.
Havestra - Eladrin Warlock who sold her soul for power, a typical power-hungry person who seeks to challenge herself and her magic. (Chaotic Neutral) Cvallin - Human ranger who left behind his homeland of Deep Imaskar, he has a hatred of magic because he saw his brother dying in an magical experiment. (Lawful Good) Sarrora - Human cleric, she was once a hathran but was forced to leave Rashemen after freeing countless hagspawn from an execution by her fellow hathrans. (Chaotic Good) Winkle - A halfling rogue/sorcerer who used to work for an assassin's guild before being expelled for a failed assassination on a wizard. After that encounter, he has been inspired, and strives to discover the secrets of magic. (Chaotic Neutral) Krasor - Human Wizard, a person with a twisted childhood, he is emotionally scarred. He craves power over others and focuses on enchanting magic and domination spells. (Chaotic Evil) |

| #3The_SilverswordOct 08, 2009 8:48:40 | Oooh ill play! Havestra - i dont really see warlocks picking gods, IMO the beings they make pacts with take the place of gods, but if he really wanted a god, because of the power hungryness, id go with Bane Asmodeus Cvallin - Ranger. Silvanus or Mielikki, or possibly Hoar if he was out for revenge. Sarrora - Soft spot for those that suffer, defintly Ilmater Winkle - Tymora's a good one for halflings and rogues as well, possibly Oghma because of the quest for magical Knowledge Krasor - This guy, Shar, definatly Shar. |

Her personality may seem compatible with Bane, but her nature (CN) sure isn't. Honestly, there isn't really an ideal deity for this character. She's better off just worshipping the pantheon in general, or sticking to the entity that granted her that magic. EDIT: Although, thinking on it more, you could look into Garagos. He was CN before the 4E change, and like Hoar, retains his old nature even if he's now considered CE. He's a master of skill-at-arms, but it's possible he might be interested in a magic-user who reveres his doctrine. Especially if she goes around challenging others to strengthen herself and reaps great rewards from it. This is, in my opinion, as good as it'll get. Cvallin - Human ranger who left behind his homeland of Deep Imaskar, he has a hatred of magic because he saw his brother dying in an magical experiment. (Lawful Good) Hoar, if you want to play up the revenge angle. Don't let Hoar's "Evil" label fool you; he's still as Lawful Neutral as they come. If you want to focus on his Ranger nature, go for Mielikki, the traditional patron of Rangers. Amaunator or Torm are also good choices, the former if Cvallin weighs order and nature over justice and law, the latter if it's the opposite. Sarrora - Human cleric, she was once a hathran but was forced to leave Rashemen after freeing countless hagspawn from an execution by her fellow hathrans. (Chaotic Good) She would typically worship The Three: Mielikki, Chauntea, and Selune (formerly Mystra). Again, Mielikki is all about forests and forest creatures, Chauntea is about the land and life, and Selune is about the moon and freedom. Judging by her nature, I sense she's a pacifist of sorts. Chauntea and Selune edge out Mielikki, in that case. There's also Eldath, the goddess of peace and tranquility. She became an Archfey with the 4E change, but you can easily turn her back into a goddess (or accept her as an Archfey). Winkle - A halfling rogue/sorcerer who used to work for an assassin's guild before being expelled for a failed assassination on a wizard. After that encounter, he has been inspired, and strives to discover the secrets of magic. (Chaotic Neutral) Oghma would work, since he's Neutral and inspires discovery and research. He's also seeking to uncover secrets, even those of magic. Selune would also work, since she helped spawn the Weave by creating Mystra. She still retains a bond of sorts with magic. That's if Winkle is more benevolent than he is otherwise. If he's more malevolent, Shar's the better choice. He wouldn't be too reverent; just pious enough to skim her magic lore. Given his nature and past, he'd be hard-pressed to earn Tymora's fickle favor. Your best bet, though, is probably Brandobaris, halfling god of thievery, who champions rogues and aids them in their ventures. Krasor - Human Wizard, a person with a twisted childhood, he is emotionally scarred. He craves power over others and focuses on enchanting magic and domination spells. (Chaotic Evil) Cyric is a lunatic who seeks domination; he even considers himself the mightiest of all gods, on par with Ao. He's also emotionally and mentally scarred, so there's a ready bond between the two. Shar has also been known to prey on the unstable. |
| #5gomeztooOct 08, 2009 9:28:06 | Havestra - Asmodeus, or maybe Lolth (possibly in disguise) Cvallin - Grumbar Sarrora - Tymora Winkle - Brandobaris Krasor - Shar |
| #6The_SilverswordOct 08, 2009 15:34:04 | Thats right Asmodeus is a god now, i completly forgot about him. Ive got to go with Gomez on that one. |
| #7LordManshoonOct 08, 2009 16:07:41 |
Oddly enough, I was aware of that while writing my response, yet I ignored it. I wonder why... ![]() |
| #8The_SilverswordOct 08, 2009 16:36:37 |
Well i think the key word there is that you ignored it. |
| #9LordManshoonOct 08, 2009 16:50:07 |
Hey, I like my eggs scrambled, my coffee black, my gods divine, and my Archdevils infernal. 4E made a blunder in raising Asmo, says I, whose opinion is objective and universally true. ![]() |

| #11tkxmuseOct 08, 2009 23:13:10 | Nice answers guys, try out these guys, they are an adventuring party (I'll try to make them more... difficult): Kavorg Steelmourn - A dwarf sorcerer, he was exiled by his own people after killing his entire family in a spell gone wrong. After being exiled, he harbors a hatred for his people for "wronging" him. After years of travel on the road, he reaches the city of silverymoon and finally finds others who accept his magical talent. (Chaotic Good) Hazel Thorn - A girl from a small village in the Silver Marches, she has always dreamed of fighting dragons, seeing the great wizards and slaying the shades of far-off netheril. She has never come closer to that dream before when she joins an adventuring band. She is a Human Rogue. (Chaotic Good) Faustus Klli - A tiefling wizard with anger management issues, he was raised among humans and taught the ways of the arcane by a village mage. He joined an adventuring band after leaving his hometown for greater power. Deep inside, he doubts himself, thinking that the time when he is put to the test, he might fall to the evil that has been in his blood. (True Neutral) Morphus - A doppelganger rogue, he was found outside the home of a waterdhavian noble family and that family took him as one of their own. Raised among nobility, he learnt the ways of diplomacy, intimidation and politics. One day, his family was killed during a sahaugin raid and he blames himself for being unable to save them... (Chaotic Good) |

Havestra - Eladrin Warlock (Chaotic Neutral) - Asmodeus - I could see her being tempted very easily into diabolism Cvallin - Human ranger (Lawful Good) - Bahamut - he could be devoted to bringing about justice and protecting the weak - a consideration his sibling never received. Sarrora - Human cleric (Chaotic Good) - Tymora - she clearly has Luck to thank for surviving a fate which claimed others Winkle - Halfling rogue/sorcerer (Chaotic Neutral) - Shar - seems a natural deity to inspire a rogue as well as one thirsting for arcane knowledge Krasor - Human Wizard (Chaotic Evil) - Bane - the Lord of Tyrrany could be a role model for this wizard's malevolent need for control

Kavorg Steelmourn - A Dwarf sorcerer (Chaotic Good) - Berronar Truesilver - his tragic beginnings could leave him angry for being ousted by his people, but he would have to be anguished over the deaths of his family and "storming the heavens" asking Berronar how his family could have been so easily taken from him. Hazel Thorn - a Human Rogue. (Chaotic Good) - polytheistic but mostly revering Tymora, Brandobaris, Erevan Ilsere, Baervan Wildwanderer, Vergedain - as a true adventuring spirit she would embrace new things openly and joyously, collecting gods like a child would collect pretty rocks wherever she went (regardless of racial distinctions). She'd call upon whichever deity could most help her in a given moment, but tending to focus on the roguish and lucky ones first. Faustus Klli - A tiefling wizard (True Neutral) - Oghma - his uncertain nature would drive him to trust more in written knowledge than in himself. Any failure would be met with an angry and obsessive review of scrolls and scribbled notes in his spellbook - tearing at pages, and writing new notes in hopes of doing it right the next time. Morphus - A doppelganger rogue (Chaotic Good) - Kelemvor & Ilmater - the tragedy of losing his family would drive him to question Death and the nature of Suffering. He would become quite morose and filled with ennui, constantly questioning why he should go on - he could become quite "goth" about everything, and it would reflect in his mutable flesh. |
| #14The_SilverswordOct 09, 2009 6:47:29 | Kavorg Steelmourn - Dugmaren Brightmantle Hazel Thorn - Tymora Faustus Klli - Selune Morphus - Siamorphe |
| #15LordManshoonOct 09, 2009 7:05:44 |
Racial hatred? He wouldn't find any mercy from the Mordinsamman, so dwarf gods, with the possible exception of Abbathor, who is evil and would attempt to use him, wouldn't take too kindly with him. Try Ilmater. He's the god of suffering and endurance, which Kavorg has displayed for "years of travel" after his exile. Ilmater encourages the strength to weather anything, with the hope that things improve, which has been Kavorg's case. Hazel Thorn - A girl from a small village in the Silver Marches, she has always dreamed of fighting dragons, seeing the great wizards and slaying the shades of far-off netheril. She has never come closer to that dream before when she joins an adventuring band. She is a Human Rogue. (Chaotic Good) Tymora, without a doubt. CG, young, ambitious, has wild dreams, and is a rogue. That just screams for the Lady of Luck, who is the most noticeable CG goddess, encourages people to pursue even their wildest dreams, and is a championed goddess of adventurers. Faustus Klli - A tiefling wizard with anger management issues, he was raised among humans and taught the ways of the arcane by a village mage. He joined an adventuring band after leaving his hometown for greater power. Deep inside, he doubts himself, thinking that the time when he is put to the test, he might fall to the evil that has been in his blood. (True Neutral) Interesting... Try Selune. She's known to aid lycanthropes in overcoming their bestial instincts. She would do the same for a Tiefling who fears he cannot control his fiendish heritage. She's also a goddess of spellcasters. Morphus - A doppelganger rogue, he was found outside the home of a waterdhavian noble family and that family took him as one of their own. Raised among nobility, he learnt the ways of diplomacy, intimidation and politics. One day, his family was killed during a sahaugin raid and he blames himself for being unable to save them... (Chaotic Good) Siamorphe. The Goddess of Nobility encourages skill in all three fields which Morphus learned in his adopted family. She also desires the preservation of noble lines, and since Morphus, even though he is adopted, is a member of the family, she'd prefer to see him well off. |

Excellent point my friend! I almost picked Abbathor and i thought of Fenmarel as the god of outcasts as well, but even though 4e has done away with racial pantheons, i still couldnt see him worshipping an elf. He is poed at his people, but i took that to mean his tribe, not all dwarves in general. I thought Dugmaren fit because he is a scholarly type and a wanderer, but he is still very Dwarven, so yes Ilmater might indeed be a better fit. |

Asmodeus or Bane. Malkizid or a very powerful Feyri as his pact patron would be interesting. A nice twist would be the demon Wendonai perhaps. Cvallin - Human ranger who left behind his homeland of Deep Imaskar, he has a hatred of magic because he saw his brother dying in an magical experiment. (Lawful Good) Imaskari are generally godless/faithless. I wonder though. Could it be that the new Imaskari empire has adapted to follow the local pantheon near the Old Empires? Lathander used to be seen as the head of the localized pantheon* in Chessenta so Aumanator might have had a chance to prosetylise among some of the noble castes in Imaskar. I do wonder how the designers have thaught about this question... *Others are Tempus, Liira, Milil, Gond, Selune, Umberlee, Silvanus, Waukeen and Hoar Sarrora - Human cleric, she was once a hathran but was forced to leave Rashemen after freeing countless hagspawn from an execution by her fellow hathrans. (Chaotic Good) Liira is a proponent of freedom so she might have influenced her in dreamvisions. Winkle - A halfling rogue/sorcerer who used to work for an assassin's guild before being expelled for a failed assassination on a wizard. After that encounter, he has been inspired, and strives to discover the secrets of magic. (Chaotic Neutral) Cyric or Brandobaris. Cyric if he want to grow in magic power to become a better assassin. Brandobaris if he wants the magic to be more free. Krasor - Human Wizard, a person with a twisted childhood, he is emotionally scarred. He craves power over others and focuses on enchanting magic and domination spells. (Chaotic Evil) Shar or Cyric. Shar if he uses his wizardry to bring the same loss he had to others. Magic to use as a tool for social control leads to strife eventually so Cyric might have sway over his heart. |
| #18Doombringer_of_HoarOct 12, 2009 3:33:34 | Havestra - Eladrin Warlock (Chaotic Neutral) - Hoar Cvallin - Human ranger (Lawful Good) - Hoar Sarrora - Human cleric (Chaotic Good) - Hoar Winkle - Halfling rogue/sorcerer (Chaotic Neutral) - Hoar Krasor - Human Wizard (Chaotic Evil) - Hoar |
| #19Nai_CalusOct 12, 2009 5:11:09 | I see I have competition for 'most blindly devoted to following a particular deity, whether or not it makes any sense' |
| #20The_SilverswordOct 12, 2009 21:15:19 |
Well i could see Corellon having a broader appeal. Hoar is a very specialized god. Where as Corellon is not only god of the elves but of Magic as well. I could see alot of Mystras followers going with Corellon after her "death". |
| #21Doombringer_of_HoarOct 20, 2009 5:24:54 | Makes perfect sense to me. The Doombringer accepts all into his flock, elves, gnomes, halflings, it doesn't matter to Hoar. |
| #22merrikcaleOct 21, 2009 11:06:41 | Havestra - Eladrin Warlock who sold her soul for power, a typical power-hungry person who seeks to challenge herself and her magic. (Chaotic Neutral)
Cvallin I would go Silvanus. The wizard should go with Shar or Cyruc. It may be interesting to have the cleric a Selunite if the Wizard is a Sharran. The hin should probably stick with Brandobaris |
