#1 TirikTheRogue Aug 11, 2015 11:06:36	Hey everyone!   I've been away from d&d for a few years now.. But recently I stopped off my local Barnes & Nobles to see what came out, and after buying a few books, it sucked me back into Forgotten Realms.. I'm currently reading "Shadows Witness" by Paul Kemp, along with a cpl other books like "The Gossamer Plain" by Thomas Reid, and "Brimstone Angels" by Erin Evans.. I know he Paul Kemp book is pretty old, but I'v ealready read the Erevis Cale Trilogy someyears back, and left off on "Shadowbreed" but I've always wanted to go back and read Shadows Witness..  Not that I need to explain myself, of course, lol.   Last night, I thought that maybe reading 2 of the 3 books was probably a waste of time now, since one was set in the old 3rd edition, and the other is set after the war of the spider queen around the time 4th edition came out.. Then i started to think that maybe I should focus on reading more recent up to date books that follow 5th edition..   I did do some research on my own and found out that "The Sundering" series is probably where I should start off at, but I'm not entirely sure.. I know that some of the books are a continuation of certain characters like Drizzy, Cale, Farideh, etc.. So, I can't jump in and read those books until I play catch up on the Drizzt, Cale, and Farideh novels..   As of the Drizzt books, it appears I left off on, "The Orc King" book 1 of transitions.. So, I'm wondering what I should do..   Any help would be appreciated. And, for future reference, which books should I read in order that start at the end of 4th edition and into 5th edition?   Thank you!
#2 Mr_Miscellany Aug 21, 2015 13:39:23	I'd say The Sundering series is the way to go. This way you can meet back up with some of your favorite characters, and perhaps find new favorites, before deciding which books/characters to pursue now that we're in 5E.   Welcome back!
#3 Kahless Aug 21, 2015 19:26:06	The Transitions books are very good as you get to see Salvatore put to rest some of his wonderful characters. Continue with Gauntlgrym (Neverwinter Saga) for a few others (Bruenor's end is particularly awesomely dwarf-like!). I believe The Sundering begins after Neverwinter (for Drizzt). I haven't read any of the other characters yet, and then the Companions Codex continues with Drizzt after The Sundering. The latest book is Greenwood's new Elminster book "Spellstorm".
