#1 neuroglyph Nov 10, 2009 23:52:35	Was curious if anyone has been using the White Lotus Academy (Dragon 374) in their Realms campaign? My player really wanted to draw on the Academy as a Character Background, so I came up with the idea that the Academy was founded a few years after the Spell-Plague by the followers of Mystra and Azuth, who have taken a more militant and somewhat secular view on magical studies.  Some of the trainers even include Halruaan exiles who were outside the country when the Plague hit. I decided that for protection purposes, the location of the Academy is remote and unknown to anyone.  "Gatekeepers" are agents of the White Lotus, usually Wizards or Warlocks, tasked with finding new youngsters that could be students there.  They test the potential student, and if found acceptable, use a Linked Portal Ritual to send them to the Academy.  There are Gatekeepers in almost every major city on Toril, recruiting for the Academy. I enjoy using the Academy as a hook, since they could tap their alumni to deal with issues. Anyone else use this group?
#2 The_Silversword Nov 11, 2009 1:17:21	Interesting concept you got goin there. So do they still follow Mystra and Azuth, even though theryre dead? Or is it more of like they follow the teachings but not necessarily worshipping the gods? I liked that you have some Halruuans in there, I really miss Halruua. I havnt used the White Lotus Acedemy in any of games yet, but they do have some good ideas in there. If I do end up using it, I will probably just incorporate it into an exsisting wizard academy, like the Mages guild of Waterdeep. Then again you do have a pretty cool idea there, I just might use that.
#3 neuroglyph Nov 11, 2009 9:38:20	It's more that they follow the ideals of their deceased gods - kinda keeping the dream alive - but in a more secular environment.  I always figured the followers of Mystra and Azuth are pretty grounded and wouldn't spend decades planning the rebirth of their gods, especially when the Weave went to hell in a handbasket.  I think the Academy would be a force to help fix the problems left in the wake of the Spell-Plague, and that it would be something to unite these groups under one cause.
