| #1the_wrath_of_talosJul 10, 2008 15:49:01 | Maybe its been posted some where before but I must of missed it. When Mystra died who took her portfolio? By the way how did she die? I read the Thay series but they didn't go in to detail about her demise. At least not that I got out of it. |
| #2xhereticxJul 10, 2008 15:51:58 | They haven't announced it yet but judging by the circumstances in core and the new importance of the Feywild I'm guessing its Corellon. |
| #3sfdragonJul 10, 2008 16:01:00 | the core deities can go to baator...... CL should be good, not unaligned... anyway my guess is selune |
| #4the_wrath_of_talosJul 10, 2008 16:02:37 | They haven't announced it yet but judging by the circumstances in core and the new importance of the Feywild I'm guessing its Corellon. So are they saying Corellon just took over the power and responsibility or did Corellon kill/destroy Mystra? |
| #5xhereticxJul 10, 2008 16:05:16 | So are they saying Corellon just took over the power and responsibility or did Corellon kill/destroy Mystra? No, Cyric (and Shar) killed Mystra. There is no real evidence about who the new god of magic is, I'm just guessing Corellon because he's the new god of magic in core and WoTC's recent trend shows a tendency to adapt events in core into FR. Its speculation and nothing more. Sfdragon: There already is a core deity in Baator as of 4e if you haven't forgotten;) . |
| #6the_wrath_of_talosJul 10, 2008 16:12:31 | No, Cyric (and Shar) killed Mystra. Its speculation and nothing more. So if Cyric and Shar killed her why wouldn't they get the portfolio? Dont you get anything for killing a god anymore? If I did all the work of planning and killing one of the most powerful deities in the Pantheons I wouldn't just hand off the power to someone who seems more suitable for it. |
| #7xhereticxJul 10, 2008 16:20:32 | So if Cyric and Shar killed her why wouldn't they get the portfolio? Dont you get anything for killing a god anymore? Cyric was the one who actually commited the murder so only he would get the right, and he got imprisoned on his home plane for 1000 years as punishment for setting off the Spellplague. Apparently there are a lot of special rules around the goddess of magic position that make it a special case. Maybe it can only be passed on, not obtained. Who knows, there may be no god that controls all magic in 4e because the position is too unstable. |
| #8the_wrath_of_talosJul 10, 2008 16:27:11 | I see, where did you read or hear about all of this? I would really like to read that book. Does the imprisonment of Cyric affect his faithful at all? I've been waiting for quite awhile for the sequel of the Gosimar plane to come out did they postpone that due to Cyrics imprisonment? |
| #9GreenKnightJul 10, 2008 16:31:32 | The Grand History of the Realms. Does the imprisonment of Cyric affect his faithful at all? Nope. He's just locked up in The Supreme Throne (his godly domain, not the actual throne), and can't leave it. |
| #10the_wrath_of_talosJul 10, 2008 16:33:06 | The Grand History of the Realms. Thank you I will definetly have to check out that book. |
| #11mister_mxyztplkJul 10, 2008 16:50:46 | Cyric was the one who actually commited the murder so only he would get the right, and he got imprisoned on his home plane for 1000 years as punishment for setting off the Spellplague. Apparently there are a lot of special rules around the goddess of magic position that make it a special case. Maybe it can only be passed on, not obtained. Cyric was not allowed to become the new god of magic, since his name would have had to change to Myster, and thats just silly. :P While Corellon may have the portfolio of magic, he is not the god of the weave, and will not have the power to cut people off from their magic. As of the destruction of the weave, no one may claim that level of power. |
| #12xhereticxJul 10, 2008 16:55:13 | Cyric was not allowed to become the new god of magic, since his name would have had to change to Myster, and thats just silly. :P Yep, that's what I was thinking too. Corellon may have become the primary god of magic in the Faerunian Pantheon (which is probably the only pantheon left in existance... ), he dosen't control the reality of magic since he has no conduit from which he can modulate it like Mystra did. |
| #13mister_mxyztplkJul 10, 2008 16:58:46 | Yep, that's what I was thinking too. Corellon may have become the primary god of magic in the Faerunian Pantheon (which is probably the only pantheon left in existance... Great minds think alike. ![]() |
| #14xhereticxJul 10, 2008 17:00:48 | Great minds think alike. Indeed ![]() Which makes me wonder, who is going to have control over magic on the Shadowfell side? |
| #15mister_mxyztplkJul 10, 2008 17:04:41 | Indeed Hmm........conflict between Corellon and Shar? He does have a way with the ladies. |
| #16xhereticxJul 10, 2008 17:06:38 | Hmm........conflict between Corellon and Shar? He does have a way with the ladies. Nah, I have a feeling Shar's gonna stay low over the new century due to her part in the Spellweave and the waxing power of her sister Selune. I was thinking Kelemvor, since he is the God of the Dead, but I would love to see Myrkul brought back for that purpose. |
| #17mister_mxyztplkJul 10, 2008 17:15:15 | Nah, I have a feeling Shar's gonna stay low over the new century due to her part in the Spellweave and the waxing power of her sister Selune. There are at least several gods I would like to see return, but the current trend is to lay off gods. A pity, that moander awaiting a divine spark adverture hook in powers of faerun had such potential. |
| #18xhereticxJul 10, 2008 17:18:14 | There are at least several gods I would like to see return, but the current trend is to lay off gods. A pity, that moander awaiting a divine spark adverture hook in powers of faerun had such potential. Well, they are only laying off "minor" gods, which Myrkul certainly was not. They are all just exarchs and minions to the more "important" gods now. So there is still a chance... |
| #19mister_mxyztplkJul 10, 2008 17:23:41 | Well, they are only laying off "minor" gods, which Myrkul certainly was not. They are all just exarchs and minions to the more "important" gods now. So there is still a chance... Its a slippery slope my friend. Soon there will only be The One God. And Mina. |
| #20xhereticxJul 10, 2008 17:24:59 | Its a slippery slope my friend. Soon there will only be The One God. And Mina. Last I heard from her she was at a sushi bar with the High God.;) |
| #21mister_mxyztplkJul 10, 2008 17:29:54 | Last I heard from her she was at a sushi bar with the High God.;) The High God is her new sugar daddy? All Im saying is that she really does get around when it comes to gods. |
| #22xhereticxJul 10, 2008 17:32:19 | The High God is her new sugar daddy? All Im saying is that she really does get around when it comes to gods. Yeah, all the gods in Dragonlance remind me of anime characters, emotional and easily manipulated. It woudn't be hard for a kawaii lil' girl to steal their hearts. |
| #23lord_karsusJul 10, 2008 17:48:40 | -There is no new deity of magic. |
| #24merrikcaleJul 10, 2008 17:51:40 | When Mystra died who took her portfolio? You are all so silly. Lord Karsus is the new God of Magic |
| #25xhereticxJul 10, 2008 17:52:36 | You are all so silly. Lord Karsus is the new God of Magic Or so he wishes. ![]() |
| #26mister_mxyztplkJul 10, 2008 17:55:32 | You are all so silly. Lord Karsus is the new God of Magic Lord Karsus doesn't need a deific portfolio, he has all of them. See, Lord Karsus never really died. It was all a coverup for his ascension to overdeity. Ao was the only being withthe capacity to truly apreciate Lord Karsus's greatness. He willingly merged himself with LK in order to become a more perfect being. |
| #27lord_karsusJul 10, 2008 17:58:07 | You are all so silly. Lord Karsus is the new God of Magic -G-d, no. The deity of magic in the Faerûnian pantheon doesn't have a particularly good track record. Been there, done that, and I don't want any part of it. Ao was the only being withthe capacity to truly apreciate Lord Karsus's greatness. He willingly merged himself with LK in order to become a more perfect being. -Ao, and a couple of you people around here. |
| #28xhereticxJul 10, 2008 17:58:53 | Lord Karsus doesn't need a deific portfolio, he has all of them. See, Lord Karsus never really died. It was all a coverup for his ascension to overdeity. Ao was the only being withthe capacity to truly apreciate Lord Karsus's greatness. He willingly merged himself with LK in order to become a more perfect being. Yep, I can see LK's brainwashing campaign has paid off pretty well. Poor, poor souls... Yet it is my obligation as a Hand of Karsus to continue to propagate the rum-I mean undeniable fact that Karsus is the absolute master of reality that has always been and always will, amen.:D |
| #29merrikcaleJul 10, 2008 18:00:40 | -G-d, no. The deity of magic in the Faerûnian pantheon doesn't have a particularly good track record. Been there, done that, and I don't want any part of it. True enough. The deity of magic tends to bite the dust every edition or so. You would probably be a goner by the 5th edition. 6th at the latest |
| #30lord_karsusJul 10, 2008 18:01:15 | Yet it is my obligation as a Hand of Karsus to continue to propagate the rum-I mean undeniable fact that Karsus is the absolute master of reality that has always been and always will, amen.:D -Amen. |

| #32lord_karsusJul 10, 2008 18:01:53 | True enough. The deity of magic tends to bite the dust every edition or so. You would probably be a goner by the 5th edition. 6th at the latest -Me and Therise had this conversation. I think it was 6th Edition. |
| #33mister_mxyztplkJul 10, 2008 18:06:19 | -Amen. And yet even he in his greatness could not stop the arrival of 4e, suggesting that there is an even greater power than Karsus, perhaps one that is nearly as great as myself. |
| #34lord_karsusJul 10, 2008 18:21:04 | And yet even he in his greatness could not stop the arrival of 4e, suggesting that there is an even greater power than Karsus, perhaps one that is nearly as great as myself. -Maybe I wanted to allow it, because I knew Rin would like it? -Maybe I allowed the Spellplague to happen, so that everyone would come to realize how much they liked the Forgotten Realms? -Why does G-d allow evil? An age old question. |
| #35xhereticxJul 10, 2008 18:59:18 | -Maybe I wanted to allow it, because I knew Rin would like it? "God is a comedian, playing to an audience too afraid to laugh."-Voltaire. |
| #36BelorinJul 10, 2008 19:16:30 | Now the core rules state: Corellon is the patron of arcane magic and the fey. He seeded the world with arcane magic and planted the most ancient forests. Of course this does not have to be so in the Realms, it may be someone like Selune. So, if there is a patron of Arcane magic and Divine magic is provided by the respective Deities, would Shar be the patron of Shadow magic? Would there be a Primal magic patron? Questions, questions... Bel |
| #37lord_karsusJul 10, 2008 19:21:56 | -Being as that the Weave no longer exists, and yet magic still functions, there does not seem to be a necessity for a patron of specific magical...emphasizes, anymore, it seems. |
| #38merrikcaleJul 10, 2008 19:51:21 | --Why does G-d allow evil? An age old question. Its not such a difficult question when there are evil deities in your world |
| #39lord_karsusJul 10, 2008 21:04:18 | -Indeed. A world in which 'good' and 'evil' are tangible things makes such matters much easier. |
| #40rinonalyrna_fathomlinJul 10, 2008 22:10:51 | -Maybe I wanted to allow it, because I knew Rin would like it? Hee hee. ![]() |
| #41lord_karsusJul 11, 2008 21:30:24 | -Exactly the reason why I do things. ![]() |
