Who stole the Nether Scrolls from the Early Netherese vaults?

Feb 01, 2010 12:04:51 Anyone know which master thief stole a Nether Scroll from within the bowels of the Netherese capital Arcane Academy without making a single trace or sounding any magical alarms? Who ended up with that one?

In this case, AFAIK, it was a former gnome slave. Or an elf.

It seems that a small gnome thief called Rilmohx Sha'Quessir is the culprit (according to the Realms wiki).

There is no direct evidence for this but he must have been a masterful thief to break into Netherese vaults without leaving a trace. Afterwards he is said to have learned illusion magic just from glancing through the pages of the scroll. Its postulated he later became the origin for gnomes' innate illusionist powers they have in the current times.

Feb 21, 2010 5:57:03 I dont even remember how many Nether Scrolls there even was. And did they ever say who wrote them? I know it was one of the Creater Races, but which one?

Feb 21, 2010 7:43:44 In the old Sarruhk empire of Oreme several wise shaman-sorcerers started to pen down all the different magic traditions and techniques among the scaleless races around Oreme and to expand their own magic. Their sophomorous attitude later on led to the more active research of Batrachi and Aerie magic to complete the two full sets of 50 Nether Scrolls on varying magical topics. This must have been a period of over thousand years where an organisation such as the present day Coiled Cabal (yuan-ti abomination wizards) silently and secretly spread the lands of Toril in search for rumors of magic users and devices.

And yes, the Nether Scrolls where seperated several times after the fall of the Sarruhk empires. It led to the belief that the complete set consists of seven parts of which the Aryvandaar found several. Sometime after the fall of the Aryvandaar realm the Netherese stumble upon some of the scrolls and use them to rapidly expand their magical might. In responce to the rapid and unresponcable magic growth of the Netherese empire the elves commision to get the scrolls stolen. At first by the Gnome friend Rhilmox Sha'Quessir but later on several other attempts are made across Fearuns history.

The last known location is the Windsong Tower in the Aunaroch (yeah?) where the scrolls are protected by the strongest known magical wards available.

Oh and Windsong Tower is in Myth Drannor.

Feb 21, 2010 8:28:14 I would assume that he does, or at least some of the scrolls. It would also stand to reason that some copies have been made down through the centuries.

Feb 25, 2010 2:00:30 I think that the introduction to the Netheril Empire supliment depicts Tam bringing Larloch one or more of the scrolls, because he owes him favours or some such. Tam then convinces Larloch to tell him about Netheril. I think it was a Nether Scroll...
