#1 blackmasque Dec 19, 2008 12:10:44	I was looking at Lolth's information, and I saw one of her aliases is Megwandir. I've never heard this before and it begs the question: who or what is Megwandir. I've heard of Lloth as an alternative name for Lolth, and Araushnee. Never Megwandir.

Araushnee was her name in the Forgotten Realms before the Fall. Don't know why she had the different names but I am guessing they liked Araushnee better then Megwandir as it has more real world connection with Arachne, the Greek spider goddess.

Like I said it was mentioned in Dragon Magazine. The article is below copied from the Dragon issue. It doesn't specifically say it was Greyhawk but that was basically the default world back then. #7 goblin_pride Dec 19, 2008 18:44:57	It could also be the name of one of the gods of the Illythiri before the kinslayers wars that drove them into the underdark. It's possible that it was Lolth's husband before she seized complete control of the Drowish pantheon. Considering images associated with her usually involve black widow spiders, it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that it was a husband she consumed after mating. The similarity to Tolkien's language of the elves suggests that it may mean "Dark, piercing maiden" although that would properly be Maegwendur. So it could be an alternative name for Lolth, carried into the underdark by a branch of the Drow that called her by a different name.

#10 markustay_dup Dec 19, 2008 22:59:43	Strangely, Snow Elves have no canon appearances in FR lore, yet their gods do (one is enemies with Auril). Since those gods are ONLY worshipped by Snow Elves (AFAIK), and the gods have a presence on Toril.... Still... they could just know each other from the Great Wheel... but that would only make sense pre-3e. That was an interesting read none-the-less - Thanks for posting the link.

Auril's much more likely to eat Snow Elves. :P Besides, thats actually a good thing - the fact that they are NOT part of the core world further supports that the deities of the Snow Elves are indeed Faerûnian, which means there would have to be Snow Elves somewhere.

Who I actually used in Greyhawk game, a looooong time ago.... I also have to wonder why they didn't just use the name 'Jack Frost' for that character, instead of 'Snow Miser'

When the characters broke into his cottage, they were horrified to find he was keeping pixies in glass jars.. where they'd eventually asphyxiate... and turn blue. :D
