His pact weapon manifests as a length of blackened silver looking chain, and his Ki Focus implement(mc assassin) looks like a fine chain twined around his off hand. He still looks a lot like a halfling, but it's obvious if you look closely what he really is (no dead person bits, but it's still clear that he isn't a halfling or a human). His pact is specifically with Drasek Riven, once the second Chosen of Mask, Left Hand of The Shadowlord, now the God of Shadows. Basically, he's feeding power to Riven for the purpose of someday feeding into Mask, or helping Mask return. The story: Show Back before the spellplague, Finnan mac Llyr was a Maskarran theif and sometime political assassin living and working in Sembia. After the Sembian civil war, he became an adventurer, primarily fighting the Sharrans in Sembian. He became somewhat listless, refusing to accept that his god was dead, growing bitter and cold, where once he was quick to laugh and always ready with a good story. After barely avoiding the noose at least a dozen times, Finnan finally found himself on the gallows. Cursing Shar and the Shadovar till the end, he was hanged. Fortunately for him, luck (in the form of Drasek Riven) was with him that day, and post holding the rope broke, apperently rotted out with insect life. Using his natural agillity and speed, he managed to escape the bloodthirsty crowd and meet back up with his companions, only to be betrayed that night by his lover and another of his company. Swarmed by Shadovar agents, Finnan fell cursing and swearing to any god who would hear him his fealty in exchange for vengeance. Drasek Riven heard him. He found Finnan and took him to The Shadow Keep, there binding Finnan to a dread pact and preserving his life. Time passes strangely in the Shadowfell, and when Finnan found his way back to the world, having slipped under Riven's notice and escaped the Keep, over one hundred years had passed. Over the next 6 years, he found a powerful Fey being willing to make a pact with him, and help hide him from his true master. Thinking himself safe, he took up the adventurer's life once more, and sought to make of himself a better man than he had before, even converting to the worship of Brandobaris. Nothing good lasts forever. Riven eventually found Finnan, and informed him that the sickness he'd been suffering from was his "death catching up with him." The magic used to keep him alive had mostly faded, leaving him with mere months to live. Desperate, Finnan finally gave in and accepted the terms of the original agreement. Riven took him back to the Shadow Keep, and let him die. Then, at the moment of death, he created a magical bond between them and the Shadow Keep itself. Finnan's body burst into a small storm of flitting shadows, and reformed as a 5 foot tall revenent, recognizable as Finnan, but obviously new. From that point on, Riven began to call Finnan "mac Marwolaeth". When asked, he would only explain that it means "son of Death", but not why he had given Finnan this new name. The ordeal has reminded him of his devotion to the Shadowlord, and he is now in agreement with Riven that Mask's servants must work toward their lord's return. Neither of them believes for a moment that Mask is gone for good. |

Yeah. I should probably go through it again with an eye for this character. |
