It just blocked me again! So i guess it thinks im posting too much. Just a good excuse for me to see how many posts i can get in so i can then join the 2000 post club

theres a patern in ther some where about how many times you can post in a certain amount of time or something, they just dont what people dominating the dicusion or being rude, as have often happen in the past. Makes sense but they could offer a little more leway especially if theres a lot of back and forth, where no one is being rude, like we just had in your other WTF thread.

A while back they had some guy posting that 4e was s**T and the designer needs to be killed, over and over and over again, in every forum. I think these blocks were put up to stop something like that from happening again.

I see the point behind it, but i agree it is pretty stupid, especially with it being your thread! you should be able to post as many times as you want.

Quite right! I'll do my best to keep the spam FR related. As for the multiple posts i was just seeing how many it would let me do before i was blocked. That is related to the topic, although not very FR themed. I think its funny that they closed down Dookies other threds but not this one? go figure.

All too true, we have spam threads on the Realmslore boards, it is just about understandable on FR General, but here? The masking is a problem too... it being, you know, it being directly against section 2 of the Code of Conduct. It is a PG board that a private company runs. Freedom of speech does not legally apply here and as such they can and will prune or delete material they feel is breaking their rules. Not saying it will happen, just saying that you shouldn't be surprised if it does.

Now can we actually get back to some Realmslore?

#16

The_Silversword

Yes indeed more Realmslore! So who wants to start a topic on some serious Realmsian discussions? Whats everyone really into Realmswise? Favorite region? Drink?

Here check this out, i found it while surfin the web. Its a huge map. From the FR atlas.

Ah those were the days!

Anybody got the Interactive Atlas? Great Idea that. They should really update that for 4th edition. I guess i could do that my self with Campaighn Cartographer, but thats a lot of mapping right there. The Realms is freakin huge!

Now if only we still had Markus. There's the man to go to for a map. As for creating an updated Atlas, well, it isn't out of the realms (hoho) of possibility. Especially if you started tasking people with working on Regions rather that just trying to do the whole thing yourself. Of course it might be hampered by the way that a lot of the settlements in the Realms no longer have maps (even if the landmass itself does) and that, for now, there would be blank spots. Still, I like the idea of this!

Of course since the map already exists it might be possible to go the way of create a 4E wiki to fill in some of the gaps left in the FRCG.

Oh I know! Markus does some awesome maps! He has that 3e style down! If only he could be talked into doing some 4e maps in that style.

Ive done some work on mapin out cities using Campaighn Cartograpger's City Desisgner 3, but Im still gettin the hang of it. I spent hours and hours doing my version of 4e Saerloon, and I think it looks all right but its way too small, and i have no idea how to make it bigger so you can actually see some detail. Also Im not sure if I should use the newer realistic style or the standard atlas look. The standard look seems easier to work with, but the new version does look really sharp.

The wiki is an EXCELLENT idea, unfortunatly i am pretty clueless on such things, but that does sound very worthwhile.

I've been wanting to get my hands on CC3 for quite some time now to start detailing the 4e setting I'm working on, the problem is that I've found it to be a bit pricey, maybe it was the site I was looking at. Anyway, it seems like a great tool to work with, lengthy but well the time I would imagine.

Actually, I did come back for some Realmslore. Unfortunately, I got caught up with all the new crap and have been too busy bitching about it to get to what I came here for.

It takes 4x as long to post anything around here and I'm not gonna stick around all night to do it.  smiley-angry006.gif

CC3 is pretty awesome... CD3/DD3 are well worth it as well.  As to getting it bigger, if you mean just in terms of size to make Detail easier to see, that depends more on your screen and printer than the image itself, though I seem to recall they had a tiling function on the print menu somewhere.

If you mean adding to the map and such... if you're okay with reworking the walls or whatever, you could just scale the background/map border/grid/etcetera stuff without scaling the actual drawings up so you add in more space around the edges, depending of course on where you originate the scale from.  I'd recommend caution and definitely using snaps, because doing so can distinctly mess up your grid and previous work in terms of how it comes together with the new stuff.  It can definitely look 'off' if you don't.  But hey, that's what backup copies are for.

I have hand draft of a couple of maps, but nothing really set in detail, so basically I'd be working from the ground up. I assume there would be consant saves involved.

Yes it is pretty cool! Im still gettin the hang of it. Im almost thinkin you need a degree in CAD design to really use it. As for making it bigger, I mean as far as saving it as a bitmap. My thought was to do up some maps and post them on here as pics but theyre just too small. Is there a way to get the resolution up for bitmaps?

Thanks for your tips on printing that did work, so if nothing else i could just print it out and scan it in. But it is a pretty sharp program and worth the money.

Good ol Tymora!

So we got some good ideas goin. We really need to come together as a team and we could accomplish some pretty amazing things! Of course we dont have alot to work with, wotc is being pretty stingy with the Realmslore these days. We could just make stuff up ourselves but i guess homebrew stuff goes over in the running the Realms. I guess theres the novels, I still aint read any of the 4e ones. What are some good ones lore wise?

And Darth why dont you get to work putting borders on that map!

LOL!

Well yes that could be a problem then. It is a little problematic because alot of the areas arent even countrys, but just a loose confederation of City States and alot of the times the bourders are not very definate.

Theres a political map in the Interactive Atlas for 2e Realms, Im not sure about updating it for 4e. And im not sure how to even go about it. Just outline various areas?

And the 3.0/3.5 books never gave them any sort of borders (for that particular timeline) to start with... Don't know about the 2e stuff....

There is a reason FR maps don't have borders--there is nothing defined. Generally, you can figure a 10 to 20 mile soft spot where neither country completely holds sway.

Dookie, dookie, dookie. 2 Closed threads already.(Shakes head and wander away...)

Well, we knew it would happen sooner or later. Just figured I would get a quick jump on things with this return.

Thought so. As stated, there is a reason why FR never had borders. They are either disputed or considered buffer zones. More or less, "No Man" lands.
