Sep 28, 2012 1:32:55 I'm looking for suggestions from those of you with an easy familiarity of the groups, gangs, politics, culture, and commonfolk of Waterdeep.

What would be the likeliest repercussions, socially, economically, politcally or otherwise of a scenario where a powerful baddie were to escape from Undermountain through the entry well in the Yawning Portal, and wherein the Inn is destroyed before the baddie is put down by the city guard and resident wizards?

I'm of the mind that famous Inn's tend to get destroyed frequently in Faerun, but there is usually copious manpower, and a few wizards, around to rebuild them.

So you would dictate no long lasting effects? I suppose that's probably the right way to handle it.

As a thought excercise, who do you think would rebuild and take over the entry well if Durdan were killed during the scenario?

So its all in how you want it to play out, if you want to have it that Waterdeep quickly takes care of the problem and rebuilds the tavern then cool go with that, but it could just as easily be that maybe Waterdeep doesnt have the resources they once had and rebuilding the bar just isnt considered worth it.

If someone else was to take over operations it would most likely be some sort of constable of Waterdeep or something, chances are they might block off the entrance to Undermountain and not let any one in, not without a sizeable bribe anyways.

Right. I would likely do whatever seemed cool. I'd let the players 'leave their mark' (maybe allowing them to make modifications to the bar as it's rebuilt). It's just that bar building seems like a comparatively minor expense in this case.
